Obvioulsy Kennedy was most people choice. But with him being drafed to Raw it doesn't look like it will happen. Edge is supposed to have a long reign. And he should. Because I can see anybody who deserves to take the title off him. Henry sucks, as does Batista. Undertaker is out, and injury prone. I doubt any of them will be holding the title in the near future.

My pick is MVP. I'm high on him at the moment. I think Benoit has done well with him. He's getting over and he's having decent match's. I really think he will be the next World Heavyweight champion. I dont see him getting the title before Mania next year. But an Ege/MVP main event seems possible to me. I'm not sure who would be the face. But I see the fans turning MVP if he continues to improve as much as he has recently.

^^ i agree, but MVP draws so much heat as a heel and so does edge so i can see more of a triple threat main event between edge mvp and mat hardy or some1

Looking at the Brand in general I think you summed it up quite nicely Jake as there not much talent at this point to have someone take the gold off Edge. You almost feel bad for Edge in the sense that he gets the chance to be the man on his own show with the gold and he getsthe B show. Though with that aside i can see Rey winning if he stays on Smackdown but my personal pick is one of my new favorite wrestler as he has been impressing the heel out of me and that is MVP.

I pick MVP as he is going to take Kennedy's role that Kennedy was achieving on Smackdwon. he can get over the fans with his brash cockyness if he contunies to develop in the ring. but i can see MVP with a regin if not this years i can see him as next year MITB winner.

Edge will hold it till he can feud with Rey, Rey will probably dethrone him. 2nd option. Ric Flairs long awaited 17th title... Matt Hardy is a dark horse for a one night/one week reign. Batista needs to move down the card for a while and get this feud with Henry done...

i think it needs to be matt hardy, mvp is not main event material yet, his in ring work is very good and i see a cocky side to him, but on the mic he does not come across as that brash to me.

matt hardy deserves it more than anyone on the s/d roster, jeff came back and got a nice run as ic champ, matt was there b4 and basically got nuthin, he had the CW or US title for abit but that was it, i think it was the CW title though.
2nd would be flair for a short run, juss becuz he can still draw and when he's in a title match the crowd is 100 % behind him and he never wins
3rd kane, but i dont see wwe ever pushing him

I'd agree that Matt Hardy is a prime candidate. Anyone who is still denying this guy's talent is crazy, he's been nothing but gold in the ring over the last year, he's really come into his own as a wrestler who can pull out all the stops and have exciting matches on the drop of a hat that doesn't involve a ladder. His matches for the last few monthes on Smackdown are always the things I look forward to the most, he has impressed the hell out of me especially over the last month with great matches with guys like Regal, Benoit, Kennedy.

I do have my doubts that they ever will actually boost Matt up to the main event scene, if you're not roided up it seems that Smackdown just doesn't give a fuck about you (or rather, the creative team doesn't). But if given the chance, I'm sure a main event program would be great, not to mention the built in feud with Edge already that would be real easy for a good storyline. It sells itself; everyone knows about the Edge-Lita-Hardy triangle.

They'll probably go with The Great Khali though, just to piss off the smarks. :D

Ahh those damn Hardy Boyz invading this thread. I think that he is going to be the guy to feud with Edge right away, but there is no way Edge should drop the belt to Hardy. I'm not high on Matt Hardy. His matches are very plain and have little excitement, and he is remote grabbing bad on the mic.

I would imagine it's going to be the Undertaker taking the belt off of Edge. Edge deserves a nice long title reign. A very long title reign would be nice. batista is a dud, Khali Sucks, Mark Henry Sucks. Rey Misterio is probably the most logical choice when he comes back, but then again, why start a feud with Umaga and not finish it? So really I can't see anyone taking that strap off of him that deserves to be called a world champion.

I, Like Jake, am very high on MVP, and I think he's set for a face turn very soon. I think he'll be involved with Dykstra and Masters for a while. The only thing that I have a problem with MVP on, and it's picky, is the damn ring gear.. It's going to be impossible to take the Most Valuable Powerranger seriously. Clothing change, and he's good to go. I don't think he's World title ready, even within a year, but I think he will be eventually.

My Picks:
1. Undertaker
2. Rey Rey
3. MVP
4. That Elusive 17th Title Reign for Flair
5. Dead Air Dave
Somewhere on the Bottom: Matt Hardy.

Edit* So Being the complete dipshit that I am, I forgot entirely about Kane being on Smackdown still, but really, who hasn't. I know there is a small but vocal Kane Should Be Champ group out there, but his last best chance was in 2003.

There was an archived headline on WZ news about Edge's title reign - it being that he will be given a long one.

So long would to me indicate that he goes all the way to WM 24 and drops it to 'Taker to try again with HIS long reign.

Though that is my prime choice, I would agree with either Rey or MVP also. MVP really has the whole thing going, and it's just a matter of time before he breaks into the main event picture.

As for Kane, I'd love to see him get another run, but the damn WWE has been misusing him for years - I doubt they'll ever get their head out of their ass and realize the guy deserves the push.

Same thing applies with Hardy as it does for Kane, Creative just doesn't want to do anything with him for whatever reason.

No one else can fit the bill IMO, but I am quite narrow minded about who can go where.

shockmaster...if u were wondering about the Kane Should Be Champ group ....its right here....hell kane is not a main eventer but u can say the guy does not deserve it....the guy never complain about the stupid feuds he's being put in.......snitsky come on....he puts 110% all the time and gets nothing...i just hope wwe lets him get just 1 more title reing not just because he's my favorite but glen deserves it....any1 dissagree?

lol, anyway, I think Matt Hardy deserves it, but Edge also deserves a lengthy reign, i enjoy watching Edge's matches, hes fun to watch, but lately Matt's matches have been getting really fun to watch, counter after counter, its like playing Smackdown vs RAW on legend with the counters up to the highest level, Matt is gaining heat really fast.

