Willem Defoe: one of the most underated actors ever?

I'm watching The Boondock Saints and Defoe is gold in this movie. I've only ever seen him in supporting roles and I've never seen him as the big name in a movie or on any best actor lists (not just the official ones) and thats a damn shame

He's done some very good movies. He did a great job in Boondock Saints. Also in Spiderman, the scene where he talks to the Goblin in the mirror is amazing. Especially since it only took him that one take and that's it. But like any actor he's made his poor choices. I'll leave you with this:

Jake if we're talking about Ugly just look at Sly Stallone. Not only does he look like someone hit him repeatedly in the face with a frying pan it's damn near impossible to understand him and he was Rocky and Rambo.

Yeah, gotta take Milenko's side there. Stallone hit a point where he sorta became a shit actor. You can barely understand his speech, he really doesn't look good, he looks as old as his mother and his movies just aren't what they used to be.

Defoe on the other hand, he may not be great looking, but he's been in some brilliant films. When he was The Green Goblin in Spiderman, he had the voice which made him evil. It's his voice that does it for me. He could play ANY villain with that voice.
