Unified Tag Titles Are Dumb

Just what I said. Unified Tag Titles are dumb...at least in the way the exist right now. Right now every week we have 2 guys walking around with 4 belts. To me that's just really annoying. If they are unified why can't we just have one set of belts. I can't imagine a time where they put one set of titles on the line but not the others and if/when they do that it will be even for dumb.

I can only imagine them keeping the titles like this for 2 reasons. One, they want the titles holders to look like a big deal so they have multiple belts. But do the last four title holders really need that? Two, they plan on building the belts up and then splitting them again to RAW and Smackdown. But if that even a good idea? We still don't have enough teams to warrant two titles.

This is basically a rant as I just don't understand this and it just looks dumb to me to carry around so many belts for the same thing.

Thoughts?

The reason they still have the two belts thing is cause Jericho likes to wrap himself up with belts. The more gold he has, the more heat he has. Remember when he was the first ever undisputed WWE champion. Jericho looks amazing with two belts, and Jeri-show's signature taunt couldn't be done with just one set. It's just like how Owen Hart would walk out with the tag belt and his two slammy awards in hand. More gold, more heat. Jericho holding the Bragging Rights trophy and the two belts was just hilarious, especially when he escaped through the crowd, but getting off topic. When Jericho dropped the undisputed WWE title to HHH, he held both belts for a couple of weeks till he introduced a new single belt and I think DX will unveil a new set of tag belts in the upcoming weeks, Jan 4th anyone?

It's a little dumb, but in essence this is the WWE's version of trying to make the Tag belts relevant and making sure they're recognized. Unifying the belts means that the two wrestlers holding the belts can be on both shows. It's clever if they do it right. Of course the WWE doesn't and hence is why the Tag Belts are meaningless in the WWE.

If DX will not wear their belts except for going to the ring, what does that say about the belts in general. I remember a day where the wrestlers would be so proud of the belt, that they'd wear it out in public, to bars, and other places. It's a damn shame they're treated the way they are. But it's best to have a Unified Tag Belt, because if they didn't, then the Tag division would be deader than it is now.

I was kind of hoping that they would have a finish to the TLC match where maybe Jericho and Michaels both grabbed a belt and then you would have separate champions again. I still think they need to have a REAL tag team division like there used to be. I miss the days of the Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz, and Edge and Christian all vying for the belts. They need to build true tag teams not just putting singles together to form a tag team for a little while.

I don't like the 2 belt thing either...and truthfully, I don't like the design of either of the belts...its definitely time for a single, newly designed unified tag title...and then if they decide to split them up, they always have the other designs to go back to...as far as workers not being proud of their titles, for the most part, outside of the ring most champions do carry their belts with them...a friend of mine has a picture from a few yrs back when JBL was the Undisputed Champion, he met him at a bar in Chicago, cowboy hat, undisputed title and all...so I think that just bc HHH and Michaels didn't carry their belts (that they just won the night before) with them when they presented/accepted a slammy doesn't mean they're not proud of them/dont carry them away from the ring.

I could've sworn I heard HHH say that DX was premiering a brand new set of unified tag titles last night. But they came out with the same 4 belts. Maybe I misheard or he meant that it was DX's newly won titles. Did anyone one else catch that?

I’ve said this many times before in other threads, and I will say it again. I love the two belt design of any Championship and Jericho used it to his advantage both times he had two belts. I understand everyone’s complaint about it, but I think having the two Titles is somewhat of a necessity to show what the WWE is trying to portray. The Tag Champs have a Raw Belt and a Smackdown Belt. Now unless the rest of the Champions can go on any Brand / Show, it should stay the way it is. It’s a simple case of more = better / most = best. Personally, I would like to see all the Titles consolidated with the Mid – Card and Female Champs holding two belts and the World Champ holding three belts, but that’s for a another discussion.

The only thing that really annoys me about the Unified Tag Titles is this:

If there is a unified tag champ, then there should really be a unified world champ. I don't mind having 1 team as THE team in the WWE, but if you have Unified tag champs, then you should really unify the World Title and the WWE Title and go back to having 1 undisputed champion. I don't really like the idea of having so many belts in the WWE because it takes away from the prestige, so for that reason I don't mind at all having 1 unified tag champs (and all the extra gold just makes the team look more impressive in my opinion) because it does help give back a little prestige to the titles.

Back to my original point, it makes things inconsistent when you your tag champs are unified but you have 2 world titles, it doesn't really make any sense why 1 would be unified and the others would not be unified (and don't tell me its because the WWE doesn't have a lot of teams, with all their extra guys sitting on the sidelines they could make at least 10 new teams in the span of 1 hour.) not to mention it wouldn't hurt having 1 guy work two shows as the world champ (especially since he could take a month off RAW to work Smackdown, or Vise Versa, this way it won't be the Champ for 2 hours straight on RAW or Smackdown. When Hogan was over he worked all shows, but in very small numbers, so when he did wrestle on that show it actually meant something because you got to watch Hogan wrestle maybe once a month).
