Why doesn't TNA break WWE's balls?

Back in the 90s, WWF took a lot of shots at WCW and WCW took shots back at WWF. Some of these were the skits involving "The Huckster" and "The Nacho Man," Fake Diesel (Kane) and Razor Ramon, The Gillberg character, and Jim Cornette shoots on WCW guys. You even had DX show up at a WCW event.

So my question is why aren't TNA doing any of these things? Are they not hungry enough? I know that The New Age Outlaws tried to recreate some of that when they were in TNA, but that was at a different time and wasn't done well.

Can't TNA come up with interesting, confrontational content just like that? Whether it be a backstage skit or a character. Each week you could dress Eric Young up like a different WWE character. One week he can come out as John Cena(Eric Cena) and to add to the laughs, Orlando Jordan could play R Truth(Orlando Truth.) This would be pushing it but you could have Jordan come on to him and be like "All this time, I just wanted to see your lil jimmy" and have Eric "Cena" be like "You can see my jimmy anytime you want" as they run off to find a hotel. Heh. Something corny along those lines. But crack jokes on the characters and make fun of the stuff they do.

If TNA cracked jokes on Cena, Orton, Miz, Del Rio etc that shit would go viral (if done well) and it could add more interest to TNA and show people what they're made of. What does TNA have to lose anyway?

They already have taken many shots at WWE since Hogan/Bish showed up, but they seemed to have stop and the shots they took weren't that strong to begin with. They don't have to go over board with it, but it'd be funny as hell to see them take shots at Cena/Orton especially. I think Eric Young could do a good job pulling off Cena and he could walk around in a huge t-shirt with denim shorts and a hat on flashing his hand infront of his face while he proclaims "hustle ... loyalty ... respect."
He's never getting to the WWE anyway so he has nothing to worry about.

WWE is a sitting target right now and TNA should be capitalizing a lot more then they currently are. There's a lot of stuff that's been over in the past that I haven't been seeing much in TNA (such as gimmick matches.) It almost seems like TNA is trying to follow some of the same rules as WWE at times aside from cursing.

If they want to shock people. How about having a man powerbomb Mickie James or Velvet Sky through a table? That's the type of stuff that peaks kids interest. Anyway, I don't know how effective these things would be and I know TNA is always trying new ideas, but I think when you take personal shots at guys like Cena/Orton you'll get a reaction, good or bad. If you saw EY (or whoever) come out and impersonate Cena one week and he was advertised for the next week, people would want to see what was going to happen. Though I'm not sure if that type of stuff would warrant a cease and desist - how did the WWE get away with it the first time?

I just want to see this rivalry heat up again and hope that it benefits TNA. So yeah, I'd like to see TNA taking (creative) shots at WWE again. Your thoughts?

It doesn't have to affect WWE, it just has to make TNA more attractive to a WWE viewer that doesn't watch TNA. If someone in TNA said this week we're going to a WWE show to confront them or we're calling out a WWE superstar or claim to have signed a WWE superstar(hypothetically speaking) it would be newsworthy and people would get interested. There are many different ways TNA can take shots at WWE and history is a proven indicator that this works. DX showing up at a WCW show was a game changer.

When WWE went from WWF too WWE, there slogan was "Get The F OUT." TNA could do something addressing how it's not a PG show (Get The PG Out) or something along those lines. Something like "Where The Big Boys Play(WCW slogan)" to get across the message that your not a PG show like your competition.

RVD commercial for TNA: "Cross The F'n Line"
Mr Anderson commercial: "Impact Wrestling, where the Assholes Play"
Kurt Angle: "Oh it's Mature, It's DAMN Mature"
Hulk Hogan: "This ain't PG, brother"
Ric Flair: "...(thrusts his pelvis) WOOOOOO!!!"
Jeff Jarrett: "TNA stands for MA(Mature) Just like Double J" (kisses Karen transvestite Angle)
The Pope: I'm sure he could manage something indecent.
Samoa Joe: "Parental Guidance... is ... Adviced." or some other corny sounding shit Joe would say.

Anyway, I know TNA doesn't want to be rated MA.
Lol, btw, when I was watching the UFC prelims last saturday the rating MA (Mature) came up and under it it said S. It was rated Mature for Sex. I was like :wtf:

And RVD's "Cross The F'n Line" is the most logical. I'd just like to see more of that. Not really a fan of this wrestling matters campaign because I feel they're going in more of a direction like ROH with that. I like ODB, but I think TNA should focus more on prettying up their divas and trying to show off as much as them as possible. We need more Miss Tessmacher's and less Jacqueline's. Anyway, as for wrestling matters, it just seems like they're giving a mixed message.

You DON'T think TNA takes enough shots? Really? I always felt that it was one thing they did too much as held them back somewhat.

What about the Wrestling Matters' campaign. That's an obvious reaction to the WWE's prohibiting the use of the term professional wrestler.

Last year with the EV2.0 invasion. The whole gig was that the WWECW sucked. At one point a fan said 'cos Vince sucks' and Tommy Dreamer said 'exactly'.

Kazarian last year mentioned 'and we're not a bunch of angry rookies' talking about Fortune, an obvious jab at The Nexus.

