Hi :-) This is my first thread so sorry if it lacks enough info.

Is it just me thats realised there have been no PPVs in Alaska? There have been PPVs in Britain and Canada but none in one of the American States? Can someone inform me if theres a Law against Wrestling in Alaska or if its just not a viable place to hold a PPV? Or if ive just missed that theres been one there already?

There might be some law against it but perhaps more about drug testing, etc. since there was a law like that for quite some time in the state of Oregon.

As for a PPV in Alaska, I doubt there has ever been any show in that state (if there has I'm sure someone will point it out). But you figure perhaps a lack of interest and probably the travel issue it isn't the best bang for the buck when it comes to a profit I would guess.

Profit. Plain and simple. Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of Alaskan fans. But to fill a PPV arena, I don't think it could be possible. And unless it was Wrestlemania, you wouldn't get too many people willing to travel there.

LOL, Alaska!!! Wait a minute are you really serious????

I'm just playing(In my Abraham Washington voice). All jokes aside they wouldn't make money doing a ppv there. I'm from Mississippi and I know for a fact they wouldn't make money here. Then there's a question of facilities, could they meet the standards of and full WWE PPV production

Alaska resident here. The biggest arena we have only holds up to 8,700 people. Too small to hold a WWE PPV. Perfect for a TNA PPV though. And it's only cold from October to late March.

Hawaii would cause timezone issues. That would be the main reason for that state. Now I don't follow sports in Alaska or anything, but I do know they have a college hockey team, and the Michigan and Michigan State hockey teams do go to Alaska for games.

In Alaska I doubt it would be a major timezone issue, cause I think its similar to the west coast timezone.

Did some research lol

Now as for indoor stadiums in Alaska they have Sullivan Arena, in Anchorage. A city which has over 290,000 people living there so more there are more then enough people to fill the stadium, Sullivan Arena holds 8,700 for basketball, so for wrestling it would be around 9,000 which is enough for a Raw or even a PPV event. Travel wouldn't be very hard. They also have outdoor football stadium & baseball stadium but there not very big, could be a good host for a Summerslam event. Or something in July I'm guessing. Doubt it ever happens, but would be cool.

Heres some images of the Sullivan Arena:

The above arena looks like your local hockey arena for your local high school. No offense but...DA FCK YOU SMOKIN?
As previously stated there is NO MONEY in Alaska in regards to holding a PPV. Also, the location is a big deal. It'd not be difficult for the wrestlers to fly in, but to truck the ring and all the other equipment up there isn't exactly viable.
Do Alaska WWE fans deserve a house show? Absolutely agree on that. Maybe the PPV buys from ALaska just suck so it's not on top of WWE's "To Visit" list.

The same reason theres no PPV's in BF Egypt.
holding an event over 1000 miles out of the way to a smaller audience doesn't increase profits.
Transporting performers, equipment, and fans farther, and in some cases more treacherously, and gain no profit.
I hate to say this, but if every Alaskan fan quit watching, Vince wouldn't notice, so they aren't worth the logistical issues of holding a large scale event up there.
and why would Vince spend all that time/money xporting equipment for 9000, when he could hold it down the road for 20k people?

The major reason is obviously due to the fact that there is not enough money in it. Sure they could fill a stadium or arena but I doubt there are any in Alaska that are very big. Atleast they still do house shows in places like Anchorage so those in Alaska can still get some WWE, it is a shame that folks living there cant see one live without traveling some distance.

The WWE will hold "Its A Cold Day IN Hell" PPV in Alaska after the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, NCAA Final 4, and the NBA Finals have been hosted by Alaska. But the rumors are that TNA may host a PPV name "Frost Fights" and Dixie Carter will Tweet her big surprise, the return of Daffney as Sarah Palin vs Winter for the Alaskan Championship. Basically TNA will move their operation to Alaska before WWE even host a house show there. The reason being $$$$$$$$$$$$.

The city of Chicago has almost 3 million people in it. The suburbs and metro area surrounding Chicago add another 6 million to that. This is why Chicago is one of the most visited cities in the world for the WWE. The entire state of Alaska, keeping in mind it's the largest state and people are spread across it, has only 700,000 people in it. Also, I believe the largest arena in Alaska can only hold about 7,000 people in it. Selling out an event in one of the biggest wrestling scenes in the country isn't an issue, but selling tickets in Alaska, even in a small arena, would be a really difficult task. They'd also have to put Raw in it the next night and the travel issues it would cause for the Smackdown roster...it's just not worth it.

The better question is, why has there never been a WrestleMania in Wembley Stadium. A Mania in England in THAT stadium would easily break the attendance record. 100,000 easy.

It's the population and size of Alaska. I'm not sure of the population of Alaska but I know it's someware around 750k, maybe more maybe less. That population has a 1.03/sq mi population density. It is spread apart small islands, and a giant state. It's huge with basically little people.

