Many people look at the 1999 Sting vs. Rick Steiner PPV match at the 1999 Great American Bash as one of Sting's worst matches in his career because of Rick Steiner being a heat vacuum as a heel, while Sting had plenty of years left in the tank for wrestling, whereas Rick's best days in the ring were behind him by then plus he was beginning to look into doing real estate work after his pro wrestling career is over.
The only thing that saved the Sting/Rick match at the GAB '99 PPV was a run-in by Scott Steiner (sidelined with three herniated disks) brought in several dogs, leading to a backstage brawl spot, leading to Sting getting mauled by the dogs.
Were there any plans for Scott Steiner (assuming he doesn't incur three ruptured discs in his back) to battle Sting at the '99 GAB PPV instead of Rick Steiner, as well as a full-on feud between the two?...
...because I don't recall Scott Steiner ever having a direct long-term feud with Sting at all in the later years of WCW.
You have to remember that even after he became Big Poppa Pump, Scott Steiner hadn't quite bit the dust in terms of in-ring work just yet. Surgery to repair a back injury with three ruptured disks plus inserting a steel rod to stabilize it, did more harm to Steiner's overall mobility whereas '98-'99 had to be the only timeframe in which Big Poppa Pump didn't come off as immobile.