For me I've always thought that establishing themselves was the first step. They've tried shots a lot and it barely brings them any attention at all. And you can see that it's not going to make a difference because WWE doesn't ever comment them back, they aren't on the same level right now. It's like a kid picking on a big fat guy for stealing his place in the queue, the big guy doesn't care less and what harm is he going to do realistically?

I'm all for it but not right now. Right now TNA needs to concentrate on ITSELF. When it appears on the E's radar then start making a name for yourself. Only thing which will make me change my mind is legitimate complaints. They were onto a good thing with 'Wrestling Matters' but they've overblown it a little and not really having any more TV time focused on wrestling de-established that whole ethos' credibility.

So maybe one day but not right now.

Sorry, but what do you think the whole "wrestling matters" shitstorm is about? It's a shot at WWE.

No, as I mentioned ... "They already have taken many shots at WWE since Hogan/Bish showed up, but they seemed to have stopped and the shots they took weren't that strong to begin with."

And at times they're shots may have backfired, the same way Tony Shiavone announcing Mick Foley as new WWF Champion did. I've wanted to make a thread on how "the "IWC matters" to TNA and the whole Wrestling Matters campaign is proof of that. Eric Bischoff even addressing the IWC should be proof enough that he's working the internet and paying close attention to what they say. TNA caters heavily to the IWC.

But anyway, the wrestling matters campaign IS an obvious reaction to the WWE as they are trying to capitalize on WWE distancing themselves from wrestling, I just don't know if they went in the best direction with it. I really could give a shit less about why wrestling matters to these guys. I felt the same way about other stuff TNA tries to drill in your head like MCMG or Beer Money are the best tag team in the world and AJ Styles and Kurt Angle are the best wrestler's in the world. The best wrestler in TNA right now, should be Mr. Anderson. I wish someone would come up with "Why kayfabe matters." I mean if someone like Batista were in TNA and he said "I'm the best wrestler in the world," he'd get boo'd out of the arena. Wrestler has to stop meaning how good you are as an in ring performer in the actual world of wrestling, leave the IWC and the out of character convos for discussion on who the best in ring performers are.

Right now, Mr Anderson is the Champ and Sting is the #1 contender, so they should be considered (on the show) as the best wrestlers.

As for TNA's shots, they have stopped doing them as much and I said they shouldn't go over board. What I'd really like to see his personal shots on Cena and Orton, or maybe a look into a WWE staff meeting (portraying HHH as a doofus, Stephanie as an idiot or something creative but insulting.) TNA has made a ton of shots, most of which were last year, but as blatant as they were, they were still subtle. Taz mentioning an MMA fighter and a Deadman/Badass, Mr Anderson mimicing Triple H's voice and all the other stuff. But none of it was slapstick or extremely confrontational.

Also, I am not looking for a response from WWE as they could hit back hard if they wanted. WWE also takes shots and especially in interviews. WWE just mentioned Hogan in a negative light twice the past two weeks. And if they do hit back hard, then that's an even better acknowledgement from WWE.

Anyway, I understand how people would be displeased with the redundant snide remarks TNA has made on WWE, which why I have to emphasize that I think they could come up with stuff more creative and entertaining.

I don't want them to come out and say Cena sucks. I want them to show why Cena sucks. If you could do a skit where you had a Vince impersonator and you add a WWE sponsor calling in asking Vince to fire so and so for saying "booger" "butt" ...some harmless word. I'm not the writer, but just something that comes off funny. Like Gillberg ... Gillberg was funny.

TNA needs to stop with the subtle/snide inside jokish comments and try to be more creative is what I meant. Then again, maybe they don't need to resort to this. I just think some fans like that rivalry aspect and impersonations have usually been entertaining in Professional wrestling.

Aside from this idea, I think TNA is going in an awesome direction and I was just making a suggestion. I can't wait for them to get on the road every other week, really hope it happens.

Do you find it coincidental that WWE decides to stop going by World Wrestling Entertainment in favor of just WWE, effectively dropping wrestling from it's name and right after TNA Changes TNA Impact to Impact Wrestling?

While I am sure that TNA is pushing the wrestling name harder as a way to differentiate themselves from WWE in the wake of WWE's name change and rebranding, the reality is the Impact name change had been going on for many, many, many months internally. It's not a case of TNA reacting to what WWE decided to do. Pwinsider

Sorry, but what do you think the whole "wrestling matters" shitstorm is about? It's a shot at WWE.

I never said it wasn't. It's TNA screaming "Hey IWC, LOVE US MORE THEN WWE." Wrestling Matters to me means "IWC Matters" in my opinion, since we're the only ones who knows that "wrestling" is suppose to be a banned term in WWE.

The shots I'm talking about are comedic ones. I think "Wrestling Matters" is funny being as how I think, as bland as it is, WWE still puts on a traditional wrestling show. The problem is that it lacks any interesting storylines, booking, or character development which TNA seems to care more about.

Because most of them may be looking to Vince for a job some day (even Flair and Hogan).

Vince doesn't forget and he isn't going to take humiliation lightly.
