Mars is without a doubt the planet most observed in the solar system (outside of Earth) by man since day dot.

Mars has two moons, both discovered in 1877. Even Moons on Saturn were discovered before this...does that not strike you as odd?

I knew that Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. They're bassicaly asteroids that got caught in Mars' orbit. I knew they were discovered in the late 1800's by Asaph Hall, I remember the name because his first name is epic. but I didn't know the exact date they were discovered.
