What was the point of Edge's heel turn?

Pestilence

Do dat-uh Funk-eh DANCE!!!!!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who is confused as to why they turned Edge heel again. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe to bring him back to top heel status before Batista leaves?

I really don't get this one...

You've built up Edge as a face for the last two months since his return at the Rumble. You've put him over Jericho less than 24 hours ago. And then, his first night as a member of the Raw roster, you turn him heel by having him screw Orton?

I mean, I understand that with Orton turning face there is one less heel on the roster. But the fact is, with Sheamus being built up rather well the last few months, and Jericho being drafted to Raw, there was no need to do this.

I think they made a big mistake on this one.

I don't think Edge turned heel, I think he was just making a statement. He didn't have that "crazed" look that he normally does when he is heel.

Edge didn't turn heel -- he was just making a statement. Besides, Orton isn't exactly a full-on face; he's a tweener. Orton and Edge do have a history and I guess the WWE is choosing to pit them off against one another to see who comes out the fan favorite. It also adds more competition to the WWE title picture, since as of now, you have Sheamus, Batista, Orton and Edge gunning for Cena's belt.

I also don't think that he turned heel, although he really should. They do need a top level tier and I would prefer Orton be the main tweener, Cena the face, and, even though I'm not a big fan, Edge the heel. Who else could be the lead heel? Sheamus? I still can't help but laugh when I see him and I still don't know who's going to come out when his music starts.

One thing to consider is that Edge has been getting pretty flat reactions as a face in WWE. I don't consider this a heel turn, but WWE are clearly testing the waters with this one. They seem to have chosen to pit Orton against Edge to see who comes out as the fan favorite to face Sheamus (since I feel that he will eventually get the belt back). My guess is that as it stands, it's going to be Orton.

That definitely has to be a heel turn, Orton is the hottest fan favorite at the moment and Edge is gonna get a ton of heat for this, I guess they didn't have anyone for Orton to fued with but with jericho being drafted as well I'm kind of lost. Smackdown seems to be a little light in the top stars department now. I guess we may see something happen in the supplemental draft.

Edge is a natural heel. It also seemed when he came to the stage after he was drafted to RAW that he had sort of a disgusted look on his face.

I'm not completely sure if it's a heel turn or not but I am not against it if it does come to fruition. Edge got his revenge on Jericho and, besides the little kids chanting SPEAR, SPEAR, there really wasn't anything significant about Edge's face turn. I wouldn't be surprised though if Orton became the heel out of this and Edge stayed face. With Randy's personality and the way he acted in his title match last night at Extreme Rules, he seems like the more logical choice to be the heel rather than Edge. Should be interesting to see what comes of this though. All in all, a pretty lackluster draft.

Exactly. This is similar to Randy Orton, who I would say is more "psychotic" than Edge right now. Basically, I am not making any judgments at least until next week's RAW.

I think he's turning heel and its fucking stupid they just brung him back as a face so they're just gonna end his run like this it looked like the whack ass heel edge again and then they put the same wwe championship the animal vs the bitch named John Cena WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW stupid tna did a better job of booking again go RKO

I was sitting there and said....So is he a heel again? and why? then i thought some more...look at the draft...u Have John Cena, HHH, Randy Orton, and Edge as faces...to Batista (leaving soon), Jericho, and Sheamus ....so i think they needed it...put it this one the Golden one aka Cena cant change bad ( i dont know why though) and the fans just wont let HHH back....so its down to Orton and Edge the two best...they said ok Orton is getting bigger pops than Cena and HHH combined...while Edge is getting some cheers...i like it Edge is a great heel right along side Jericho the two best.

The only reason I can see is they wanted no mistake that Orton is a face now. The only way to do that is to have the resident psychopath turn for the 112th time. WTF moment for sure, but it worked.

Well I certainly see a feud developing between Edge and Orton. Edge basically cost Orton the number one contendership. Orton is a crowd favorite and costing him that title opportunity in my eyes is a heel turn. I don't feel we should see a heel turn so quickly though. You can make an argument that Edge is needed to replace Batista as the main heel but don't we have Jericho for that? I don't see the logic to having Edge interfere except to feud with Orton and in which case would definitely make Edge the heel.