I would love to see Hardy as the champ possibly taking the title from Edge somewhere around Armageddon then losing it back to him at the rumble. (feud would start after Vengeance) plus Hardy has already said he would love to be in that feud.

My second choice is a tie between MVP and Flair both great only problem is the experience MVP to little plus he will problably have a long US run and too much on the part of Flair, too old to get the title IMO.

Kane would be a good add to the Hardy-Edge feud because of the, albeit terrible but still there, feud with Hardy over Lita could play a part in possibly Hardy's win at Armageddon or something.

What I see is that the WWE is trying to push RAW as its number one brand and seems to be trying to give ECW a good start but they are just leaving Smackdown with probably 4 or 5 contenders for the title and as stated before two are crap, Henry and Batista.

Picks:
1. Hardy
2. Flair
3. MVP
4. Kane
5. Victoria (I know not gonna happen but she is probably better than the rest of the men in terms of wrestling technique)
6. anyone else (divas prbably better than the rest of the group of men)

Regardless of how much he deserved it anyway, Edge was at the end of the day a placeholder champ, and that place he's holding for is the Undertaker's. Honestly, the Deadman can't have that many more years left in the tank, and I saw his Rumble and Mania wins as part of a swan song reign, which I figure has to commence upon his return. Right now Edge is the only guy I can see them wanting Taker to win it from, unless they do something god awful like put it on Henry or Khali. It /could/ conceivable switch to a face like Rey and then go back to Edge, but I think the next major change will be when Taker comes back.

Worst case scenario is this. Batista wins it back and then they have him fight Khali. That will be ten million times worse than Cena vs Khali. Of course, that is if Batista wins.

I honestly believe that the Undertaker will win the title when he returns in October simply because they are giving Edge a long title reign and Bautista is going to be pushed down the card for now. Plus we have not really seen a good Undertaker-Edge feud. That would be really good for Smackdown and would give Undertaker one more reign as champ.

one word. Hornswoggle
That's beautiful. Really. I Vote Jimmy Wang Yang.

In reality, I have to go with Matt too really. He beat Edge's proposed opponent Kennedy, who beat Taker, and he is the only real possible contender besides Rey, who, depending on Vince's death angle(which in my opinion, he is going to make a return and have set up his own "death" for publicity or something and will be back) is supposed to fued with Vince upon return, right? Who else is there. Batista's 90th reign, Mark Henry, Khali. I think not. Maybe Flairs final title reign, a swan song for him ended by Takers swan song. But i see it being Matt or Flair.

I agree about kane, he's such a great superstar and really deserves a push, kane and edge had a good feud in the past and this would really help smackdown. If not kane, i'd like to see flair or matt hardy. Dont forget about chris masters, he was suppose to get a big push, so this may be his chance.

love to see hardy finally get it. i think it may happen. His skills become more polished every week, and they need another main event caliber wrestler on the show. plus it would be a victory over Vince seeing how 2 years ago he was deemed "expendable". but thanx to his fan-base he was brought back and now, receives some of the biggest pops of the night.

Kane would be deserving also. Year in/year out he has been a consistent mainstay for the company. He's not getting any younger too. I wish my only memory of him in the title hunt didn't involve Katie Vick. ughh.....

After the draft what about the possibility of the younger guys gettin pushed up..ie kenny, and masters. Kenny at least has the goods.

If Edge drops the title to anyone, its going to be Batista. (as much as I hate that..) Although Hardy has improved in the ring, his mic skills are still terrible. The same goes for Kane. To be a World Champion, you need to be able to carry yourself on the mic AND in the ring. I honestly think Edge will retain against Taker. It will be an amazing feud either way

I think Edge will drop the title to Batista. What with it being a last chance match at Vengeance, like their gonna keep one of their biggest draws ou of the title picture. I think this is another case of bullshit internet reporting and we'll see Edge drop the title this Sunday. I hope I'm wrong.

Honestly and sadly I say this but he will probably dropping the belt to Batista because in the draft to Smackdown all they got was heels except for Flair.

Batista is the only one really Edge can drop the belt to because he is the major face on Smackdown unless they want to turn Edge face which would be utter bullshit because he is an amazing heel.

Except for Rey.But in my opinion he is not main event material. No offense because Reys in ring work is exceptional and he is great but the farthest I can see him going is the upper card.

Luther- unfortunately I agree with you. I don't think the Edge-Batista fued is over and I think we all should brace ourselves for yet another boring Batista title reign. Hopefully I am completely wrong. With Kennedy's move to RAW, I would like to see Matt Hardy or MVP get a derserving push. Both guys have been made to look strong as of late, so the possibility still exists that we will be spared a Batista victory at Vengence.

Matt Hardy should be the one to beat Edge after their feud in 2005 just think what it could be like with a title on the line

Please not Batista. I don't think I can cope with seeing that walking piece of crap in the title picture for much longer. I hope this is a long title run for Edge, he deserves it, and with Kennedy now on Raw and Benoit now on ECW, there's no one else on the smackdown roster who'd make a credible champion anyway. For me there are 2 possible options for who Edge should drop the title to.. Undertaker or MVP. Undertaker would make a lot of sense, he could get his revenge on Edge at WrestleMania 24 in a highly anticipated match. And if it's MVP, they can build him up nicely then turn either him or Edge face around Survivor Series or Royal Rumble time which will set up a match between them at WrestleMania.

After reading the results of sd! tonight, I am starting to think more and more that Batista will regain the title. Lets just hope the creative team doesn't screw this up for Edge. Oddly enough, they have set up one hell of a match for WM24. Sure to be a classic

How about Chris Masters??
granted he's not ready just yet but easily before the end of the year he could challenge:xmen:
