Flame on.
"Oh, I think (insert name) should be turned heel."
"I think the only thing holding (insert name) back is the fact he's face."
"(Insert name) should be turned heel and pushed."
Shut the fuck up.
I don't know how many times I read something similar to the above phrases a day on these forums. Seriously, it seems like people are simply saying it out of habbit now. Lets take this bit by bit.
(Consistently) active faces:
The Undertaker
Randy Orton
John Cena
Rey Mysterio
The Big Show
Daniel Bryan
Kofi Kingston
R Truth
John Morrison
MVP
Matt Hardy *on his way out
Mark Henry(ish)
The Great Khali(ish)
Evan Bourne(ish)
Kaval(ish)
I have heard people say that John Cena, John Morrison, MVP and Mark Henry need a heel turn, or should have one. That would leave a very few face midcarders and only three top faces, only one of which would be on Raw.
(Consistenely) active heels:
Nexus (6 men)
Sheamus
Edge
The Miz w/Alex Riley
Kane
CM Punk
Dolph Ziggler
Jack Swagger
Codey Rhodes
Drew McIntyre
Alberto Del Rio
Ted DiBiase
Look at the names on that loaded heel midcard. Now picture adding John Morrison, Mark Henry and MVP to it.
There are enough strong young heels at the moment (especially on Smackdown!) Adding more doesn't benefit anyone and at the end of the day there needs to be faces to feud with. Sure, it's easier to get over being heel as opposed to face, but not everyone can get that advantage. Also, if a superstar wants to be big, they have to learn to get over no matter what character they play.
Anyway, that was my rant and here are my questions:
1) Who do you think should be turned heel (if anyone) and why?
2) If these people were turned heel, should anyone be turned face to compensate for the gap they'd leave? If so who, and why?
3. Which current heels do you think would make an effective face?
