What album did you just buy?

Bentallica

Work in progress
I was gonna call this the CD thread, but since people to download full albums off of iTunes, I went for a name change. In this thread, tell us the last album you bought and your initial thoughts after your first listen.

I've been on a Metallica CD buying binge lately, so I'll just name off the 6 albums I've purchased since December:

Master Of Puppets
Death Magnetic
...And Justice For All
Metallica (The Black Album)
ReLoad
Kill 'Em All

All 6 are very good in their own ways, I think my least favorite would probably be ReLoad, seeing how most of the tracks are forgettable. I think my favorite would be a three way tie between Puppets, DM, and Kill 'Em All.

So, go ahead and discuss all your new purchases.

In all honesty I almost never buy music any more so for me the last album I down loaded was a Bad Brains discography because all my old cassettes sound absolutely terrible these days. Obviously I prefer their Hardcore stuff but I appreciate their later reggae stuff as well. They are very talented and were a major influence when I was learning to play music as a teen.

The last album I bought was Only Through The Pain by Trapt.

I have all their other CDs, and bought this one because of Who's Going Home With You Tonight, but the entire CD lived up to expectations. As what usually happens when you buy a CD for one song, it happened to be the worst on the CD. It's a great track, but it's definitely not the best. It's one of the few CDs you can put on, and listen to beginning to end with no interruptions...

My last purchase was "Rob Zombie: Past, Present, and future" and it was an excellent purchase. Its basically a greatest hits CD, with 4 unreleased tracks at the end. Zombie, being one of my three favorite artists, was a must to have a compliation of. I have been listening to the CD pretty much non stop since I got it, as it has ALL the god jams on it. If your a fan at all, go pick this up. It also comes with a DVD with something like 10 music videos on it, which im fairly disinterested in but anyways. If you like Zombie, go get it.

I have bought a few CD's in the last few weeks just because alot of stores have them on clearance. The last 3 I bought(all at the same time)were Kanye West's "808's & Heartbreak"(even though I already downloaded it), Beyonce "I am Sasha Fierce", and Nas "Untitled". All 3 cost me 17 dollars from Zellers and all 3 are pretty good.

I am a huge Kanye fan and although it has been noted that I usually hate autotuner, I really like Kanye's new album. It's selling very well and the singles are doing very well. I don't like it more than Graduation, Late Registration, or College Dropout, but it is another solid album from the self acclaimed, "voice of the generation". A-

Download: Paranoid: Kanye West fea. Jenifer Hudson
Skip: See you in my nightmare

Beyonce's album was another one I picked up. The clearance bin didn't have alot of good new releases, so I got Beyonce's newest CD. Like Kanye her album and songs are selling like hotcakes and radio is spinning her newest singles. I thought the CD was fine, not for everyone that's for sure. It was pop, R&B, dance so if you don't like thoes genres this CD isn't for you. B+

Download: Ego
Skip: Smash into you

Nas' newest debut(released in April)was solid but not as good as "Hip/Hop is Dead". Nas is one of the best rappers in the game, and he can effectively go from singing club bangers to meaningful hip/hop songs. Some of his songs feel dated, but it was a pretty good rap album. B-

Download: Hero fea. Keri Hilson
Skip: Y'all my Nigg*s

I haven't bought a CD for ages. I believe the last CD I bought was Coldplay's Viva La Vida, and it was definately worth the money. It's a great CD, and anyone can listen to it and like it. And you know how usually you buy a CD for one song and then you end up liking only two or three other songs on the CD? Well with this CD, I loved every track. Great CD to listen to and chill out, and just think. Not their best work, X&Y was phenomenal, but still a great album by a great band.

Last album I purchased was by Reggie and the Full Effect and it was 'Greatest Hits 1984 - 1987' the 2004 re issue of the album and it comes with unreleased stuff which was pretty cool. Even though it says Greatest Hits 1984 - 1987, it is actually their first album, the album title was made as a joke.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_Hits_1984-1987

It's an album that is very weird, so I don't know if many people would be able to get into Reggie and the Full Effect with that album, I'd recommend listening to 'Songs Not To Get Married To' first.

The re issue comes with a weird cover of Slayer's Raining Blood, which I like, but not many people would I don't think. It's heavily dominated by keyboards and stuff at the start.

I didn't just buy it, but a new album that I have is Folklore And Superstition by Black Stone Cherry. It's a great CD from beginning to end, and really brings rock back to it's roots. Each instrument is played expertly, and you can almost feel the energy from the band coming through the music.

If you ever have a chance to see them live, please do. They are exciting to watch, and love to feed off the crowd...

