I came across this on Twitter. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is on the line Sunday in one of 2 Money in the Bank matches. Everybody following WWE has seen both belts hanging above the ring. Why are there still 2 belts? I'm curious to see what everybody thinks or if anybody even cares.

I've been wondering the same for awhile. Maybe WWE couldn't introduce a single title because of Daniel Bryan's injury, and will do it after someone wins this Sunday.
Makes me wonder if the WWE is fully committed to keeping the two titles unified. It would be much easier to revert back to two major championships again if there are two physical belts still in place. And it makes me wonder if it could be setting up a scenario where two guys climb the ladder, and each guy grabs a belt. What happens then, a unification match at the next PPV? Or two champs again.
As much as they love their new belt, I am sure it is somewhat of a tough decision to phase out the big gold one. 2 belts give them options like Habs said, but it does also have me guessing. Plus, there just isnt enough legit talent around to have 2 separate titles & spreading the storyline pool thinner than it already is for the main event could pose a problem.
I would assume the titles become one by Survivor Series. Unless they plan on splitting the belts\shows in a way that clearly sets one apart from the other ( WWE title= more family friendly stories\characters; World title= serious\edgy focused more on matches\competition)

Im guessing they phase out the 2-belt thing when they transition to the new logo after SummerSlam.
I can only hope when they produce the new belt, it will at least alude to the lineage of the WHC in some design capacity

The big shiny gold belt is the best looking belt ever made and has a shitload of history (like Triple H is going to get rid of Ric Flair's belt). The other one has a massive WWE logo and was introduced by The Rock just 18 months ago. Choosing between the two is difficult so just keep -and sell replicas of- both

There are several answers to this inquiry.
1.) Having two belts means mommy and daddy have to buy both replicas in order to make little Timmy happy.
2.) The image of a top tier talent holding 2 titles instead of one and calling himself champion is a very legitimate way (in WWE's eyes) to make someone more threatening/ give them more star power.
3.) Lack of actual singles talent. At least when the combination took place. (opinion)
4.) In retrospect, the titles seem to have been combined for DB and what transpired at WM 30. With DB being injured (Don't think anyone predicted that would happen) WWE cant just jump off that train and is still trying to make sense of it all..Perhaps at MITB we will get some closure. MHO is that two champions will leave MITB this sunday.

I've thought about the future of the two belts for quite some time now and honestly ive feel the best senerio to unify them into one is to let none other then Paul Heyman.
Lesnar beats Cena at SummerSlam for the WWE WHC. The next night on RAW in the middle of the ring sits a trash can Lesnars music hits but out come Heyman dragging both titles along side him with the biggest smile on his face. As he gets in the ring grabs a mic and cuts a promo only as Heyman can.
Ladies and gentlemen my name is Paul Heyman and My client BBBRRRRRROOOOOCKK LESNAR has done it all. He has beaten down and broken everybody who has been put in his way. He is THE 1 in 21-1 he has put down the likes of HHH, The Big Show, CM Punk and last night he maimed the face of the WWE John Cena and became THE NEW WWE WHC CHAMPION! But my client is above both of the hunks of trash. Lets start with this WHC it hasnt meant anything since the likes of Ric Flair and Sting. The WWE tried to piggy back its legendary lineage handing the belt to HHH and its been worthless ever since. One belt has been around just over a year. The other has been used for 4 separate championships and its design has existed since Ric Flair first brought it in about 30 years ago. It holds loads of history. I personally do not wanna see it go away.
Well, if they really want to mix things up & keep the merch selling- do away with belts completely. Who is up for WWE Championship hats? How about World Title keychains?

I believe there are still 2 Championship title Belts because they sell very well. You have the current WWE Championship Title Belt, the Big W, and every kid who watches the WWE wants it. Plus it makes for a great marketing tool. Think of it as a flag, but better. Then you have the World Championship Title Belt, the Big Gold, and every adult who watches the WWE with their kids wants it. Its the Belt they grew up seeing. So you have the future and past covered in the present.

The real answer is to sell two belts in stores.
I'm hoping the answer is that it's because it looks cool and makes the distinction of being World Champ even more legit.
But I'm sure after Summerslam when they switch over to the new logo, there will be a new belt. I hope it looks like the belt from the late 90's with the globe on it. It might be called the Winged Eagle or I might have them mixed up.

I think what NorCal said about the new WWE logo being phased in around SummerSlam has a part to play in it. The historical and financial factors likely play into it as well.
I can't help but seeing some stupid scenario where Cena and Orton are slugging it out on top of the ladder this Sunday and one guy grabs the WWE Championship and the other grabs the World Heavyweight Championship and Kane(because WWE will find some BS reason to keep pushing Kane down our throats as a legit demon) pushes the ladder over just as both guys unhook their respective belt and we are right back where we were this time last year.

Maybe even something like Cena takes down the WWE title down as he falls, leaving the World title still up & another person realizes it, then climbs the ladder to grab that belt as his own. Thus leaving the crowd perplexed and irritated at the scenario. If they make a big deal out of saying 'The winner climbs the ladder to retrieve both belts...' then we know exactly what finish we are in store for.
Either way if Reigns doesnt Superman Punch someone off the ladder I will be pissed.
