Why can't Chris Benoit apply the Sharpshooter correctly?

this is a long post.
Personally i think Benoit's body type is too different for him to do the "Bret" version. He has short arms and legs. Also with his short legs it seems like he's crouching/leaning foward a little bit. You can see what i mean better how almost everytime he does the move now there is a run-in with a guy jumping up on the apron in front of him. He lets go/jumps forward, knocks the guy off, and continues with the match.

The Sharpshooter is just another name for the Scorpion Deathlock. It's the WWE's name for it. The Sharpshooter and Scorpion Deathlock are not two different moves. Some wrestlers just apply the hold differently to others. Benoit applys it differently to Hart, he doesn't do it wrong, it's just his variation of the move. Hart, Benoit, Sting, Rock etc all do different variations of the same move, it's that simple. Benoit's version is more similar to Sting's version, but it's still called a Sharpshooter because that's the WWE's name for it. Hart was the first wrestler to popularize the move in the WWE, but they called it a Sharpshooter to fit his Hitman character. As the move had very rarely been used in WWE before, and with it being known as a Sharpshooter for so long in the WWE, there really was no point in changing the name of the move. Everyone knows it as a Sharpshooter, changing the name would only cause confusion, so they've kept calling it a Sharpshooter. This is all pretty simple really, I don't see what the problem is.

On a side note, Bret Hart's version is the best.:)

While yes, Benoit's version is mildly different, I think we should all learn to focus on the positive side of the situation.

We could always go back to The Rock's Sharpshooter. *shudder*

The fact is as a storyline...Benoit's sharpshooter/deathlock/whatever...isnt supposed to be Benoits finisher, it/s just to slow his opponent down thats why you can't compare the two because Bret's sharpshooter was his finisher.

Even if the move isn't considered his primary finisher, it doesn't mean that he's going to stop using it. Even Tuesday Night he beat Burke with the Sharpshooter. So regardless of if he's going to win every match with it or every match without it, it can't be considered that it's not a primary move of his.

As for said topic, Benoit is only not doing the Sharpshooter as Bret Hart did it, but that doesn't mean that they have to rename it, nor that he is doing it incorrectly. It is just a variation of said move, not a completely different one altogether. Bret Hart is the one associated with WWE, the original Sharpshooter, as it should be, therefore any variation should be and probably will be named the Sharpshooter.

Top ECW Star Injured, WrestleZone.com

According to at least one backstage source, Elijah Burke tweaked his back during his match against Chris Benoit this past Tuesday night on ECW on Sci Fi. We do not have an update on how bad the injury was and if it will require any down time. He was apparently limping around backstage for awhile after the match.

For whoever it was that said Benoit's Sharpshooter doesn't look like it hurts lets ask Burke if that's how he injured his back or maybe it was just cause he wrestled Benoit. it looks fine to me & i don't think Benoit could sit all the way down on someones back like Hart did cause Benoit looks too stocky where Hart looked like he had skinnier thighs & longer legs, plus Benoit would probably break their backs.

I believe that was their single match, not the one where he applied the Sharpshooter. Then again, I don't remember ther equalifing match so he could have put Burke in the Sharpshooter then as well.

On Beniot's Sharpshooter, I think he does it on purpose. It's more of a set up for the Crossface (from what I've seen), so he doesn't lock it in all the way to set up the Crossface. Then again, I've only seen him end one match with the Sharpshooter so I could be wrong.

Yeah most of the time Benoit will apply the Sharpshooter then jump outta that into the Crossface from what i've seen, doesn't mean he still can't hurt your back though.

i think benoit applys the sharpshooter in quite a slack way cause the majority of the time the opponent reaches the rope, it makes it easier to escape, anywa benoit usually doesnt finish matches with the shooter is what im saying but obv the sharpshooter was a more important move to bret than to benoit cause he basically won all his matches with it.

This guy has to be joking, there is very very little differance in the way the sharpshooter is applied any differance is likely due to the height differance, or like it has been mentioned because of the amount of injuries it could cause. If you wanna go on about why holds are not applied correctly then why cant John Cena apply the STF correctly?!
