Long story short pregnant wife had a lot of bad shit happen to her heart 5 years ago after having a valve transplant. She has had a hacking terrible cough for the past 12 weeks, during which time not one doctor or specialist did a fucking thing for her. On her last and 5th visit to her primary care doctor, a cunt I have no use for sends her to a lung specialist who recommends having an echocardiograph done.

So she goes to get the echo done, and the fill in cardio guy tells her that there is a problem and she will need to see her cardiologist when the guy gets back on vaction, which was yesterday.

So has an OB apointment the same day, this was last wendsday. The OB admits her because she has been short of breath after her coughing spasms.

This is where the really fucked up part begins.

She is visited by what seems like every god damn doctor in the fucking hospital except for her cardiologist who is on fucking vacation, and every single god damn one of em puts the fear of god into her. Basically the absolute worst thing they could tell her, might have to have heart surgury might lose the baby, might have to get the baby out at 27 weeks etc etc etc...

She is anemic. She was put on an iron perscription a week ago, and her hemoglobin levels were shit. It should be over 10 and they were at 6. Now I don't know much of what that shit means, but basically her blood was half water meaning that her heart was pumping 3 to 4 times as hard as it should. 1 because she is pregnant and two because she was anemic with low hemoglobin levels.

So they put order blood transfusions. They did 4 transfusions from wendsday night to friday morning. She started feeling better the cough let up a bit and by friday night her leves were where they should be. Great. But they can't let her out because her heart could still be fucked up, and her cardiologist doesn't get back until Monday.

Hospitals are absolute shit on the weekends. I mean absolute shit. They feed you garbage wake you up 3 to 4 times a night and don't do a god damn thing for you. The doctors who were obviously still very new and had to be stuck there sounded like fucking morons.

Sunday night she comes down with a slight fever and doesn't feel too good. 100.7 actually so they do all these damn tests. An all the while her fucking nurses are still grilling it into her that her heart was fucked up.

Monday morning her cardiologist shows up. He doesn't seem to concerned. None of the yer hearts fucked up, the baby is fucked crap that all the son of a bitches who had no knowledge of her history were giving her. He tells us that he wants another echo and says that it was good her blood was back to normal.

They do the echo and we don't hear anything more till around 6 last night. The cardiologist comes in an he is pissed. Basically tells us that the echo from when she got there was all because of the anemia and the hemoglobin and based on the echo they just did there is nothing at all wrong wwith her heart. Basically people who have valve replacements are kinda jacked up to begin with. Its a replacement its never gonna work like normal peoples hearts do. He was pissed because even the on call cardio guys were scaring my wife so much with their yer fucked bullshit.

Great right. Should be able to go home soon.

Nope.

Because she has been at the hospital as long as she has and had those fucking IV's in her she has developed a strep infection in her blood. Gonna require 3-4 days of iv antibiotics and another 3-4 days of observation.

An they still don't know why she is coughing and basically are blowing us off everytime we bring it up. I got about three hours of sleep last night because she was coughing so much, and she even threw up once. THEY ARE BLOWING US OFF!!

She is basically alot worse off now then when she got there, because a blood infection in people who have had heart surguy can be fatal. Hell for anyone to get a blood infection it can be damaging to their heart.

Sorry for the long ass post. Just really really fucking angry right now.

Anyone know a good lawyer?

Malpractice FTW!

Edit: Believe me I know your pain. I got back from my MRI last Monday and I have yet to hear back from my doc. Either they don't know what the fuck they're doing, or they're milking every minute of it. I WANT MY FUCKING REPLACEMENT VALVE SURGERY DAMNIT!

Johnny Cochran.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Nah but seriously, I may give you shit Vash, but I do pray everything goes well w/you and your family, I know what losing a family member/unborn child feels like and believe me, I wish it upon NO ONE. So my thoughts are with you Vash, need any advice or help my PM is open.

The nurses where ever you're at are apparently shit, my wife is a nurse and I can honestly say that what you experienced was terrible bedside manner.

I could run your story by my wife to see what kind of negligence was done here, because I'm not entirely sure that you'd be able to call for a case of malpractice. It's kinda like getting pneumonia from being sick and having to lay in a hospital bed constantly.

I really hate hearing stories like this but the truth of the matter is that it happens way too often and really shouldn't be ignored. As far as your wife's history goes, every medical personnel that walked into that room should have had a basic knowledge of her medical history, keep in mind I do say should have had, doesn't actually mean that they did.

I hope the best for you and your family

Thanks man. The thing that bothers me the most were the Cardiologists we saw while hers was on vacation. They did not even bother to check her past echos. They weren't as doom an gloom as the hemotologists, OB people, and respiratory people we saw, but as cardiologists they should have been more thorough. If they had she wouldn't have had to spend the weekend and picked up what could be a more severe infection and a bigger problem than anything she had when she came in. Pneumonia is a little different issue that takes time and antibiotics to take care of. She was absolutely fine on Friday morning and should have been released.

The real negligence was made by her primary care doctor. I will never recommend that cow to anyone.

Thanks for the concern.

My comparison of the infection to pneumonia was just the fact that it happens in hospitals. As clean as they tend to be, they are still a breeding ground for infections.

I have noticed that unless you just get an amazing doctor, which does happen from time to time, unless it's your actual doctor, the others on shift won't do much. I don't know if it's that they don't care because the patient isn't theirs regularly or the fact that don't want to step on anyone's toes. But it is a problem.

Back home in Kentucky we've got a few doctors (3 or 4) that are amazing, great bedside manner, and they'd do anything they could to help out the patients that they have when they're on call, the sad thing is that not every doctor views their job this way, and they really should.
