Why Do People Hate Michael Cole?

It's mostly due to his constant burial of talent, I'd think. Obviously, you want your play-by-play guy to be calling the action, not doing what Cole does. That's usually the forte of the color commentator, who acts as a foil to the play-by-play guy. It's not bringing anything to the booth when Cole acts as a color commentator except weeping and the gnashing of teeth, because Lawler sure as hell can't do play-by-play.

The problem with Michael Cole is that he distracts from a given match instead of enhancing it, which is the primary duty of a commentator, especially a play-by-play guy, which Cole is supposed to be.

However, he has reigned his antics in a bit. He's still mostly a detriment to the show, but he is a bit better. None the less, I don't want him anywhere near Rock vs. Cena at Mania. That is a huge match and it deserves the experience and big match delivery style of Jim Ross.

Finally regarding Cole, I think he would be excellent as a heel manager. When he plays it straight he's a pretty good play-by-play, but I think his true calling is a heel management role.

The big thing about Cole is he is not truly building the heels the way Hennan or Ventura did. He does the opposite by having nothing positive to say about the faces. He is also the lead announcer, not the supporting and that much negativity creates negative emotional reaction to the broadcast. Even when Hennan or Ventura would go on a negative rant, (Ventura would rant on Hogan) the lead announcer would be able to move the topic to something else or focus the action back in the ring on a neutral tone...Broadcasting 101 needs to have a lead announcer be neutral to both parties.

the reason i cant stand cole is because he is just annoying. his voice and the way he delivers just sucks. its like a comedian with great jokes but cant deliver right, the jokes become unfunny and cole does not know how to deliver and he will never be a good heel character like jerry or bobby could be. it just doesnt work at all for me and obviously not for a lot of people. cole doesnt know how to deliver well enough for a great majority of people to like him

I loved Cole's on NXT made it more funnier. However on RAW/SD he can be annoying and trying to hard to act a heel when it's not always needed

I guess I'm one of those people who don't watch wrestling to see the announcers. If I could I would run over Michael Cole's head with an M1A2 Abrams Tank. When I tune in to wrestling, I don't tune in to see some jackass who doesn't even belong behind an announcers table take up valuable time in the ring, I don't care what his opinions are, or what his feuds are. I don't give a rats ass about King, or Booker T either. If you are hired to be an announcer, then be an announcer, I don't want to see your fat ass (king) in some 50 year old spandex pretending you can wrestle.

It's not Cole, it's Lawler. Cole is overbearing, but Lawler's been phoning it in for years. Either find someone that's going to argue back with Cole, or get rid of them both.

I love Michael Cole. I think anyone that doesn't is taking WWE a little too seriously. I find him absolutely hilarious and extremely entertaining, and all of my friends agree.

King on the other hand is TERRIBLE. Awful, awful, awful. Boring. Bland. He didn't used to be like this, I don't know what happened. Also a real asshole in real life. He was a complete dick to me and my buddy when we met him (Miz and Evan Bourne who were at the table with him were actually real cool)

I absolutely despite Michael Cole - but that's a good thing.

He is one of the greatest heels in the WWE right now, and there isn't really anyone you could hate more than that man. But - I think that his role as a play-by-play commentator are over. I believe for him to continue a successful career in WWE, that he must take a much more authoritative role on either Raw or Smackdown.

I think that Raw would be a great place for Cole to plant himself. John Lauranitis has a shelf life, which is likely to expire just after Wrestlemania 28. If there were to be (yet another) search for a GM, this would be a great place for Cole to jump in. This keeps him from ruining every match that takes place, but still give him the chance to mess with all of the superstars.

I really could see him being the next Eric Bischoff.

i believe that most people on these forums hate Cole is because he is the exact opposite of what Jerry Lawler was during the Attitude Era. People use to hate lawler during the attitude era but it was a lovable kind of hate. In that even though we hated him we still laughed at his insults of some wrestlers, and also the fact that lawler wasnt as black and white as cole is. There was a shade of grey to his character (like most characters during the attitude era). Cole is the exact opposite in that he absolutely is just someone who we cant laugh with but more probably laugh/despise at. Lawler wasnt as argumentitive as cole during the attitude era, it felt like there was a chemistry between J.R and King. Cole doesnt seem to have it with anyone. Maybe a bit with Josh Mathews.

