Who do you think?

Championship Contender
This topic is basically about new school wrestlers and their counterpart from guys in the old days and you can post your own list and comments and concerns. Who do you think is the nest?

Stone Cold Steve Austin/Diamond Dallas Page-Mr Anderson-He has the whole loudmouth no nonsense attitude gimmick similiar to Austin. Anderson in another day could be considered another version of Rowdy Roddy Pipe

The Rock-"The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero-I know the IWC would flame me for this but I see it. The Pope is a People's Champion like Rock and is into all the glamour and clothes like Rock. He's funny too and has the charisma.

"The Immortal' Hulk Hogan-John Cena-Is this really explainable? Hogan was the Face of Wrestling in the 80s and now Cena is the Face Today. They both have their 5 moves of doom and are powerhouses/brawlers.

Chris Jericho-The Miz- No one may see it much but I think Miz has the mic skills of Jericho thats it, though.

"The Rabid Wolverine"Chris Benoit-Davey Richards/Bryan Danielson-They both have the get the job done and beat someone up attitude and are good submission specialists like Benoit. And respecitively they are the American Wolf and American Dragon. Worthy successors to the Wolverine.

Ted Dibiase-Alberto Del Rio- He has the arrogant rich man gimmick. that explains itself

"The Game" Triple H-Sheamus-Many may not see it because he's Irish and new but he has that complete warrior like gimmick similiar to Triple H and reminds me of a young Triple H. More personality could mold him into the Cerebral Assassin.

JBL/Ravishing Rick Rude-Robert Roode-He could be Rick Rude because he once came down to the ring with robes and because he's the Money Part of Beer Money and once had the money gimmick he could be JBL.

Kurt Angle-Jack Swagger-They both come from Amateur wrestling backgrounds with good technical ability and heel cockiness and have that little All-American gimmick. Also it's more than a coincidence that Swagger's new finisher is the Ankle Lock. hmm

Mr Perfect/Lex Luger-Dolph Ziggler-He looks like Perfect and he has the charisma and the ability. He has Luger's cockiness.

Shawn Michaels-John Morrison-Morrison's whole Hollywood gimmick is exactly how Shawn was when he first started. Morrison needs mic skills though but this is HBK Incarnate.

Bret Hart-Teddy Hart/Petey Williams-We all know there will never be another Bret Hart since it's hard to emulate his gimmick but Teddy Hart being the guy with the pompous gimmick is a worthy replacement. So could Petey simply because he probably one of the best Canadian stars since Bret

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat-Kaval-Kaval has that whole World Warrior ferocious type gimmick. Ricky was pretty ferocious in his gimmick so I see similiarities.

The Great Muta-Tajiri-From the Asian Mist to the trunks, Tajiri has been hailed as a Second Coming of the Great Muta. He has the best in ring work close to him and honestly is better than Kiyoshi, Okada, or anyone that is tryin to be the next Japanese big thing

Rey Mysterio-Amazing Red-Amazing Red is probably one of the best little men since Rey Mysterio and Red may even have some Hispanic background besides I do think it was Mysterio that got inspired to use 619 from Red's 718

Booker T-R-Truth-Ok maybe not the watered down R-Truth we seen in WWE. Ron Killings would be more exact. Ron has used the scissors kick as his finisher and he has that street intensity with the deep voice similiar to Booker.

William Regal-Paul Burchill/Desmond Wolfe/Douglas Williams/Wade Barrett-This was probably lazy on my part but I see all these stars as British stars that have potential to feel Regal's place. Burchill has already been considered a newer version. Wolfe got his own thing going but he has the snobbiness of Regal. Williams is face so don't know and Barrett has been considered to look like a Mafia guy and they hardly mention he's from England anymore. (barrett doesnt really have a gimmick but the leader of stables)
Konnan-Homicide

Mankind/Kane-Abyss-Some could consider him a ripoff but I don't. He was similiar but has the Monster gimmick like Kane and the Hardcore cuckooness like Mankind.

Goldberg-Batista-the physique, the look, Its already said no need explaining.

Trish Status-Mickie James-This can be debatable but I see it. Mickie has Trish's spunk and right now is the Face of Women's Wrestling. She was also involved with a storyline with Trish which she held her own in.

Chyna-Beth Phoenix-She's the new Power Diva with muscles, why not? Other choices would be Kong(monster) and Tara who was inspired by Chyna.

D-Generation X-James Storm-This was a lazy comparison on my part but Storm is a degenerate. 10 years ago I could see him hangin with these group of rebels.

