Worst Sporting Venues

Rhonda Rousey's Sports Bra

Kinda Sorta Old School
You can just make a list or just your number 1, but what is the worst sporting venue? Just explain why it's so bad.

Mine unfortunatly hits close to home, it's the Edward Jones Dome. Now before I took my trip to Cleveland this past week I knew it sucked as a stadium, but I had no idea how bad we actually have it here in St. Louis. I came to this conclusion after stopping in Indianapolis at the Lucas Oil Stadium and driving by the Cleveland Browns Stadium. These places are cathedrals, where as the Jones Dome is like one of those churches that's held in a shed-like structure. There is nothing of note in the Jones Dome to help with the look from the outside, whether that has to do with the team's lack of history or just lack of caring I won't know. Parking is non existant and there is nowhere to tailgate. This place just sucks. The worst part is, this place is only 15 years old.

Tropicana Field

This place is shit. I went there last year for a White Sox vs. Rays game and it is horrible. The lower level has one main hallway to get in and out, and getting out sucks ass with all 10,000 people clamoring to get out. But there is more, as it shouldn't just be held to the stadium or team itself.

St. Petersburg. Not one of the more baseball prevalent populations in the country. You look at the Rays right now, they had the chance to clinch on Monday, and there were about 12,500 fans in attendance. That is fucking pathetic. David Price called them out and even had to apologize for it. St. Pete is not a good place for a stadium, and the Rays aren't getting much support when a decent portion of the crowd is cheering for the visitors.

The Rays are not in the best situation in Tropicana Field. You look at a crappy stadium in an area where you get no support, it isn't a good sign, and they have had some damn good teams the past 3 years, including going to the World Series. It sucks to see a good team like that in a "couldn't care less" type area that is St. Pete.

Baseball and football are the only two sports that seem to have distinguishable qualities like them. Basketball and Hockey, for the most part, all look alike. So, that easily throws out those venues quickly.

My choice is a baseball venue, and is known to most as that piece of shit Tropicana Field. The turf grounding instead of grass irks me, and it just doesn't look like the best place to see a baseball game in person or on TV. The catwalk at the top has also become a factor before, and probably will again. I don't think it's out of the question to say that this stadium helps contribute as to why nobody shows up to Rays games. Until they move out of that stadium, aside from playoff series and series with those types of implications, they won't draw great crowds.

The one the other Florida team plays in currently right now is pretty shitty as well, but at least they're moving out of it soon.

EDIT: Oh CH just beat me to the punch.

This is easy. Its been called one of the worst venues in the country. The team that plays there has been looking to have it renovated for years now. That team is the Islanders and that venue is Nassau Coliseum.

I've been to the Coliseum numerous times, whether its an Islanders game or some other event, and its just bad. At first, I didnt think it was that bad, but now that I have seen other arenas, it doesnt compare. Its main problem is that it is old and outdated, and while that may not sound like a real problem, it is. My biggest complaint is the seating. The seats are unbelievably low to the ground. It honestly feels like you're sitting on the floor. I really hope it gets renovated soon, because it needs it pretty bad.

The Metrodome hands down has gotta be one of the worst stadiums out there. It's severely outdated, it's a bit cramped, difficult to navigate, and the seats suck. Especially now seeing the Twins play in arguably the best baseball stadium, the Metrodome is even worse in comparison. It was made to be an all in one stadium, but really baseball wasn't that great there because of the odd bounces the ball would take. Granted that played into the Twins' favor but look how outstanding they're doing this year with legit grass.

As far as football games go, well I can't speak from personal experience from that yet (though hopefully this year I will partake), but I will say that the Dome does give the Vikes a huge home field advantage, because it gets extremely loud in there. So there are some benefits to it from a football stand point, but otherwise it's a stadium that's outlived it's usefulness. My biggest worry is if the Vikes do get a new stadium they'll take acoustics into effect much like Seattle did and create a stadium where the crowd can still be a factor.
