Based on a best-selling novel and brought to life by suspenseful storyteller M. Night Shyamalan ("The Sixth Sense"), WAYWARD PINES is an intense, mind-bending 10-episode thriller starring Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon ("Crash") as a Secret Service agent on a mission to find two missing federal agents in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID. Every step closer to the truth makes him question if he will ever get out of Wayward Pines alive. The all-star cast also includes Academy and Emmy Award winner Melissa Leo ("The Fighter"), Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard ("Crash," "Hustle & Flow"), Carla Gugino ("Entourage"), Shannyn Sossamon ("How to Make It in America"), Toby Jones (the "Harry Potter" franchise) and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Juliette Lewis ("Cape Fear").

The series premiered last Thursday, and after two episodes I'm hooked. Hopefully, Wayward Pines will maintain its momentum as an ominous, mysterious, and thought-provoking mystery/thriller series.

I was kind of surprised they killed off Juliette Lewis’s character in the second episode. Beverly was in the mix for one of the major characters on the show, so it’s easy to jump to the foregone conclusion for Beverly having a long run to the season finale.

I know Wayward Pines is based on a book, and I guess M. Night Shyamalan’s name is the main reason for this, but I can see a few similarities between WP and The Village. You know, brainwashed residents living in a secluded town with dark secrets, and going beyond the wall (or into the woods for The Village) is forbidden, because you’re walking into a deathtrap, if you cross the off-limits line.

As far as the casting goes, I won’t go as far as perfect, but I don’t see any real problems. Ethan Burke is tailor-made for Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo is a nice fit for the perky and nutty nurse character, and I don’t have any real complaints for Terrence Howard as the town sheriff.

Is anyone else watching or interested in Wayward Pines?

So far so good. Even if it is M. Night. Shamalamadingdong its good because as I understanded it follows book and events like there are in it.

I could draw a parallel with one simillar abysmal show that didnt do that: "Under The Dome". In "Under The Dome" events are far from book. And even if book is great(read it, its one of Stephen Kings best) series goes in abysmal route. And it wouldnt be that bad if they just wraped it better. But no, it just goes in abysmal direction after few episodes. In this case(Wayward Pines) its different and I liked it. Just dont see how would they go beyond for season 2 because as I understanded all book events are covered in season 1 but I am even willing to settle if its just one great season instead of just going beyond books in abysmal way. Though it looks great as it started. Good characters and star actors, great mystery and story behind it at least guarantees fun for this season of the show if not even further. :)

Agreed. It wouldn't surprise me, if Wayward Pines received the green light for a second season, because episode 2 gained a noticeable bump in the ratings after the series premiere. Still, if they're covering everything from the source material in season one, I don't like the idea of stretching and improvising for a second season.

They're only two episodes in, and they've already revealed a good amount of secrets about Wayward Pines. Now, you get the impression they're shifting the focus of the story to Ethan devising a plan B to escape, Ethan solving the mystery behind the staged ( I think) car accident, and Ethan uncovering the truth behind the people, who are pulling the strings.

Ten episodes and one season should be more than enough to wrap everything up, and a second season just reeks of overkill, when you look at the big picture.
