Undertaker, Please Save Us From...

Excellence of Execution
So I finally got a chance to watch Smackdown this week on the DVR and it was a decent show. But one moment in particular caught my attention. The Undertaker said, (paraphrase), "Wrestlemania will no longer define me". Basically, he insinuated he would be around more often.

Undertake, please save us from your old boring ass from being in the ring anymore. It's bad enough we have to watch you once a year at Wrestlemania, please don't tell me this is going to be a semi-regular thing from now on. Undertaker is old and despite the ridiculous chants from fans, he just doesn't have it anymore.

This is just another example of an old part-timer taking time away from the younger and hungrier wrestlers who deserve screen time. Undertaker is just another selfish old wrestler who wants the Wrestlemania glory and money. His in-ring work is a shell of what it once was and let's not even talk about how tired I am of his ridiculously long entrances. When I can order a pizza, drive to town, pick it up and eat the whole thing before Undertaker has walked from the stage to the ring, then it's too much.

Is anyone actually excited at a return from Undertaker? If so...why? Like, what is wrong with you?

If he is here to put over young or upcoming talent, then I am all in.

If he is here to defeat Bray Wyatt AGAIN, no need.

The product isn't that good that adding UT may be a net positive.

I think AJ can carry him to a good match and WWE will let him and Cena do whatever they want. I don't need to see him reunite with Kane or wrestle Lesnar or Wyatt again. I doubt he will be putting over young talent Kapu. He is there to help ratings and make some money in big matches.

I'm intrigued and cautiously optimistic.

The younger, hungrier wrestlers you refer to aren't particularly interesting. The part timers pop rating, and that's all that matters.

Taker is here to bump the SD ratings temporarily & nothing more. With Cena off again & Orton presumably as well after Survivor Series, Taker brings a much needed presence to what is still considered the B show. As good as it has been, it still feels like 2nd fiddle.

Taker giving it one last go while he is feeling it will be alright. A decent match with AJ will be followed by a small handful of meh matches worth nothing more than nostalgia points & I doubt he loses clean to anyone. More of a "Who has the nuts to stand up to Taker" than him putting guys over type situation. This leads up to the big Cena/Taker Mania match. Probably Title vs Career. We know how it ends.

Nothing wrong with a farewell tour, but it really does have to end by Mania. I love the guy, but sit the fuck down already. Nothing more to prove & it is getting to be Flair levels of past your time. Dont be that guy.

They won't pop ratings, not anymore. Undertaker doesn't show up that often on free TV even to promote Wrestlemania. And with PPVs exclusively on the WWE Network now, there's not much of a benefit.

Undertaker has already been a side attraction. His greatest benefit was to work programs next to the title, but never with the title. But he's far too old to be entertaining anymore, a shell of what he once was. It's time to put him out to pasture.

This run will very likely end up with Taker going out to pasture anyways. If he wins the title during it, it'll be a short thank you reign, and he's probably the best person to shuffle the belt to Cena for the record tying reign (as in, met with the least amount of internet vitriol)

Many people seem to think Taker vs. Cena at Mania is going to happen. And it might. But it'd be about 8 years too late.

I just want Undertaker to stop showing up. I want him to stop taking 10 years to walk to the ring. And I want him to quit wrestling in the ring. And I want wrestling fans to stop chanting "you still got it" at someone who clearly doesn't.

Smackdown needs more top guys until the new ones can start taking over. See no problem with his involvement. Raw probably needs him more though.

SD has at the top:
Styles
Orton
Wyatt
Cena
Ambrose

Not the deepest main event roster in the world. I'm guessing Taker is a short-term replacement for Cena.

None of his last few matches have been bad except for Lesnar and Wyatt at Mania (which has the excuse of concussion and Wyatt injuring his ankle before the match). The McMahon match wasn't the best but McMahon isn't a wrestler so I don't count that.

I don't know which makes me saddest: WWE needing Undertaker to wrestle in 2017 or the final 3 fights of Chuck Liddell's career.

I'm a fan of Undertaker's but I'm having trouble giving a shit.

The man is so broken he needs to be carried through his matches and it's just not fun to watch any more. It's sad more than anything

Undertaker brings nostalgia, his character is still more interesting than most on the roster right now. He's not going to show up every week, he's too old. But every now and then is refreshing to mix it up with the current roster. His name still means something in wrestling even though he's years, and years past his expiration date. I'd pay for a ticket to see The Undertaker over such current roster members.....

Golddust
R-Truth
Shining Stars
Breezedango
Titus O Neil
Darren Young
Big Show
Kane
Mark Henry
The Ascension
Bo Dallas
Curtis Axle
James Ellsworth

There's 16 right off the top of my head that make me want to turn the channel. I'm not saying Jake The Snake and Iron Sheik should replace them all but it's nice to at least have a good character show up now and then, like The Undertaker.
