Who will break Ric Flair's Record?

Harddyboy77

I'm cool
Ok as everyone knows Ric Flair has held the most world championships in history. At 16, it seems many wrestlers are coming close.
So my question to you is WHO will break it?
My picks:
Sting-15 times
Kurt Angle-11 times however TNA counts it as more
Randy Orton-9 times
John Cena-12 times
Triple H-13 times

That being said my pick is John Cena

Unfortunately it's going to be Cena. What everyone needs to keep in mind when it happens is how short his reigns were compared to Flair's. That's about the only thing that will keep you from pulling your hair out over it.

well obviously the smart money is on Cena to do it first, but Sting is also a good choice. I never realized he was up to 15. I think that everybody listed will break the record.

Maybe at Wrestlemania 30 WWE will have Cena or somebody else beat whomever is champion for his 17th reign to make a "Wrestlemania" moment. Who knows? Maybe Flair will be involved with the WWE again by then and can come to the ring to congratulate him.

but regardless I kind of hate that they make a big deal over the amount of reigns. It just means that they have also lost the title that many times......

John Cena. Without a doubt, hes not everyone's favorite but its obvious hes going to break flairs record, Cena is young and has a lot more years in him, i could see him going 17+ unless.. he has a career threatening injury like edge, then i guess it will be Sting.

There's absolutely no doubt that John Cena will not only break Flair's record, but in fact he will absolutely smash it. Still in his 30's and already at 12, I cannot see how he could not break the record easily. He's always in the title picture, or at least not too far removed from it, and the title is somewhat of a hot potato anyway. And his record will have greater significance in the grand scheme of things because they will be all WWE titles. One could question the significance of Flair's record anyway because a lot of them were won outside of the world of the WWE (all due respect to his NWA titles).

All due respect to Sting and Angle, but I cannot view the TNA World Heavyweight Championship as being as significant as a WWE title. So there's no way they break the record. I think Orton will continue to have a stellar career but I'm not sure he will win another eight titles, although it is a distinct possibility.

At one point, Triple H seemed to be the obvious choice, but now I'm
not so sure. If I were to guess, I would say yes, he'll beat Flair's record but by then, Cena will have eclipsed that mark anyway. One final thought is Edge. I know he is retired with injuries, but guys come back from supposed career ending injuries all the time. HBK returned for many years after his career ending back troubles, so I haven't fully ruled out an Edge return. However, even if he does return, it us unlikely that he will win many more titles.

Bottom line? John Cena will set the new standard for career titles, beating Flair's mark by a mile. And he will go it all in the major leagues, something that even Flair did not do. And he will do it much to the chagrin of all of his haters.

I think Cena, Flair, and Sting all break it. Cena IMO is too young not to break it. Eventually I think Sting will win the title to tie the record, and then him and Flair will trade the belt a few times.

Holding back any career ending injury or a tiger woods mishap Cena will easily break the record!!! I say his title reigns will be in the 22-25 range when its all said and done!! You gotta give the devil his due Cena is the hardest worker there is right now really cares and busts his ass night in and night out!! Cena is the only one right now that can break the record i wonder what flairs reaction will be??

Even if Sting beat it, it wouldn't count with TNA Titles. I think Cena will break it and deserves to. I just hope a few of them happen as a heel. In fact, if Flair lives long enough, it would be great to see heel Cena break the record by beating face HHH with Flair in his corner. Ultimate heat.

The receord is a joke, Ric Flair is actually a 21 time World cHAMPIOPN, wwe will have you believe its only 16. John Cena, Randy Orton, even HHH will all surpass 16 by the end of their careers.

As long as Cena remains healthy, yes he will be the one to do it. How I would like to see it done, would be at a Mania. Someone posted before of having Flair come out to congratulate him. Good idea, but I have something different in mind.

Cena is stripped of the title, some controversial decision. The title is vacant, and will be decided at Mania. At EC, Cena wins to get a shot at the title at Mania. The following night on RAW, Vince tells Cena that he will be getting his shot at becomming 17 time WC. But, in order for Cena to be the man, you must first beat the man. Out comes Flair.

Without doubt Cena will break it, like others have said he isn't so far off it now in his 30s. I also would see Orton breaking it at some point too (although Cena would stay ahead of him).

I don't see Triple H breaking it actually, I see him having one more title run just before full retirement, or maybe winning the belt at Wrestlemania and retiring with it (way of getting rid of the brand extension perhaps?), but I don't see another 4 title reigns in him.

As another poster already stated though, people should start looking at total number of days as champ rather than how many title wins they have. WWE obviously won't as Bruno Sammartino is, literally, years ahead of the pack, but we should

Actually if people want to talk Flair's regional World Championships he is a 21 time world champion. Out of respect I feel no one should ever beat it.

Cena has been bred to break it, there's no conceivable way he won't outside of catastrophic career injuries.

Triple H may have 1 or 2 more reigns, but he's not in any shape to wrestle often now.

