Exclusive: Creative Situation For The Undertaker/WMania 29

Pre-Show Stalwart
WZ has learned this afternoon that as of now, there are three possible WrestleMania 29 opponents for The Undertaker – The Rock, Brock Lesnar and John Cena.

Additionally, we have been told the decision as to who The Undertaker works with is being left up to him. While WrestleMania 29 is still nine months away, it seems whichever two names are left out of the fold after a decision is made with The Undertaker, those two guys would likely work with each other at WrestleMania.

For example, if The Undertaker decides he wants to work with John Cena, it would likely mean The Rock takes on Brock Lesnar.

WZ will continue to follow the story and keep you up to date as things develop.

I think I already know who he's picking.

I don't care as long as the build-up features actual dislike rather than a pissing contest.

It should've been Cena vs. Lesnar at Mania but for some reason WWE decided to have that on a "B" show only a few weeks after Lesnar returned.

Cean vs. Lensar & The Rock have been done this year. Cena vs. Undertaker & Lesnar vs. The Rock haven't been done in a decade. I know what I'd book.

They are working with a very tight timeline with Lesnar, they only have so many dates for him and some feuds they need to do. I guess they could have had Lesnar vs. Cena at Summerslam instead, the match did need to happen.

Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker hasn't been done in a long time as well. If I remember correctly the last time they went at it Lesnar broke Takers hand with a propane tank. Taker and Lesnar had words at a UFC event, and I don't think Taker has ever beaten Lesnar. They tied at Unforgiven 2002 and Taker lost at No Mercy the following month. I know what I'd book, and what match would get the most attention.

The Rock can wrestle CM Punk if Austin doesn't sign on.

Screw it, I say just throw all four of them into the ME together, & make it a Fatal 4-way elimination match for the WWE title.

Happy with anyone except for Brock. I just don't find him interesting in any capacity, so it'd need heavy work of Heyman for a start and even then I'd prefer either of the two options from an overall feud perspective.

The Rock is someone legitimately capable on paper of beating the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, having beaten John Cena this year, Hulk Hogan in the biggest main event of the last decade and Stone Cold... eventually. He's a feud winner. On the whole, so is Cena. Lesnar I have far less faith in. After they wanted to restore the hype to him upon his return, they put him in a position whereby he dominated his match with the face of the company and yet was defeated in a mere two moves. If they intend to have him lose to HHH at Summerslam as reported, I think it will rub some of the lustre right off of him.

Things like that don't hurt a guy like, say, Chris Jericho who is billed to be able to have a back and forth match, or be dominated and win by sneaky means. But a guy who is billed to be an unstoppable monster that indeed does dominate his matches but ultimately loses to guys who are seemingly out of it is going to make him look unable to win, and it'll make him look less of a threat, even against an Undertaker in his late 40s who moves like a maimed gibbon.

No. I think personally that the top matches should look something like this with definite knowledge of what competitors are available:

CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar
The Rock vs. The Undertaker
John Cena vs. Randy Orton

That's a more than solid top three in my view. However, in one more day we'll know an awful lot more and be able to speculate on the path of the Wrestlemania a great deal better after finding out the MITB winners.

My only concern is that Daniel Bryan has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the WWE over the last year I would say, and I think he deserves to have a top tier feud that leads him into Wrestlemania this year. No 18 second diddy. I didn't mind it happening this year I will admit, but I think he deserves better than that this coming year.

I really don't see any appeal to Rock vs. Brock at all. Two total part-timers that haven't been around for years and years facing off on the biggest stage? There's absolutely zero intrigue to that.

On the other hand, there's a ton of intrigue into Taker/Lesnar, as Lesnar could easily be built as a legitimate threat, and he and Taker have that past confrontation at a UFC PPV. I also really want to see Cena vs. Rock II, mostly because I want to see Cena win, but also because it would be fun to see them top their first match that was really just above average.