I'm pretty happy about it. I really wanted morrison to work as heel on Raw, but this is good too. Though raw's getting a little top heavy. I'm not sure there'll be enough time for some of the less established guys. Even Morrison and Miz r gonna get lost in the shuffle with so many big names on one show. But Smackdown really lucked out here, cause with the biggest names on the brand gone, it leaves a huge hole for guys to get over. Morrison probably would have been better off on Smackdown now that edge is gone.

But edge's turn gives him a few interesting opportunities to work with a few guys like Randy, Morrison, MVP etc. But I'm dreading another cena program. Talk about beating a dead horse.

Ok, look at it this way:

FACES:

John Cena
Randy Orton

HEELS:

Sheamus
Edge
Batista
Chris Jericho

Batista is allegedly leaving soon, Jericho probably won't be part of the title picture, so if this is a full-blown heel turn for Edge, I can understand them doing it. It's not like Edge has been magnificently popular as a face, since he came back from injury and won the Royal Rumble, after all.

The jury is still out on this one. I don't think they are turning him heel though. Yes, there were 2 other people he could have speared and 'screwed over' but we do have to remember that Jericho was also drafted to RAW and Batista is now technically the #1 contender AGAIN, so RAW has now lost any monster heels yet. I think I am going to need to give this one a week or two to see how it plays out before I make my decision. I am definitely confused though.

I really hope Edge is just gunning for everybody, i was VERY dissapointed in the end of raw, it was a pretty good episode, lots of great matches. But Edge and Jericho both moving to raw?!?!? kinda seems like too many robbers, not enough cops.

If it is truly a heel turn, it was pointless then to draft both Edge and Jericho to RAW. The logically reason behind it would be to continue their fued another month or two. But now if Edge really is heel again, it makes the last two months really mean nothing. Had just Edge gotten drafted to RAW, then it'd be a different story.

I still think Orton should have gotten drafted to Smackdown to continue a fued with Swagger, try to get Swagger over more as champ, while keeping Jericho over there too.

The whole draft this year though kind of baffled me. Some of the moves just don't make any sense.

I don't really buy Edge as a face...I think he works a thousand times better as a heel, switching brands is kind of a good time to do that. Especially if they need something to get Orton over as a face...taking on the ultimate opportunist might be a good way to do it. I would have rather seen a feud with Christian, but they seem pretty determined to keep him as far away from the main event as possible, so I guess this is the next best thing.

I don't think that Edge turned heel. He was making a statement as many said. A couple of other things too: 1) If I'm not mistaken, the reports were that Orton wasn't really supposed to go face. The two on one deal just turned out that way. 2) Edge and Orton are both faces on Raw. The same thing would have happened to Christian if they stayed on the same show. There can be NO belief that these two will reform RatedRKO, or it will cause the DX syndrome. Every time one's in trouble as a face, the fans will be chanting for the other until they green light it. This way, Edge makes sure no one forgets about him, and says to the world he won't reteam with Orton. Whether it is a turn is yet to be determined.

Now, I'm not going too instantly assume that he his fully turning heel. There has been instances where a face attacked another face and no heel turn happend. We'll have to wait and see how next week unfolds and so on.

If it is a heel turn, then I really don't see much of a point. His face turn was going quite well, not bad at all. Turning him heel all of a sudden would have little to no point at all, especially when his run as face has only been for a few months. Sure, an Orton vs. Edge fued sounds awesome. I'm not doubting that. Oh well, I'll just wait and see what happens. Hopefully everything goes well.

this summed it up, the wwe title match will probably have a stipulation where if batista looses he is gone, he will loose and then these guys will be the main event at the next ppv....whats it called again....oh yea, fatal 4 way.

Hopefully it's that simple and he was just making a statement instead of turning heel. If he attacks Batista or Sheamus next week, the answer will be transparent. I love Edge as a heel but his face turn was starting to gain some steam as well. As long as Edge stays in the main-event picture, I'll be happy.

what's the point of turnin edge a heel???
a superstar returns from a career threatening injury wins the rumble is a
face now(good move btw)...drafted to raw and all of a sudden he spears
the top face of the brand !?!?!?out of my logic nd also a very bad move.....
i would have actually i loved to watch edge have a rivalry against sheamus nd have a long run as a face superstar......
john morrison could have been better as a heel...hez been great in ECW as a heel since his face turn hasn't been able to draw muh pop from the audience.....again turning edge heel is a bad move