Billy Kidman-Kazarian-The high flyer that doesnt really have a gimmick. That's simmilar to Kidman. Don't really know why but I see it.

Rhyno-Jesse Neal-They have the same finisher and Neal has Rhino's intenstity but he doesn't have Rhino's charisma I must say.

Goldust-Orlando Jordan-Goldust isn't gay but with the wigs and robes he made you think he was. Jordan is just straight up Bi so I see a comparison.

Taz-Samoa Joe-Although a bit distinct styles I see the Samoan Submissino Machine being a revamped Human Suplex Machine. This is obvious since comparisons came in when Joe was the Nation of Violence with Taz as manager

Chris Jericho-A.J Styles-He could be Jericho if he had Mic Skills. He got Jericho's demeaner and ring skills and their stances are similiar. "The Phenomenal" "Y2J" I see it.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka-Kofi Kingston-These men were both energetic high-flying geniuses that as long as their feet were off the ground people were outh of their seats. They both have the islander, foreign gimmick too.

i agree with most except for the triple h one, i think drew McIyntre(spelling?) is going to be the next trips he looks like triple h when he debuted as "the connecut blueblood"

and the james storm/DX james storm is more of a modern day stone cold, he drinks beer,he curses, he has a "f*ck you" attitude

Sure, i'll bite. Seems interesting.

Stone Cold Steve Austin/Diamond Dallas Page-Mr Anderson-He has the whole loudmouth no nonsense attitude gimmick similiar to Austin. Anderson in another day could be considered another version of Rowdy Roddy Pipre

This seems fairly obvious that Anderson is TNA's SCSA. I can't really make an argument against him because of the way TNA is booking Anderson. Although, I really don't think he fits the gimmick all that well. :\

The Rock-"The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero-I know the IWC would flame me for this but I see it. The Pope is a People's Champion like Rock and is into all the glamour and clothes like Rock. He's funny too and has the charisma.

My answer is going to be nobody here. NOBODY will come close to The Rock in any sense of the word. The Rock was truly one of a kind, nobody will repeat it. Cliche' answer, I know. Sue me.

"The Immortal' Hulk Hogan-John Cena-Is this really explainable? Hogan was the Face of Wrestling in the 80s and now Cena is the Face Today. They both have their 5 moves of doom and are powerhouses/brawlers.

How do you argue against Cena here? Clearly is the juggernaut of the WWE as Hogan was in the 80's for them. You hit the nail on the head here.

Chris Jericho-The Miz- No one may see it much but I think Miz has the mic skills of Jericho thats it, though.

My one issue with picking Miz here, is that he will never EVER be as great as Jericho was in the ring. Jericho in my opinion is the true best in the business. My pick here is CM Punk. Punk is great in the ring, and even better on the mic.

You got this half right. Davey Richards, if he doesn't quit the business and moves to the big time, will be the next Chris Benoit. This guy is so unbelievably talented I can hardly think when I'm watching him in the ring. DBD is not an valid option here just because he has a similar finisher as Benoit.

Ted Dibiase-Alberto Del Rio- He has the arrogant rich man gimmick. that explains itself

Your answer here, is money. ;)

"The Game" Triple H-Sheamus-Many may not see it because he's Irish and new but he has that complete warrior like gimmick similiar to Triple H and reminds me of a young Triple H. More personality could mold him into the Cerebral Assassin.

I'm going to assume with this category, you're talking about being the "Cerebral Assassin". Sheamus, is a good pick for this category but I really feel like there is a better option and that's in Drew McIntyre. One of the posters above me already made this argument, and I feel like he's exactly right.

JBL/Ravishing Rick Rude-Robert Roode-He could be Rick Rude because he once came down to the ring with robes and because he's the Money Part of Beer Money and once had the money gimmick he could be JBL.

I feel like JBL and Rick Rude should not be grouped together and I'm not sure who i'd pick for either. Although, Ted Dibiase Jr. would make a good JBL type character.

Kurt Angle-Jack Swagger-They both come from Amateur wrestling backgrounds with good technical ability and heel cockiness and have that little All-American gimmick. Also it's more than a coincidence that Swagger's new finisher is the Ankle Lock. hmm

This is more than obvious. Another good choice by you.

Mr Perfect/Lex Luger-Dolph Ziggler-He looks like Perfect and he has the charisma and the ability. He has Luger's cockiness.

