What Happens With Sting At Wrestlemania?

Occasional Pre-Show
I think the main event for me and many other people for this year's Wrestlemania is Sting vs Triple H. I don't think we really care how good the match is but more about seeing Sting in a WWE ring and getting his well deserved Wrestlemania moment. So the question is what happens with the match itself? Who goes over and what happens from there? The way I see it there are 3 scenarios.

1 Sting wins and never wrestles again. I'm ok with this option even though Sting has another year or two in him. If this option occurs then the Icon Sting is undefeated at Wrestlemania and should cement his name in the top 5 of all time.

2 Sting wins and wrestles until next Wrestlemaia where he loses. I think this is a great idea as well. Sting beats Triple H and wrestles a few more matches this year. I still think putting the title on Sting for a month or so would be a great idea. He could work with Rollins, Wyatt, a heel Reigns or even drop the belt to Triple H later in the year. I think the perfect ending to this scenario is Sting putting over Undertaker at Wrestlemania 32 in a retirement match in front of over 100,000 fans.

3 Sting loses and never wrestles again. Stupid. Just plain stupid. What would be the point of this? To bury WCW again? WCW is already dead. Sting already has a huge fanbase and his silent supernatural character appeals to kids who don't know him from WCW. I know Triple H has lost quite a few matches at Wrestlemania the past few years but Triple H probably has another 6 or 7 years left. Triple H's current losing streak at Wrestlemania could even be the point of a face turn later this year. I honestly think bringing in Sting just to job to Triple H would be one of the few things that would make me not watch the product. It would be a stupid business decision and based on ego alone.

I've been mulling this match over in my mind for quite some time now, and I still can't get why people legitimately feel as though Sting is not going over at Mania. Now, it is worth saying that I am a huge Triple H fan; I have been my whole wrestling tenure. But there is absolutely no sense in having him go over; none at all.

Sting is the draw here, not Triple H. You know how pissed people would be having Sting lose at perhaps his only WrestleMania? Jesus, it would be like watching Taker lose to Brock all over again. A result like this will kill the crowd stone dead and kill the match immediately after it. Horrible, horrible decision. And Triple H has absolutely no issue with doing the job should it be best for business. Look at last year, he made Bryan look like a star, like him or not. He realises just as much as everyone else that Sting needs to go over.

What's more, it's time that the Authority to unravel. With Rollins probably going to lose, Triple H going down and Reigns presumably taking the Championship, now is the time to start winding down this chapter of the WWE and planning for the future. Sting and Taker will likely be the main event for next year's WrestleMania, so both of them need to win to have any credibility at all.

The only reason on God's green Earth I can think why they would want to have Sting lose at WM31 is that they're setting up a second match.....or even a series of matches, with Triple H..................and why they'd want to do that is beyond me, as well as why they would think the fans would care to see it.

Then, there's the factor of WWE not wanting a wrestler to suffer a defeat because it would stall his push, or damage his rep. For instance, some folks on this forum are actually saying Bray Wyatt can't lose to Undertaker because Bray can't afford the loss.

Well, whether or not you buy that logic in concern to Bray Wyatt, it sure doesn't apply to Triple H. Professionally, whether he wins or loses at WM31, he's still a corporate officer and part owner of WWE. That he's available to occasionally step in the ring in a high profile match is a terrific thing......but he can lose to Sting, take a shower......and go to the cash register to count the night's receipts. Whether he pays himself a performer's share for the event is a matter to take up with the Board of Directors, of which Paul Levesque is a member in good standing, thank you very much.

How good a match this will be is anyone's guess, but both guys know how to work and can probably generate a fine crowd reaction based on their presence alone. Somehow, though, I think their combined ability to deliver a fine contest will make this worth watching.

Sting wins at WM31.

I think that Sting will win at Mania and as a result of the win the "board" will give him some power so that we get a heel/face GM situation in 2015 with Trips/Steph and Sting much like Austin/Bischoff from back in the day. That will probably last until like SummerSlam or Survivor Series where we get the rematch for full control that Trips probably ends up winning. From there, Sting probably gets one last match at Mania 32 to end his wrestling career.

In a perfect world, A Sting "one and done" match where he wins and rides off into the sunset would be the best outcome. Strangely enough, Trips always holds grudges. The idea that he still wants to put the screws to an organization that's been dead for more than a decade wouldn't surprise me. Hunter talks bad about Hulk Hogan, but if he gets Sting in a WWE ring to settle a score that truly interests no one but himself, wouldn't he be playing Hogan's role in that abysmal "rematch" he had with Warrior at WCW Halloween Havoc 1990-whatever it was?

1. Sting wins & isn't seen till roughly February 2016.

2. Sting wins & makes the occasional appearance, possibly a match or two (Summerslam & Survivor Series?) before re-appearing at the start of the Road to Mania 32.

Either way, I'm convinced he faces Taker at Mania 32. Taker's redemption is Bray, the final chapter is Sting.

I think Sting is going to have a much bigger role in the WWE after Wrestlemania. Whether it be as a corporate character or an in-ring competitor, I see Sting still wanting to participate after Mania 31. Imo, I think your option 2 is the route that WWE and Sting are most likely to take, as it would be plain ridiculous for HHH to go over Sting and I really can't see this being Sting's last appearance in the WWE.

I think we'll see Sting go over at Mania, and than go over HHH again at either ER or Payback with the ownership of the WWE on the line. Vince will probably pop up eventually as well. I hope Sting still goes for another year... It would be great to see him in the ring with guys such as Rollins, Wyatt, Taker, etc.

He wins for 2 big reasons:

1) It legitimizes his place in the Hall of Fame going forward

2) Based on the insane reaction he gets with each appearance, which WWE has to notice, it more easily allows him to re-sign for future dates if for nothing more than a quick in-ring beatdown (not even full matches) to aid storylines... (i.e. The Authority never knows when the vigilante Sting will show up to ruin their master plan)....

him losing at WrestleMania just ends him once and for all and closes all future doors

Sting wins, and I think it's safe to say he will be doing more for WWE after WM31. If the Trips bout were indeed his retirement match, they'd have hyped it as such to maximize buys. WM32 is in the home state of both Sting and Undertaker, and looks like an ideal site to stage the dream match. Melzter wrote in WON two or three weeks ago that this was the plan.

Between WM31 and WM32, I think we'll see Sting wrestle here and there. It's quite feasible we'll see him team with Orton to take on The Authority at Extreme Rules. A singles bout with Rollins at SummerSlam has been rumoured, and would make Sting look a million bucks while giving Rollins the rub. Wyatt has been pushing for a Sting match in media interviews. Vince probably won't be able to resist giving Cena a win over Sting at some point.
