What Is To Become Of The ECW Title???

The Roid Rage

Getting Noticed By Management
Here's something that hasn't been mentioned yet. After ECW becomes NXT, what will they do with the ECW title? Will they make a new WWE NXT title or something? What are the plans? And, why haven't they said anything about it thus far? Are they going to keep the ECW title and have it defended on all the shows or something? Or are they going to get rid of it altogether? There are a lot of questions revolving around this new show. What do you think the WWE will do with the existing title? Do you think there is a very high likelihood that they will introduce a new title, or are they more likely to just keep the title where it is?

I would think if you were getting rid of ECW, their title would go right along with it. But do you create a new title? I don't know. A lot of people think there are too many as is. I wouldn't mind seeing a new belt, just because that gives me another on to collect, but would it serve any real purpose to have an NXT title? I haven't heard many details about all of it. Is this just going to be another Superstars or something? I certainly hope they do better than that. Another question would be, will the WWE move more talent to this new show? How big a deal do they want it to be? If they wanted they could make it the new Smack Down in a sense, but does the WWE have the desire to put that much effort into it? Only time will tell. Until then, what do you all think?

I say keep the title around. It still has namesake value. Even though the ECW of the WWE started as a very watered down version of the original ECW in Vince's image, and then, as time went on it became something completely different... fact is that the letters ECW still stand for something.

This is a great opportunity to perhaps at least give the letters ECW a little respect. Maybe the ECW Championship can stick around.

You might ask why? There's Raw and Smackdown!, and there's a US and Intercontinental Title. Where does the ECW title fit in?

How about as a modern day Hardcore title. Except, it's legitimate. It's the ECW Championship. Every match is competed for in Extreme Rules. Who is the king of extreme in the WWE? Bring a new level to the title. It's probably what they should've done right at the start but strayed away from.

The ECW Championship should carry on as a legitimate, well respected Hardcore Championship without any of the stupid gimmicky crap and grimey looking belt that killed that title.

The WWE announcers are always referring to so and so as an ECW Champion. "John Morrison, of course, a former Intercontinental Champion... an ECW Champion." How often do you hear that?

I feel like getting rid of the gold also gives the WWE less ways to tout the credentials of the likes of say, a Jack Swagger.

Swagger is always touted as a former ECW Champion. Without it, they can't tout his as anything but an All American American with a massive losing streak.

Get it?

I think they have not even made up their minds yet. There are a few possible outcomes through, I will go into a couple of things I think they may do.

1. Rename it the hardcore title- Sure it will not be so hardcore anymore, but even still they can give it a try. I am sure they would not go with classic 24 hour rules, but even still it could pay a nice tribute to the ECW brand. Knowing Vince through, this is a big no no. It would be a nice kind of gesture through.

2. Rename it the NXT Generation title- It could work. I mean it would not have to be taken seriously, but it could be a great way of seeing how younger talent can carry a brand. And it would help if it had this name instead of the ECW, because it is a recognizable name, where as if you fail with this one, it won't be remembered as much.

3. Just disband the title altogether- This is something I don't want to see happen. I don’t know, I just think that during most of my viewing experience although it is not what people recall, it was just always there you know.

The real question is where does this leave Christian , I mean he has been along long enough to not be considered Next generation and he has just had a pretty great ECW title run? This is a big question for us to be answered.

This I can see happening. This would be a great way to push the younger talent and giving them credibility without shoving them onto the bigger shows and sticking them in midcard hell (a la Evan Bourne or Jack Swagger on Raw).

This is a good question. If WWE does indeed scrap the ECW title and replace it with a NXT Generation title, I don't see Christian holding that title. Perhaps WWE will finally move him to one of the bigger two shows (presumably Smackdown as I don't see how he would fit on Raw). He's had a great run as ECW Champion and has done an excellent job putting over the newer talent on ECW but it's time that he moved on to bigger, better things.

I would love to see Rhino come in and burn it like he did the old ECW title in TNA a few years ago. Christian should come out and give a speech honoring that past ECW champions like Tommy Dreamer and the originals. Then they should just retire it. There is too many titles anyways. If the show is about the future WWE Superstars, Christian should leave the show and go to Smackdown.

Superstars doesn't have a world title, why should NXT have a world title? There are too many. They should just have a wrestling show with the new talents and leave it at that.

