I think that an Iron Man match would be an idea because it could work both ways.
First the MITB holder wins the title:
It would generate huge heat and be such a dick move. Here's how it would go down. The two original competitors go for an hour. Neither one of them can put the other away for a pinfall or submission. Then when minute 55 hits, out comes the MITB winner with the briefcase. Clearly these guys would be tired and the MITB participant picks whoever he feels is most vulnerable and gets the pinfall or submission just before time runs out... bang new champion.
The MITB loses:
It would preferrably have to be the with a guy who has a finisher that can come out of nowhere like an RKO or a Codebreaker or something like that. The scenario would be the same as if the MITB winner were to win the title. Except lets just say Randy Orton and his opponent are down. The MITB winner could eliminate Orton's opponent and go in for the kill. Then Orton hits the RKO thinking it's his original opponent. Then time runs out and Orton wins. Now a feud is set up with the MITB winner and Orton because the MITB winner can say that Orton wouldn't have beaten him one on one and was just reacting to another person getting close to them and for all he knew he was about to pin the ref.
It doesn't quite kill the momentum of the MITB as he's still around and has another shot as Orton would believe he could actually beat him and grants him his rematch.
(Orton is just an example not something set in stone)
