whose spot would Mysterio have taken in the WCW Invasion?

Getting Noticed By Management
Most know that the reason Mysterio didn't come right to WWE after the big purchase was because he still had a another year on his WCW contract.

with that said, Rey was the most popular cruiserweight at WCW at that time and what would have changed with the invastion angle. More importantly whose place would he have taken.

To me it's easy, I think Hurricane wouldn't have made it because he along with Billy Kidman and Chavo were the WWE WCW cruiserweights brought over.

Looking back you have to think that Shane Helms may not have been given the change to be Hurricane. Rey would have done great for the Light Heavyweight title as it was at that time.

Looking back at the invasion roster the cruiserweights were Kidman, Chavo, Hurricane.

My question is. Which of those wouldn't have made it with Rey there at the Beginning?

My answer: Hurricane

I'd probably go with Hurricane. However, look at where Hurricane is at now?

He did the smart move in waiting out the contract, then getting his own hyped debut. Worked perfectly. People don't seem to look at it this way, but he's one of the biggest WWE stars that didn't even come CLOSE to getting a start in WWE.

I agree it was a smart move, I just finished his book, he had to finish out the contract which was more than what he started off once he did come to WWE. So it was a smart move with that. Also, because all the WCW guys were having to prove they deserve to be there. Some like RVD and Booker T made there mark and others like Kanyon and Bill DeMott didn't really matter anymore. Although I'm sure That would have had management looking at him along with many others. Since he came in a year later he was the one getting the attention and able to get a push from the start.

First off kid Invasion usually when a red line appears under a word its wrong...

But to answer your question I'll humor you really Mysterio wouldn't have needed to replace anyone, however he would've made things relevant and actually helped build the WCW because he was a bigger name but in the same aspect 99% of the cruiserweights who went to WWE after ECW and WCW demise were mask less and degraded see Juvi, Super Crazy, and Psicosis the only person who kept their dignity in WWE with a mask other than Rey was Ultimo Dragon. So in all honesty it was good to rebuild rey up and put the mask back on him before redebuting on WWE television.

Rey got the mask back on because he got permission from his uncle to use his name. Nothing to do with the WWE. If his uncle had said no, he'd still have Jr. at the end of his name and be unmasked. Why Juvi and Psicosis didn't do something similar is beyond me. Also, Super Crazy was a ECW guy. Nothing to do with the mass-unmasking in WCW.

Rey wouldn't have taken anybodies spot - he'd simply have been another member of the WCW invasion. The only difference is that you can be sure that he'd have come in as Cruiserweight Champion. Another strong possibility is that he'd have been like RVD in that fans would probably have cheered him despite being part of a heel group.

I don't think he would've taken anyone's spot. All those other cruiserweights were really good. My question is why Juventud didn't debut in WWE sooner... He was honestly my favorite cruiserweight besides Kidman (it was the shooting star press). Remember his rivalry with Chris Jericho, who unmasked him? Classicness. I understand why Rey made such a splash, but for the life of me I can't understand how more people don't complain about the 619! That move is unbelievable (in the bad way). If he had something else I might have actually liked him.

I think the problem with the 619 is that it was never actually an offensive move in WCW - it was used to con opponents on the outside into believing he was going to perform a suicide dive. Then he would either mock them or perform an alternate move like an inside to outside hurricanrana while they are distracted wondering where he went. The 619 kick to the face was a WWF tweak and the old version is now never used. Juvi was great, unfortunately he was a known troublemaker backstage and, let's not forget, not a Vinnie Mac stereotypical wrestler.

I dont think Rey would have replaced anyone in the Invasion, he would simply have been another addition to the faction, albeit the biggest new Cruiserweight. He would have come in as the Cruiserweight champion and then feuded with Tajiri/X-Pac etc to unify the titles. While he may have taken the feud, he would have taken anyone else's spot in the group. If the WWE wanted to keep wasters like Hugh Morrus and Shawn Stasiak around, then no-one out of Kidman, Chavo and Helms would have been ignored to make space for Rey.

The thing is, just like RVD, Rey would have probably got over with the WWE fans and would have been cheered for his flashy moves. Plus, he got his own individual hyped debut a year later when he did eventually join Vince's company. While I certainly think Rey's presence would have aided WCW/ECW in the Invasion, for his own career he probably made the right decision to wait, as it meant he got hyped on his own, and got the focus on him, rather than being part of a large faction where he would have been overshadowed by wrestlers like Austin, Booker T and Van Dam

It was best that he waited when he did. Him being there during the Invasion would've been as smart as Hogan or Flair being there at that time. Vince had no intentions of making WCW look good, regardless of who was on the Alliance side then.

Personally I think Rey was better off waiting out his contract, not just from a financial stand point. A few of you have mentioned that there was a big risk in him being buried trying to prove himself, which is a good point. As we all know Rey waited out his contract and it was a good way to build up hype. It was also a good way to forget that at the end of his WCW run he was unmasked which took away so much momentum Rey had, at least for me. I don't think Rey would've worked on the level because the Invaders were marketed as the heels, and rightfully so. I just can't see how he would make a good heel, but who knows?

As for who we could've replaced in the Invasion angle.. I wouldn't go with the Hurricane simply because The Hurricane was such an intricate part of the angle. He probably wouldn't have made it had it not been for his work with Stone Cold and later The Rock [one of my favorite feuds of all time.] But if they had gone with Mysterio during the angle, he could've replaced any of the lesser known WCW stars, like Jindrak or O'Haire. It's hard to pick one because I'm still not sure how he would've fit in.