I prefer the Michael Cole during the Ruthless Aggression Era. He seemed to have the passion and the skill to keep up with a broadcast partner, Taz, that knew much more about the business than he did. Today Cole takes up way too much time bragging during the broadcast. Theres nothing wrong with a heel commentator but when the ridiculousness going on at the broadcast table is distracting viewers from the match it starts to be detrimental to the show. It doesnt feel like they're calling a sporting event, it feels like they're trying to have their own show at ringside.

For me personally, I assume many others too from some of the replies I read, he just isn't good at his job. I find half the time he just talking out his ass and if he's actually talking about the action in the ring he doesn't have the passion JR has.

JR just added something more, he made those magical moments that little bit more .. He has passion for it, Cole doesn't and I don't think he ever will.

I know I'm comparing him to JR but it's the only way to explain why I dislike him :p

As an announcer, Michael Cole is average. He's certainly not "voice of the WWE" material. And I'm not talking about how he puts down some wrestlers, I'll get to that shortly. He's average because he botches calls far too often, he doesn't have the passion of J.R. has and he doesn't have the insight or charm of Matt Striker.

But on to the crux of many poster's arguments - his putting down of some Superstars. Why does no one realise that Cole has fairly little control over what he says? Vince McMahon is in the commentator's ears throughout the show, telling them what to say. If it isn't Cole talking about how Daniel Bryan is a nerd, it'd be someone else. I guess the IWC like to talk about how WWE's micro-managed when it suits them.

Michael Cole is an average announcer. He has his ups and downs. An up being his part in getting The Miz over in 2010. A down being his aforementioned incompetence ("Anaconda Vice! Anaconda Vice!"). I'd love to see him tone down his character and start putting Daniel Bryan over, but that's down to the powers that be, and not the man himself.

Hate is a strong word. I certainly don't HATE Michael Cole. He is incredibly annoying with his "Vintage!" lines and his constant obsession with Twitter or his fanboyism of The Miz that borders on creepy some nights. I dislike him as an announcer. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I hate him OR that he's "ruining the product". He's just annoying. His job is to be a heel announcer, so if he makes you boo him then he's doing what he's supposed to. I'm just glad we no longer have to deal with "Can I have your attention please, I have received another email. AND I QUOTE". That was beyond annoying and I legit hated those promos.

I did find his feuds with Lawler and JR to be a waste of everyone's time. If WWE put even half of the effort that they put into Cole into pushing the heels who WRESTLE, the product might be a bit better. Even though Cole is indeed incredibly annoying, I think he gets more hate than he deserves because even though he sucks and says really annoying things, when it all comes down to it, the man is just doing his job. They pay him to talk about Twitter or say Vintage. So, no, I don't hate Michael Cole. I dislike him though and would rather see someone like Matthews or even Striker as the main announcer instead. Cole would have a bright future as a heel manager if he ever stopped announcing.

Yes, he is a good commentator, but the delivery of his role is abit mixed and needs to be watered down alittle to make him more tolerable to watch. His job is to create heat, not to hack and dissect the careers of half the roster.

Remember, there's a difference between being a heel and just being annoying. When you're watching a bad guy in a movie, you keep watching because you dislike the bad guy and want to know what's going to happen to them and the protagonist. However, when the bad guy is irritating and hard to watch, you either skip through their scenes or stop watching the movie

BINGO!! Especially the bold part. I don't know why someone hasn't quoted this yet (and it's from 2 weeks ago) because it's the closest thing I can find to the way I feel about Cole. It's the reason I can't watch the show House for example. Yes it's just a TV show I get that, but I hate the main character to the point where I don't even watch the show. Yes people can say he's doing a heel's job and he's doing it well, but he's crossed a line that he doesn't even know exists. It's the line between being a good/great heel and just being unbearably annoying to the point where people turn off or mute the TV when he rants about something.
