Pixar's tenth feature film, Up, directed by Pete Docter, made history, becoming the second animated motion picture ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (A.M.P.A.S.). Up is also the first entirely computer-generated film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

This statement from director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera regarding Up's five Academy Award nominations:

"We are humbled and grateful to the Academy. Being nominated among these remarkable animated films is such an amazing privilege. On top of that, to be honored as one of the best pictures of the year is just mind-blowing. It’s truly been a long, wonderful ride getting here, and with all sincerity it really does feel like we’re floating on air."

To show my support look at the sig below. lol

It really is a pehnomonal movie. Everything about is jsut purely amazing. The characters, the animation, everything is just loveable and perfect. It may very well be the dark horse for Best Picture, as it very well deserves it.

What was the first? Toy Story or something like that?

No, it was Beauty and the Beast.

and i completely forgot about District 9. That too was a penomonal movie. I'd have it in a tie with Up for my favorite movie of the year, even though it won't win. District 9 is the most underrated movie of the year by far.

I wouldn't say that but I guess it depends who you're asking. Critics loved it, it has a huge internet following, had a big opening weekend and made over 200 mil worldwide. The only people I know who said it was bad were people who have no taste in movies and are probably watching Dear John as I type this...

Beauty and the Beast?!?!

And Lion King didn't get nominated ever?

Not for Best Picture. And there was still no Best Animated Feature category when it came out so it couldn't get nominated for that either. I guess the Animated Feature category is what has been blocking most animated movies from getting into the big category ever since. The 10 Best Picture spots really worked to Up's advantage.

My neighbor has awful taste. They were going to see a movie and it was Sherlock or The Tooth Fairy. She thought the Tooth Fairy would be a better movie. She liked it. How's that for bad taste.

It won the Best Score and Song Oscars (Can You Feel The Love Tonight), Circle of Life and Hakuna Mataka were nominated for best song too.

Ah. Bitches.

Apparently The Tooth Fairy wasn't that horribly shitty. Shitty, but not horribly so.

The equivalent of shit when compared to Sherlock. And I just watched Inglorious Bastards today, is that nominated for anything. Good movie that made me laugh and other parts made me want to puke.

...That's Tarantino for you.

They showed him cutting the swastika into his head. The flaps of skin were disgusting. But it was to a Nazi so I was ok with it.

Oh Razor haven't you heard? Dear John is the story of a couple who fall in love but are ripped apart and have to write letters to each other.

So The Notebook, except in the same time period and without crazy time hopping?

What the hell, why don't I just make a movie where a couple rides the bus. The boyfriend gets off on the wrong stop, he calls his girl on the phone, and they talk for the rest of the movie. He catches the bus at the next stop on the route, and the movie ends.

I would rather that movie to end where the guy is about to propose or some shit and the battery dies. Or his friend texts him porn and he's has to decide between the two.

Fuck that. District 9 was far better and far more deserving than Generic Pixar Film Number 9037.

Hey, wait one minute. Did I put down District 9 in anyway? No in fact I it seen in theaters and thought it was great. And I still think it pulling off a Best Picture nom is fantastic

But again we all choose favorites for the year. Mine being Up, while your is District 9. But to put down Pixar and their films is somewhat confusing to me, as they are the only ones who actually make great worth watching animated films, and have a passion like no other animation studio.

An animated family film rarely, no, never deserves to win Best Picture.

I haven't seen any of the last 3 Pixar movies.

:(

But I already have someone to go to Toy Story 3 with.