Here is what I would pitch if I had the chance: I think Christian has had one of the best runs (if not THE best) in the history of the ECW title (WWE version, original ECW not included). Give him the glory of finishing out ECW with the title. Send him to Smackdown and have him unify the title with the IC title. It adds some prestige to the IC title (which is historically what WWE mid-card titles are unified with when they go away) and Christian could have a feud with Drew McIntyre. McIntyre would benefit from a back-and-forth program with Christian, who always makes his opponents look good, and Christian would be on the same show as Edge for an eventual tag-team reunion or feud, either of which would be very popular.

I don't where this plan would leave NXT since we don't really know that many details about the show yet. Maybe NXT wrestlers will be competing for a spot on the main roster, making a title pointless.

i think that they will retire the title. I don't see why the would keep it around, if the brand isn't even going to be around anymore. It would be very dishonorable and bury the three letters more than they already have been buried.
If anything, they should just announce a new title for Superstars, if they are going to have a new one for NXT.:lmao:

You ask some interesting questions, so here are my thoughts on each.

After ECW becomes NXT, what will they do with the ECW title? Will they make a new WWE NXT title or something?

I think the ECW belt will be retired. This new show should hopefully be a "true" developmental show and not a third brand, so no belt.

What are the plans? And, why haven't they said anything about it thus far?

The plans might not be finalized yet, there are still about 3 weeks left before the NXT show begins, they might be working out the details as we speak and that's why we haven't heard much yet.

Are they going to keep the ECW title and have it defended on all the shows or something?

I really hope not. The only title available on multiple shows right now should be the Unified Tag Team Belts, otherwise every single belt should exclusive to a specific show.

Or are they going to get rid of it altogether?

That's what I think. The ECW belt should be retired when ECW ends. It makes perfect sense to me.

Do you think there is a very high likelihood that they will introduce a new title, or are they more likely to just keep the title where it is?

I really hope not. Calling someone the "Next Generation Champion" or even worse the NXT (enn-ex-tee) Champion sounds even weirder. I can see it happening that they simply rename the ECW title to either the NXT Championship or the Next Generation Championship if they are even keeping it around at all.

Is this just going to be another Superstars or something?

That's the best outcome actually. A superstars type show with an emphasis on the new talent initiative of ECW. It shouldn't be a brand, but having a developmental show is still a good idea. Best of both worlds.

will the WWE move more talent to this new show?

Again, I hope not. Everyone should be assigned to either Raw, Smackdown, or the developmental's. This show shouldn't be a third brand, it should pick up where Heat and Velocity left off while focusing more on newcomers.

How big a deal do they want it to be?

Probably about as big a deal as ECW was, below Raw and Smackdown but above Superstars in terms of importance.

If they wanted they could make it the new Smack Down in a sense, but does the WWE have the desire to put that much effort into it?

I'm not quite following here. Why would they make a new Smackdown? There is already a "B" show, this show would be replacing the "C" show. I highly doubt that they have the desire to put that much effort into it honestly.

Until then, what do you all think?

To sum things up.... I think the ECW belt will be retired, the ECW roster will get promoted to Raw or Smackdown while some newcomers stick around, new developmental wrestlers will be called up to appear on the show, it will be similar to Superstars but focused on newcomers. This is what makes sense to me because ECW failed as a third brand and WWE never really needed a third brand to begin with, but they can get a lot of good use out of keeping a developmental show so fans can see someone before they get promoted to the main roster(s).

To be honest, it hadn't even occured to me that this will be a big deal. I imagine that Christian will drop the title to Ezeikel Jackson and move on. He and Benjamin will go on to MITB qualifiers and Goldust will be off TV until the draft, and then the show will be exactly the same as it is now. The title will change it's name to the NXT title, and all will carry on regardless. I really don't see this as much of a big deal.

I think the ECW title should just be done away with. I'm a huge fan of the old school ECW and to be honest, this whole ECW thing from the beggining has been nothing but an insult to what ECW was. So please, let ECW rest in peace and just retire the belt.

The idea of having a new title for NXT could go either way I think. It might not be needed and it could also be a huge help. The whole idea of the new show seems to be getting new talent over. With the idea of a title for it could be something that is just the extra edge needed for a wrestler to convince the fans they have what it takes, or it could be a total waste of time because nobody will take it seriously because of the fact that the show is made up of up and coming talent. I guess it all depends on if the fans take the whole scheme of the show seriously or not.

If Vince is scrapping the ECW brand, he's definately going to scrap the ECW belt.

I'm shocked though that they havent even hinted yet about what they are going to do. My guess is that Christian will just come out, give some sort of speech, and retire the belt on national tv, and the next time we see him, it'll be on Smackdown/RAW and he'll no longer have the belt. They are not going to do anything big or elaborate for the title, they'll just simply put on a little act for the camera and then we'll never see it again.