Yesterday I bought about 20 CD's. Not for any particular reason, mostly because Music Zone is cheap as chips. I got about 10 Iron Maiden discs, because I hadn't got them and they were cheap. I bout a wrestling themes album for £1, it's shite. I got some really cheap metal and I was surprised to find that Music Zone stocked an Angry Aryans CD. Total with dead black people on the cover. Intresting. I also bough the Katy Perry & The Saturdays album, mostly because I want to fuck them.

I've recently bought a few c.d.'s. Some good, some bad, some lived above and beyond expectations, some didn't even live beyond the single-hit they were selling the album for..

Nickelback: Dark Horse: I couldn't wait to buy this album mainly because I've been a huge Nickelback fan since before they were "popular". Unfortunately, this is the album that falls into the "couldn't live beyond the single they were selling it for" category.

About roughly four songs of this 11 track c.d. were worth it and rememberable. Those songs are. "Burn it to the Ground", "Gotta Be Somebody", "I'd Come for You", and "Never Gonna Be Alone".

The one glaring issue I have with this c.d., is it sounds like the members of Nickelback were on a sex-break, as roughly all of the songs it seems are in reference to getting some. The truly sad thing is, they basically said they hoped this album would out-do their previous one. Well, if it does.. I would be willing to suggest their next one won't, in fear of everyone being massively disappointed even worse.

Hinder: Take It To The Limit: This is a c.d. that's taken a turn for me. Mind you, it wasn't actually a c.d. I purchased for myself.. as more of a Birthday gift for my Wife. She loves Hinder.

I liked their first c.d., and originally when I first heard all of this one, I thought it was shit. But the weird thing is, the more I listen to it, the more I begin falling in love with it. I can't exactly answer why either, I just know it's a great c.d. to listen to when playing Madden. :lmao:

Staind: Illusion of Progress: Without a doubt, this is my stand-out c.d. thus far of 2009. (granted we're not even a month in) When I purchased this c.d., it was for one song.. and like someone above who mentioned that you normally fall for the entire c.d., on the whem of buying it for a single song.. that's what happened here for me.

Two songs namely off this c.d. have become new, all-time favorites and retrospective themes for my life. They are "All I Want", and "Tangled Up In You".

Def Leppard: Vault; Def Leppard's Greatest Hits: Truth be told, I bought this c.d. for one song and one song alone. "When Love & Hate Collide". What's worse, I bought it in the belief that their original single would song just as great, if not greater than their newer duet w/ Taylor Swift. I was wrong.

It's Taylor Swift that actually makes me fall in love with this song. And thus, I sadly spent an undue amount of $10.00. While the c.d. in all has all the original Def Leppard classics I'm used to, I likely wouldn't of bought it, had I of been able to listen to the song I wanted if for, pre-hand.
-------------

For the Future: There is the new Trapt c.d. that someone above mentioned. I'm highly interested in purchasing that. As well as the newest Theory of a Deadman c.d.

I go tas gifts Black Ice by AC/DC and the long awaited and underated Chinese Democracy I saw very little was wrong with G N' R's new album Shackler's revenge was very good. Black Ice was pure AC/DC. Want Death Magnetic and Saints of Los Angeles.

The last album I bought was Pedal To The Metal by Blessed By A Broken Heart. It is such a fun album to listen to. They are a metalcore band with crazy 80 glam metal riffs. It is full of sing along chorus and vicious breakdowns.

In the next few weeks, the only CDs I know I'm getting are the new A Day To Remember and New Found Glory Cds.

The Killer's latest one. And i hate to say it but I am disappointed. I can't beliave it, they make to Huge Albums I absoloutley love then make this album, that with the exception of just one song, sound the same. Skipping through the songs it makes me feel like it just consists of two tracks. Human, and then all the rest of them as one. Its basically the same tune, Stlye of vocals and story line. Lets just hope when they bring a new one out they lean it more in the direction of the first album and the upbeat they had.

Who knows it might grow on me but it isnt an Instant Classic.

I bought Ice Cube's new cd Raw Footage which was a great cd. Not as great as his classic shit but great none the less. I did also buy T.I.'s album Paper Trail which I believe is his greatest cd he made. There is probably not 1 song on there that sucked & it's too bad he will be going to the bacon factory soon.

My last purchase was "Rob Zombie: Past, Present, and future" and it was an excellent purchase. Its basically a greatest hits CD, with 4 unreleased tracks at the end.