I again don't see how these two are grouped together. But Mr. Perfect and Dolph Ziggler are a perfect match. :)

Shawn Michaels-John Morrison-Morrison's whole Hollywood gimmick is exactly how Shawn was when he first started. Morrison needs mic skills though but this is HBK Incarnate.

You are either right on, or really confusing. Here, you are right on. People have been making this comparison for a while, and in a year or two, I think we'll really see it.

None. Simple answer.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat-Kaval-Kaval has that whole World Warrior ferocious type gimmick. Ricky was pretty ferocious in his gimmick so I see similiarities.

No. Low Ki doesn't fit. I can see Yoshi Tatsu being the next Dragon, if WWE finally gives the poor kid a break and an actually gimmick :\. Side note, he does have awesome entrance music.

Again, no argument here.

Rey Mysterio-Amazing Red-Amazing Red is probably one of the best little men since Rey Mysterio and Red may even have some Hispanic background besides I do think it was Mysterio that got inspired to use 619 from Red's 718

Yes. I can't see anyone else being as talented as him. If Red can get some serious mic skills this kid's potential will be skyrocketed to the moon.

Booker T-R-Truth-Ok maybe not the watered down R-Truth we seen in WWE. Ron Killings would be more exact. Ron has used the scissors kick as his finisher and he has that street intensity with the deep voice similiar to Booker.

Yep, Ron Killings is perfect for the next Booker T. Something about R-Truth just rubs me the wrong way. I'd love to see a good gimmick change to something like a Booker T.

Very lazy. All Good picks except for Burchill. Out of the possibilities, i'd say Douglas Williams has the best chance of having the same gimmick as Regal. Probably with more success if he breaks out into something huge.

Mankind/Kane-Abyss-Some could consider him a ripoff but I don't. He was similiar but has the Monster gimmick like Kane and the Hardcore cuckooness like Mankind.

I guess.

Goldberg-Batista-the physique, the look, Its already said no need explaining.

Nope. I'm going to go with Mason Ryan or Ezekiel Jackson. Depends on who ends up being more dominate.

Trish Status-Mickie James-This can be debatable but I see it. Mickie has Trish's spunk and right now is the Face of Women's Wrestling. She was also involved with a storyline with Trish which she held her own in.

This isn't debatable, it's Michelle McCool. Clearly the most dominate diva of them all. Same as Trish was. Easy pick for McCool.

Chyna-Beth Phoenix-She's the new Power Diva with muscles, why not? Other choices would be Kong(monster) and Tara who was inspired by Chyna.

Duh. This is obvious.

D-Generation X-James Storm-This was a lazy comparison on my part but Storm is a degenerate. 10 years ago I could see him hangin with these group of rebels.

Wat? I don't see anybody like this for a while, as WWE is PG and so I guess i'll agree that James Storm is the most logical. But, i'm really not too concerned about it.

Billy Kidman-Kazarian-The high flyer that doesnt really have a gimmick. That's simmilar to Kidman. Don't really know why but I see it.

Yes. Yes. Yes. All the way.

Rhyno-Jesse Neal-They have the same finisher and Neal has Rhino's intenstity but he doesn't have Rhino's charisma I must say.

Sure. Rhyno has always been irrelevant for me, so this doesn't reall matter.

Goldust-Orlando Jordan-Goldust isn't gay but with the wigs and robes he made you think he was. Jordan is just straight up Bi so I see a comparison.

Yes and no. Yes, because the way you compare them make sense. No, because there will never be another GoldDust.

Taz-Samoa Joe-Although a bit distinct styles I see the Samoan Submissino Machine being a revamped Human Suplex Machine. This is obvious since comparisons came in when Joe was the Nation of Violence with Taz as manager

Yep. Another fairly obvious one. Although, Roderick Strong with his backbreakers and Taz's suplexs. I can see how there can be a really really weak comparison there.

Chris Jericho-A.J Styles-He could be Jericho if he had Mic Skills. He got Jericho's demeaner and ring skills and their stances are similiar. "The Phenomenal" "Y2J" I see it.

Didn't we already compare Jericho? Answer is still CM Punk.

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka-Kofi Kingston-These men were both energetic high-flying geniuses that as long as their feet were off the ground people were outh of their seats. They both have the islander, foreign gimmick too.

This is the most obvious comparison to Snuka. You never know though, maybe one of the Uso's breaks out and becomes something of a Snuka. Or... Maybe not.

Overall, you had a pretty good list. Only a few disagreements. Interesting idea. :)