If they want to continue Christians momentum though, I definately think the best thing to do is have him win MITB.

I'd turn the Title into an Extreme Rules Title, keep the name, and have ti defended at every PPV, One Raw guy vs a SD Guy, and have it competetive as to which brand holds the king of Extreme.

and it gives fans who miss extreme matches a bit of extreme, and doesn't over do it like the extreme rules ppv did.

The ECW title won't stick around for long after Feb. 23rd. I then expect Christian to get into a feud with one of the Champs (whether it be WWE, WHC, Intercontinental or US, although his match with Sheamus might have been a sign of things to come) from the show he signs with. Christian's feud will eventually lead to a title vs title match which will unify the ECW title, essentially getting rid of it.

Personally i think one of the two should happen:

1. Rename it the hardcore title. I would also make tri-branded. This would give guys like chavo, masters, bourne, henry, primo, haas, ziggler, finlay, wang yang, hardy, khali, and knox a chance at a Non-major title. Plus, it would offer some comic relief if Hornswoggle, Slam Master J, Kung Fu Naki, or Santino won it too.

2. Just cancel the title all together. I'm going to put my money on this one because WWE needs to stop disgracing the letters ECW. I also personally think that WWE should make an NXT Title it'll help rank the superstars on the show i also think they should have tag titles for it too-bcuz if u read my NXT Rosters post it'll give guys like barreta & croft, Slam Master & Wang Yang, and Cryme Tyme titles w/o seperating them.

There's no reason to rename it the Hardcore Title, or to have it be contested under "wwextreme rule" simply because wwextreme sucks. Bad. Their ladder matches, or TLC or HITC matches are usually good, but once you start putting the fake loking road signs and the garbage cans that fold up like single use roasting pans, they look fake. Very fake. And no blood on TV. What's the point. People switching channels will think "oh they're hitting each other with aluminum foil again" and scoff and keep switching. Hardcore on WWE is dead.

I keep the ecw belt and make all championship matches for it hardcore rules only.
then I would have a nxt belt so the new talent would have something to shoot for. the wwe could use some hardcore matches to boost thier ratings and make the show more enjoyable for us adults instead of this pg stuff there doing now.

if anyone hasn't read, the final ECW will have an extreme rules match for the ECW Title. Christian vs Ezekiel Jackson. So it seems like they are keeping the title like the 'hardcore title'.

What i think will happen, is Christian defends the title, goes to one of the other brands, & start a feud with another wrestler. Then have a match with them at Wrestlemania. I'm not gonna go any farther, since it doesnt have to do with this forum.

I think this is the right way to go. Give a lot of the unused mid card something to do & keep the ECW title alive and have it be competed at every PPV in extreme rules. If this dosent happen however i would turn it into a NXT Title but i doubt this will happen since it will be stupid to have a title match then have them retire the title on the same night.

Personally, I think that there are several ways this could go:

Scenario 1: Christian and Ezekiel have a brutal and fun Extreme Rules match, with Christian picking up the hard-won victory, ready to move up to RAW or Smackdown with a lot of momentum. He can keep the ECW title, and transition to the main event, eventually winning the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship and unifying the two belts.

Scenario 2: Ezekiel Jackson will win and create the NXT Championship, making him the big deal and top rookie on WWE's new show. All the new guys will have to train and face off with each other in a tournament-style show, with the winner getting a shot at Jackson on the NXT season finale.

Scenario 3: Christian wins, and the belt is quietly retired.

Quite honestly, I like Scenario 2 the best. This would be a boost for big Zeke and would keep Regal doing something constructive (managing and developing talent). As much as I like Regal, I don't want to see him in another Title hunt.

But to get back on topic here... I would LOVE to see them re-introduce the Cruiserweight title in place of the ECW title. If there's one belt and one division that needs to be resurrected, it's the cruiserweights. Chavo, Santino, Mysterio, Bourne...these guys deserve their time to shine. You could include guys that are up and coming like Beretta and Croft, or guys that have been around a while...it really doesn't matter. But I do know when you put Evan Bourne against Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, SHEAMUS, he's going to lose or pull out a quick LUCKY win. He cannot hang with a near 300lbs+ monster. He's barely 180lbs himself. Hell, I could manhandle him in the ring.

NXT should have titles, and if they do it up as its own "league" of wrestling, they could very well have a World Title, Tag Titles and TV Title. It all depends on how deep they build their rosters and how much effort they put into it. I can see them even having their own Royal Rumble or MITB style match at a PPV to see who gets elevated to one of the two big shows.