Kurt Angle has already said he doesn't have long left, I don't think he has 5-6 more reigns in him.

RKO is young, he has a chance, but I think he's playing 2nd fiddle to Juan Chena.

People saying to watch the days held over title reigns on Ric Flair don't take into account the different era we live in, you can't have year long champions now without riots occuring, it's boring with how much WWE we get forced in our face. Back when Flair wrestled, you could hold the title for 12 months while keeping your reign interesting. Look at title defenses from the previous eras (Not counting 0% chance of turnover matches) Any way you cut it, you can skew the records any way you would like, but bear in mind that title reigns are still a product of Kayfabe, so any record Vince wants Cena to break, he will break.

So, all being said, Cena is the no brainer.

Not to repeat the same thing that everyone else has already said but there's no doubt that Cena is the man to break Flairs record. The man is the biggest thing since Hulk Hogan and he has been built to break it, nobody is a more unstobbable superstar than Cena. He has already won the WWE Championship 10 times and the World Heavyweight Champion, and he still has plenty of time left before he fades from being the main event monster that he is. From now until the end of his career there is no doubt in my mind he will break Ric Flair's record.

Sting is not a 15 time champion, he is a 12 time champ. Even if you count his 2 wcw international title reigns (which nobody does) thats only 14. Flair held the WCW International title (which isn't counted in his 16 reigns).

Number of reigns has become a joke, Flair has individual reigns that are longer than all 12 of edge's reigns combined. Cena will be the one to beak it because every story line ends with Cena winning the tilte and that will not change in the near future.

To the guy that questioned Flairs NWA reigns. You know NOTHING about wrestling. That was the most meaningful title in wresting until the late 80's when the WWF title became just as sgnificant. Flair has reigns after that which are not included in the 16. The history of wrestling didn't start when you started watching this decade!

Ric Flair is unofficially a 22 time world champion not the official 16
6 were either not televised or were part of the NWA/WCW going back and forth uniting and seperating titles.

The other thing is Cena is a 12 time WWE champion and all that in a 7yr period, 1 company.

Ric Flair/Hogan/Sting were world champions over 2-3 decades and have held titles in seperate 3 companies IMO that's far more impressive then someone holding 12 titles in the 1 company in 6yrs.

It's all irrevant anyway, it's not about the amount of reigns, it's the quality of the holder that counts. Ric/Hogan/Sting were great in his day and had far more long standing fueds and 1hr matches, Cena not so much, but as much as alot of us hate on him, he is a marketing machine and a dedicated worker gotta give the devil his due, he is the Hogan of this era in that respect.

I remember thinking that Hulk Hogan winning his third title was an unbreakable record...

When did Flair holding the title 16 or 22 times become a beatable record? Only recently have I heard talk of someone surpassing him as having the most titles of all time. Its a silly record anyway, Its not like he really "won" a title. He earned it based on storyline. Plus he kind of OWNED the belt for a period of time, so its not like it wasn't going to get it back if he lost it.

Wow, I've become cynical in my old age... Cena is going to break the "record." If the Rock had stuck around or if HHH didn't lose time to injuries they would be above Cena in title count though. Cena is the biggest star and he's devoted to the business... and he's got at least ten years left in him. Maybe when it's all said and done Orton will beat him, hes so young and already won so many, but they both have to stay injury free.

Side note, I would love to see who has the record for most titles by the age of thirty. You figure most guys can go til their fifty, i wonder who has the biggest jump start.

john cena is the best pick. his reigns have lately been short around a month or 2 :/ to think his first reigns lasted years. Anyways cena MIGHT break it but every1 knows rick pulled it out from sheer determination

wow how fitting that im poster 18 and that was his official account for so long.

Its true that the title is hot potatoed around these days. we have to take other things into consideration. the fact that a 12 time or whatever champ like Cena or HHH had to have lost 11 times too and things going on during those reigns of note and the day count. Flair has probably held his titles for 10 years worth of time. Some of his titles during the '90s were not held too long. I think one was held for like 52 days, one a night, etc etc. It would take 4 of his reigns to match up to Sammartino's first WWWF title reign. Probably 3 to match up to Hogan's first WWF title reign. Then there is the whole issue of title recognition. Because the WWF title was a World title and WWE's WWE Championship is a top title that automatically elevates guys who held the WWF and WWWF heavyweight titles. Its the same for how the earlier Eastern Championship Wrestlling heavyweight title holders might call themselves World champions because at its conclusion in 2001 ECW did have a World heavyweight title.

you guys are saying the TNA World title is not a World title but we count Ron Simmons as a World champion and we count Flair's WCW titles between 1991-3 as World titles and on the flip side we have Sting holding the NWA World title c. 1991 even though that title was running on WCW power fully. Then he holds the NWA title in TNA but it has lost world title recognition by that point. PWI magazines lists him as a former NWA World champion and a former NWA heavyweight champion. We recognized Flair's and Stings WCW International title but Rude gets no credit for capturing it.