Two of the largest citys in Alaska, Juneau and Anchorage are seperated by what google maps says 850 miles. In travel time that is allmost twenty hours. For thoes who know my brother made it from Huston, Texas to Ft. wayne indiana in 23 hours a few years ago. I highly doubt that people in Juneau would make that pilgramage to Anchorage to see a WWE live event. Plane tickets are terribly priced

What if you want to have a gimmick match? The elimination chamber is 10 tons, you cant truck that in by a plane. The steel cage is also probably to heavy to ship in by the same method. All the things that you need to ship in for the show, would have to drive over 2000 miles to get into The biggest city in Alaska from Seattle washington. Or you can boat it, Anchorage has a port. But how much money and how much time would it take a freight ship to get to Anchorage. I can't estimate that.

With a PPV being held in england (im english) theres quite a big time zone issue. But i would love a PPV But with less stereotypes. Like a red bus *facepalm*

....because it's Alaska?

I live in Lexington, Kentucky which is a fairly decent sized city of about 300,000 people. That's nearly half of the amount of people that live in all of Alaska. Know how many highways there are in Alaska? One. No one can drive there because it's way too cold. No one is going to go to Alaska to see a show and there probably aren't enough people there to set one up. It's too far away and too cold to make it work, period.

Did you know University of Alaska-Anchorage hosted an NCAA Frozen Four a few years ago?

Did you also know that, with all of the (apparent) possible places they could have held it in Alaska (it's not that cold in early April, is it?), they held it in Anaheim?

How often have they held house shows in Alaska? (Size isn't that big of a problem with non-televised house shows - I remember my high school hosting one even though it only fits 3000 for wrestling.) I would think getting people and materials (don't they have to get, for example, the wrestling ring in by truck?) into and out of any reasonably large city in Alaska would be a logistical nightmare.

Well, as some people have done research and pointed out.....yes, there is a sufficient arena where in my opinion they could at least stage a Friday Night Smackdown. If they can have a Smackdown in Kelowna BC (and literally just call it British Columbia Canada on TV) as well as Spokane Washington (trust me that arena is tiny) then there is no reason they couldn't do it in Alaska. Maybe not a PPV, but Smackdown for sure.

And just to point out as well, the top Google searches turn out results for WWE house shows in Anchorage in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009, as well as mentions of house shows in 1989 and 1990. Hell, I remember Bret Hart said on Off The Record once that one of the best matches of his career was against Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig in Anchorage. (That is the Daddy of Michael McGillicutty, for all you new little marks)

Nobody lives in Alaska, and nobody except psychopaths hiding out or mountain men want to go to Alaska. Beyond those sweeping generalizations I'm sure the hazard of ice and shit, the logistics, etc combined with the lack of money make it unfavorable.

Speaking of the non-continous (contigious?) United States, what about Hawaii? I can see a Raw or Smackdown, maybe even a smaller PPV using Hawaii as a drawing point to go to and to watch. Like an outdoorsy type of show?

Simply put, Alaska probably does not have enough people for WWE to make much of a profit. I do not like it any more than you do but it is true. I am from Vermont and i would love to see WWE come there but they wont and as far as i know they probably never have in the past.

Local high school? Jesus you Americans are lucky with your stadiums haha.

I'm British so wouldn't know but I'm sure it's a case of supply and demand.

Another problem is that there are no cities to hold multiple outside one or two cities in Alaska. Normally when WWE does shows they also tour around the Area and do follow up or proceeding house shows, PPV events, and other televised events.

Example if a show was done in Indianapolis, IN normally (to save on costs) shows will be done in Ohio and Illinois as well.

Now if Alaska was to hold WWE PPV and shows I can see the following go down:
They need to host probably 4 to 6 events in Alaska possibly Achorage and Fairbanks. These cities largest venue holds around 6500 people. One city will host a PPV and both will host RAW and Smackdown! Super shows. Meanwhile house shows will be done in smaller citites.

After their tour in Alaska chances are the next area which WWE will hold events will be in Western Canada/United States area such as Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle, or Portalnd.

Truth to be told I like this Idea, its one example the WWE can expand to other markets while still being in the United States. Question is is there a market in Alaska?

Most high schools aren't like that, but some are. State High School championships games are played in arenas like that, often bigger and more modern sometimes. It definately doesn't look like a PPV arena. My college's stadium was built in 2009 and seats 10,000, in a city of about 100,000. We still only get house shows. However, judging by the fact that we've given WWE sellouts at their 2 house shows, I'm hoping for TV.

Why don't you just take a vacation down here somewhere and go to a show? I know it's probably really expensive but save up for it. It's what I'm doing with Mania. I plan to go to one before I die so I'm going to save up.
