UFC 117 LD is Anderson Silva's Retirement Party, Hosted by Chael Sonnen

I don't think I've ever seen someone beat so thoroughly for 4+ rounds and then pull off a quick victory like that. It's like if you dangle a carrot in front of a horse for the entire race until the end when you take the carrot and shove it up its ass.

Sonnen definitely got lazy at the end there. It gave Silva the small opening he needed for the submission. Sonnen had a near perfect 4 1/2 rounds, but against someone like Silva you gotta be perfect every round.

I don't know. He probably did tap but there's no way we can tell. That was a judgment call by Rosenthall. Tough call to make. Still that was a great fight all the same. Sonnen controlled the entire fight but that one mistake cost him the fight.

Wow, what a fucking great card, and an AWESOME main-event. I wish the ending would have been a little more clear (as in submission let go immediately, and move on), but what a great card.

Money well spent.

On the other hand, Silva showed that if he's up against a strong wrestler, he's got major issues. He basically squeaked out a victory where he was other wise dominated. He needs to work on his ground game if they throw another wrestler at him.

Sonnen tapped. Silva let go of the hold so Sonnen got out of it and then acted surprised that the fight was stopped, but Sonnen knew he tapped, that's why he didn't protest very long.

And if Sonnen didn't tap then, he would have tapped soon. He wasn't going to last the round.

Very true. Although, he did mention he hurt his ribs last week, and if that were true, then it definitely would impact his ability to avoid takedowns, as well as escape from the bottom.

Chael Sonnen earned all my respect tonight. What a fucking performance.

Dude, the entire fight I'm fucking yelling at the top of my lungs for Anderson to go for a triangle. And when Sonnen sat up in the 5th and started throwing those body shots, I swear to God, I'm fucking yelling, "Triangle! For the love of God Anderson, go for it! This is your chance!!!" And sure enough, when he locked that baby in, I exploded. I got kind of worried there when Sonnen sat back (Machida vs. Ortiz came to mind), but when I saw Anderson lock in the arm triangle, ala Werdum vs. Fedor, I knew it was over. And I fucking went ballistic. It was so awesome. Well worth the $50.00, otherwise I would have been really upset.

But man... what a fight!!! I am so happy.

Like I said though, I am now a big Chael Sonnen fan and I will not bitch a lick if he gets an immediate rematch. And this time, I won't be so certain to count him out.

Wouldn't an injury like this make it out of his camp though? If not, it just seems like it's a built-in excuse in case he lost.

Dude it was a clear tap, he was reaching over for something to tap, and got one little tap in. Go back and watch it in slow motion. It was clear once they showed it in slow motion.

I could see that, but if it wasn't enough to prevent him from fighting, I don't think it was serious enough to affect him that bad. Sonnen did everything nearly perfect keeping Silva down other than getting lazy with his arms at the end. Much kudos to Silva though, he took a pounding and found the one opening he needed for the win.

I don't see how you can't give Sonnen the rematch, assuming he wants it. There's NO ONE else in the division worthy of a shot (do we really want to see Leben get destroyed again?) and Sonnen dominated the fight for all but the last few seconds.

Now I have a big dilemna. Do I go to bed, or watch the show all over again? Damn great shot, and I want to watch it again, get double my money's worth.

But he didn't lose, so why mention it if it wasn't true? What is there to gain by mentioning it when you win if it weren't true?

Guys have fought with broken bones and not had that stop him. And a rib injury is as painful of an injury as a person can have. You can't deny Silva wasn't NEARLY as elusive as he normally is. You can give some credit to Sonnen for that, but a rib injury would explain a lot of it as well.