I remember when Cena hurt his peck or something towards the end of 2007. I was actually rooting for Cena to keep the belt because he would have held it from 2006 til 2008. Hogan in the '80s was the last time a WWF title reign occupied 3 or more year slots. Cena will probably be the last guy to do this and could had done it back then. RKO can't even do that on Smackdown and Friday Nights were supposed to be bestowed upon him by the brass anyways..

Because of the title going around so much you gotta count days. If there is to be any cross generational analysis a day count is the only bridge. I feel like in terms of eras Cena was WWE champ from 2006-11. I feel like Austin was champ from 1997-9. Hogan was champ from 1984-1992.

I know some people might not agree but I think Jerry the King Lawler holds the record. He held the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship (WCWA and AWA Heavyweight Belt combined) 28 times. I say Ric Flair is second but I give him the top spot because NWA/WCW/WWF belts meant a little more, but both put in years of work not a couple of years like Cena,Orton, etc.:worship:

1. Lou Thesz 3 3,749
2. Ric Flair 10 3,101
3. Harley Race 8 1,862
4. Dan Severn 2 1,559
5. Dory Funk, Jr. 1 1,502
6. Gene Kiniski 1 1,131
7. Jeff Jarrett 6 1,006
8. Pat O'Connor 1 903
9. Jack Brisco 2 866
10. Adam Pearce 4 839 !839+
11. Orville Brown 1 692
12. Buddy Rogers 1 573
13. Blue Demon, Jr. 1 505
14. Naoya Ogawa 2 469
15. Terry Funk 1 424
16. Dick Hutton 1 421
17. Christian Cage 2 245
18. Whipper Billy Watson 1 239
19. Sting 2 216
20. A.J. Styles 3 196
21. Mike Rapada 2 176
22. Steve Corino 1 175
23. Barry Windham 1 147
24. Masahiro Chono 1 145
25. Ron Killings 2 119
26. Dusty Rhodes 3 107
27. Steve Corino 1 97
28. Raven 1 88
29. Shinya Hashimoto 1 84
30. The Sheik 1 79
31. Ricky Steamboat 1 76
32. Ron Garvin 1 62
33. Tatsumi Fujinami 1 59
34. Abyss 1 56
35. Ken Shamrock 1 49
35. Brent Albright 1 49
36. The Great Muta 1 48
36. Colt Cabana 1 48
37. Sabu 1 38
38. Giant Baba 3 19
39. Kerry Von Erich 1 18
40. Gary Steele 1 7
41. Tommy Rich 1 4
42. Rhino 1 2
43. Shane Douglas 1 0

A.J. has the same amount as reigns as Thesz but they are not equal.. The Blue Demon's reign is the same as Muta's and Steamboat's but the validity of all three of those reigns is up for debate from certain stand points.

Christian and Sammartino have the same amount of reigns but there is no comparison from most viewpoints between the two wrestlers or their reigns.

We are recognizing WCW's NWA World title but not WWE's ECW World title or TNA's NWA title, yet we are recognizing WWE's WCW title/"World title" and we are recognizing brands yet "WCW International" is too outragious of a concept but two shows that are supposed to be seperate to make having too titles make sense constantly hook up like Ross and Rachel..

The logic we are using has no consistency. Add to the fact that I recognize and so do others Flair having over 18 reigns yet I still don't no why I can't all Antonio Inoki and i dont want to get heated up on this lovely saturday night discussing the BoBo Brazil situation.

P.S. Let me edit this in:
I know some people might not agree but I think Jerry the King Lawler holds the record. He held the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship (WCWA and AWA Heavyweight Belt combined) 28 times. I say Ric Flair is second but I give him the top spot because NWA/WCW/WWF belts meant a little more, but both put in years of work not a couple of years like Cena,Orton, etc.:worship:
Thats a situation I forget. We got Lawler holding this title 28 times yet it only had World title status for 1 or 2 of his reigns, and we can't even be sure when you strip it of its status but I know Hall held it and no one ever brings it up, maybe once or twice in the 1,467 debates we have had on the internet about him never gettin "da big one" and it really holds no credence for logical and legitimate reasons.

It's so sad what has happened. Selfishly, I know I can die happy knowing I saw the greats. We continue watching, not because of the quality of the product. Rather, we watch because we know how great it once was. Like having sex with a 60 year old. We always remember what she was like at 25.

That being said my pick is John Cena

i didnt realize sting was at 15 but i think if he wrestlers a couple more years hes gonna break flair's record for sure,angle....again depends on how much longer he keeps wrestling but with tna hes got a great shot,orton...at the first i thought he had a great shot but seeming hes only at 9 and honestly i cant see him going as long as cena in the business so im gonna say no to him but i think he ends up atleast tying triple h,cena...oh without a doubt hes gonna break it which is sad...triple h well a few years ago i thought he would but now hes clearly not gonna get another run (unless they give him 1 last run before he retires) but bottom line i think sting, angle, cena will all break it
