Will We ever witness another win like Chris Benoit's?

Tha Wolfpac

Hey Yo...
Hey Yo!
I went throughall my old Wrestlemania DVD's the other day and i came across Wrestlemania 20 now im sure we all remember how magical and awesome of a Wrestlemania it was. Now onto my thread, during this night we saw two amazing world title matches Eddie Guerrero's and Chris Benoit's. Now for me Chris Benoit's was way more amazing and it just had that awesome feel to it and you have that weird happiness feeling inside and could sense how happy this guy was of what he finally achieved and friggen deserved not only did he win in the main event of Wrestlemania 20 against Triple H and Shawn Michaels but he made friggen Triple H tapout, clean, no bullshit.
Now i know that crap that haunts Benoit's legacy this days but will we ever witness a win as magical and heartfelt as Chris Benoit's again or even as big?

Did you watch that mania? Eddie Guerrero was already wwe champion he didn't win the title from Angle. I would say Jeff Hardy's first major title win at Armageddon two years ago. It was his first major title and everyone in the arena exploded as he got the three count. I remember seeing grown men jumping up down as if they were kids watching their favorite wrestler win a title. That had alot of emotion due to all of what Jeff had overcame in his life he had confetti and he had a moment with his brother.

Yeah of course we'll see something like that again because that's a large part of what wrestling is about, the good guy finally getting what he's worked hard for, be it a title, respect or revenge. Probably only Jeff hardys win at Armageddon comes close but they can't do it all the time as over saturating stories dillutes the emotion and believability in it. The wwe are guilty of overusing many things to the point of them meaning almost nothing but the last thing the will do is over use the 'childhood dream of winning the title and headlining wrestlemania' storyline. Give it a couple of years, maybe for Morrison, Kofi or the one I'd like to see, Christian (ECW title really count?).

I can think of one before the Jeff Hardy win, Rob Van Dam at One Night Stand 2006, the fans went ape shite for that one as their boy, RVD, finally had a World Title and he'd won it in an arena used by the Original ECW. That, to me, was the final embers of the late 90s boom dying out and, personally, unless it's a Matt Hardy or a Christian, it'll take someone uber special to have that innate bond with the fans again.

I watched this match not that long ago and was thinking something similar. It's not the best WrestleMania match ever, but I was thinking it's quite sad that this match is going to get lost over time.

What made Benoit's win so great for me was that in WCW he didn't have as big a profile due to what the nwo were doing etc, and he was one of those choice wrestler's that seemed to make others up their game when they tagged or fought him. So for someone who had so much experience and expertise but had been held back in WCW, for the match to go the way it did showed a lot of faith from the WWE higher-ups.

While I like Jeff Hardy, I don't necessarily buy into all that 'he overcame his demons' crap because at the end of the day he always seemed to have a helping hand in his demons' manifestation, through drugs or just letting people down.

I think we will see another Benoit type victory, but not for a few years as Wrestling as a whole seems to be in a state of flux at the moment. Once the dust settles and we get a clear idea where we think the business is going, that would be an ideal time for another Benoit type victory I feel.

So far, everyones said what i was gunna say. The first thing i thought of was Jeff Hardy at Armageddon because i followed him the whole chase that year and i saw many of his old matches and it was so awesome to see him win the title. and i've actually called that build to his title, the jeff hardy build, coz it just seemed like it was always out of his reach and then as the underdog, he wins the title.

Sure we will, there are plenty of people who've yet to reach the top of the mountain in WWE and have at least a decade of WWE ring time under their belt.

Christian would probably be the next person people would be really happy to see win but to achieve this feeling nowadays he'd have to just totally annihilate Cena in the ring like RVD did. He doesn't use a submission finisher and I honestly would have a hard time buying him beating super cena clean so perhaps we need to move on to my alternate pick.

Kane, his 1 day reign doesn't count in my eyes. Now he's probably more unlikely but you'd get the same reaction and if he had to go through Cena there would be no doubt that he's physically capable of getting the job done

benoit's win was very special. that is definitely the right word for it. and a clean submission win over triple h at the main event of mania. not many guys can say that.

WWE has had some good ones in the past like this...

HBK at mania 12 in the iron man match. that was a boyhood dream realized and a very special moment, from the gimmick match, to HBK's entrance to the sudden death.

Mankind on raw for his first title reign. "foley put my butt in this seat" signs say it all. this was super special and on cable television. i didn't even have to pay to see it (i guess i had a cable bill, but you get what i mean) but man i'll never forget that night!

then you have benoit. that was huge.

after benoit, you don't have it as often, but what about rey mysterio at mania, the underdog fighting for eddie's honor and the world title? that was pretty special. maybe not benoit special, but pretty big. and rey is a long-time veteran also, starting at age 15 and working his way to the top.

jeff hardy has been well documented already and is another good example.

what about the recent retirement matches with HBK and flair and HBK and undertaker? both of those were special and had their own unique send-offs on the following raw. maybe those would be the only moments close to "benoit special" in recent memory.

but to answer your question, yes, there will be more moments like that. but they can't happen every month or year or maybe not even twice in every five or ten years. if it's done too much, it takes away from that specialness.

I think that there have been a number of heartfelt title wins. Even though he was a heel the first Edge Title win was emotional because you could see how much it meant to him to be elevated to that status. The same holds true for the Jeff Hardy and C.M. Punk wins.

ummm has everyone forgot about rey mysterio? winning his first world title just a few months after his best friend pass way. the royal rumble win was emotional enough but when he hit the 619 on randy orton and then pinned orton they entire arena exploded.

If Christian or Matt Hardy ever win the big one. It will definitely be as or more emotional than that was. RVD winning at one night stand was very close to that moment.

On a side note I was a huge Benoit fan at the time and I loved that moment, but know I can't look back and enjoy that moment.

I would say Jeff Hardy winning at Armageddon was a HUGE one. That had the biggest build and you can't deny you were happy for him whether you were a fan or his or not, to see everyone in the stadium on their feet applauding him and celebrating with him. It was a monumental moment.

Another moment, I know, was Rey Mysterio, at WM 22. Right after Eddie's death. Him celebrating on the ramp with Vickie and Chavo. That was truly emotional. I don't know if you'd count this, but Christian winning ECW gold, I think that can count (and hopefully he would win that WWE or WHC gold soon.) and that was pretty emotional to see him come back and win something.

Another one that stood out to me, was Unforgiven 2006 it was Trish vs Lita in Trish's retirement match in Canada. She retired winning the Women's belt. That was pretty emotional thing to watch. She was retiring in her home country after winning the belt.

I don't know if anyone else felt it, but, Monday night. Rob Van Dam. He wrestled 4 matches in under 24 hours. Two of which were steel cage matches. He won each one of them and capped it off by winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. And this time, no Edge to Spear his opponent through a table. It was amazing to me. After being out of WWE for 2 years, he came back stronger than ever and gave the best 24 hours he could. Hell, did you see how much mic time he got? More in one night than he did in his entire WWE stint. It was a very refreshing moment. You just couldn't see it coming.
