UFC 200

They're not expecting anything else. They just don't like it. I understand, this is fucking brutal.

I thought it was a thing of beauty. He ground him into fucking dust, and the score cards showed it.

He is a top wrestler against possibly the greatest striker in the history of mma.... One who also could not possibly have had any cardio at all for this.

DC fought nearly the perfect fight. The people booing were asshats

You'll please the people that understand the mechanics of fighting by fighting a good fight; you draw the big money by entertaining the casual fan. Demterius Johnson is probably the pound-for-pound greatest fighter in the world right now, but the cards he headlines don't draw a dime.

I'm a purist; I love watching the technical fights that bore the shit out of most people. But the fighters that draw the big money; the Conor McGregors and Jon Joneses of the UFC (or the Alis and Foremans if you want to stretch back), they win while being entertaining in the process.

True but Johnson, Cormier etc. are there to win fights. The promoters should be the ones promoting and getting people to watch (though the fighters themselves are often far better at that).

I always thought Clay Guida was one of the most entertaining fighters in the history of MMA. He looks like a fucked up Kramer-Caveman and moves like he just inhaled three bags of cocaine. You know you're going to see some crazy shit when he fights and that's what I love about the guy, win or lose.

Guida also has a concrete chin but has never been more than a gatekeeper.

Irritatingly, my DVR only recorded up until the moment before Brock's arm was raised, though I'd assumed he'd won. I was very impressed - I'd imagined, on past form, that he was going to get knocked out before he even reached the third.

The UFC women's bantamweight championship should probably be renamed the UFC hardcore championship at this point. Is anybody able to successfully defend that thing?

Plus, DC's already the champ. Once you get to that point, you win in any way you can and if that makes for a shitty fight now and again, so be it.

I'd have done the same thing considering when they were standing, a gassed Silva still hurt him more than a couple times.

I genuinely believe the point of UFC is to win by any means. If that means people boo you as you control the fight and lie on top of someone, then so be it. It might not be pretty. But if that is the way you are going to beat your opponent, then that's what people are going to do.

Is this not just a repeat of the same argument people had about Floyd Mayweather, or the Greek football team, or...?

Yeah, basically. The thing is the more "entertaining" fighters, meaning the ones that finish their opponents or just stand up and throw get more of the opportunities. But if you're the champ already, your goal is to win by any means necessary. Screw entertaining the fans.

The actual fights themselves are not supposed to be entertaining. The lead up to the fight and aftermath might be, but not the actual fight. It's a sport. A legitimate contest. People that want to boo a fighter for actually fighting are better off sticking to pro wrestling.

There's a lot of MMA "fans" that hate actual MMA.
