No doubt in my mind it has to be Bret Hart. As a singles wrestler, he was involved in 3 of the greatest matches ever, all at Summerslam. First, was his huge IC title win against an ailing Curt Hennig, aka Mr. Perfect. It is really heartbreaking listening to Bret talk about how much Curt gave in the ring during that match, despite being in excruciating pain. He sucked it up, though, in order to give Bret the chance to be pushed. That opportunity was the launching pad for Bret Hart's fantastic singles career. The IC match against Davey Boy has to rate as one of the most palpable, exciting matches I have ever seen. 90,000 fans packed Wembley Stadium to see that match. It was the main event, and imagine - it wasn't for the Heavyweight title, but for the IC title. That goes to show just how much prestige that belt used to carry, and how significant it was towards reaching the glass ceiling for so many great legends. A couple of Summerslams later, Bret pulls out another classic against his own brother Owen in a cage match. It was poetry in motion.