Alright this is the part where I get nitpicking and come admittedly across as a bit of an ass, but but only the last two songs were unreleased, Pussy Liquor is off of the House of 1000 Corpse soundtrack, and Blitzkrieg Bop is off of a Romones tribute album called We're A Happy Family: A Tribute To The Ramones, that aside yes it is a very good album especially since they added Black Sunshine, which is easily my favorite Zombie song

It's been awhile since I've felt any desire to go out and get new music, but I think the last full album I got was by a band prolly no here as even heard of called These Arms Are Snakes- Tail Swallower and Dove, despite the somewhat odd name they are actually a pretty good band, especially considering the fact that they aren't signed to a major label, they have fast, somewhat heavy yet still a bit unique sound that I like, mainly because it doesn't sound exactly like everything else you hear on the radio these days

As most people here don't really know me all that well that do not know I have a very very strange relationship - I like every type of music but I'm very picky with the bands I like within the genres

anyways... Albums I got lately

Groove Coverage - Greatest Hits
I got in to Groove coverage a few years ago after hearing their cover of "poison" - Alice Cooper on an old Clubland CD, I then heard God is a Girl and 7 years & 50 Days and loved both - I think sometimes European Dance is soo much better then anything else out there and Groove Coverage is a group who are consistently excellent. I had a lot of fun earlier driving around listening to the album

Live Lounge Vol. 3
I love the live lounge as it forces a lot of groups out of their comfort zone - I listened to a track on the live lounge the other day and it was "The Saturdays" doing a cover and although I didn't care much for them before, now I quite like them. Stand out tracks on this album are obviously Leona Lewis covering Snow patrols 'Run' but also McFly's cover of 'I kissed a girl' and the Foo Fighters cover of The Arcade Fire's "Keep the Car Running" - a versatile album that can go on in the car or in the evening when I'm chilling out

Dizzee Rascal - Maths & English
I'm a big fan of Dizzee's earlier work (I loved 'I luv u') but I found his later work a little too poppy but listening to Maths & English brought it all back. The beats are very old school and the lyrics are as always top notch

Since I am a country music fan. My last purchase was Taylor Swifts new album "Fearless". Damn can this girl write a song and sing. For her age she is multi talented. Every song on the CD is good. My favorite being the song "White Horse". A song about this guy not being her night in shining armor even though she wants him to be. Its good stuff.

Although I might want to get the new Shinedown CD next. Ive heard most of it and I think its awesome so that migh just be m next purchase.

Well, I didn't exactly purchase it, but the most recent album I got was the Guns n Roses one. And it really isn't as great as it was hyped up to be. I guess when you have an album promoted for 15 years you might be disapointed with the outcome. The only songs I really liked on it were Chinease Democracy, Shackler's Revenge, Better and I.R.S. Another one I got was the AC/DC album which was the opposite. It was just like the old stuff and I love it. Album of the year I think. It has some awesome songs and Rock n Roll Train is a great song that is probably going to be remembered as one of AC/DCs greatest.

The most recent album i bought was Folie a Deux by Fall Out Boy. Yeah i know its fun to bash them but i've liked them ever since "take this to your grave". I like folie a deux because the songs while having a nice mixture of upbeat power pop and power ballads, convey a message throughout the album, which is talking about the state of society and our obsession with ourselves and the superficial aspects of our lives. If you get past the stigma that comes with listening or admitting to listening to FOB, i'm sure anyone who is a fan of catchy tunes and lyrics with some wit and meaning would find this album apealling at the least if not good.

The last time I bought one was Chris Brown " Exclusive" and Bow Wow and Omarion " Face off". I honestly don't buy them that much at all. The reason I bought these ones was because they were on a really good sale 2 for $15 dollars or something. I know you guys might think I only like hip hop and only like "black music" ( btw that is not racist, name one right guy that sings hip hop) but I only like those people from hip hop. I am actually thinking about buying the new Staind album.

I got the new Lily Allen CD today :) And while I know that this isn't the type of music people on here love, the CD is brilliant. Unlike other british divas like Amy, Corrine, Natasha, Leona, ect Lily's strong part isn't her voice, it's her light hearted persona and songs. She won't just do a sappy baland and a bunch of generic beats/drumming she'll do a unique brand of pop.

I have only listned to the album once(and I skipped a few songs)but the higlight for me is "Fuck You". It's instantly catchy and fun, and it has a nice little message:)) ) in it behind the fun beats and curse words. It is doing pretty well on Itunes(top 30)and the album looks to debut either #1 or #2 in the US with about 70k which is amazing(and it's going to top the UK charts). The album is a solid effort from the forgotten brit artist, and I would reconmend people to listen to "Fuck You".

B+

The Most recent CD's I've bought?

1) Forgiven, Not Forgotten and Talk on Corners- the Corrs
2) Chimera-Mayhem (band)
3) Drunken Lullabies- Flogging Molly

The reason for the difference in Styles is simply because I cannot listen to black metal without getting seriously depressed, so I listen to the Corrs to lighten my mood, and Flogging Molly I bought for parties. I strongly suggest all these bands for any CD collection, you won't regret any of them.:lsabre:
