The Nintendo DS has become the UK's best selling console, eclipsing the 10.02 million PlayStation2 sales that previously held the record.
Fiugures released from Chart Track reveals that the popular handheld has recently passed sales of 10.07 million units since its UK launch on March 11th 2005. That figure equates to approximately one in six people, and passes the PS2's record in nearly half the time.
Well done Nintendo, we're sure you're very proud of the humble little device that everybody believed was doomed to failure from the start.
Personally, I cannot believe that Nintendo have managed to pass the record for most consoles sold in Britain. The PS2 was a huge console and at one point, I could have asked any persona t my school and every single on of them would have had a PS2. However, Nintendo have done something very clever and have managed to sell the DS to not only kids but to everyone. Their marketing strategy has been flawless and they have really worked hard at making their brand a family friendly one. Dr Kawashima's brain training has been absolutely massive and is not segregated by age. Nintendo have adapted to the video games climate and have managed to smash record upon record. This is a tremendous achievement and Nintendo deserve it.
What do you guys think about this record and how do you think it will affect Nintendo in the future?Does it mean much or is it just one of many?
