Ambiguous Turd

Mid-Card Championship Winner
EDIT: This match has now OFFICIALLY been named a "CHAIRS MATCH" on WWE.com.

With the assistance of a chair tonight on Smackdown, Batista injured Kane and took a Count Out Victory to secure his shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming TLC PPV. One has to wonder if that "steel chair" may be some foreshadowing of some things to come for this match. We'll pay close attention.

This match has been done before, as we know. These two fought in a better-than-expected match at Wrestlemania 23, which got decent reviews. Hopefully, they can continue the trend and continue to up the ante with their match at this PPV, as well.

This match really could go either way. You figure Undertaker really isn't in the best of shape anymore. And Batista is getting a renewed push as the Brand's top heel. At the same time, Taker hasn't really held the belt for all that long, and this could very well be his last run as World Heavyweight Champion. If that is the case, they may want to give him a lengthier reign as Champion if this is his last run.

So let's hear your thoughts on the match, and the potential outcome.

I am a little disappointed that these two are once again meeting in the Smackdown Main Event. Raw is giving us something new and exciting now, while Smackdown is giving this to us once again. I for a while try to keep out of the wrestling tabloids, because it destroyed me, but I seem to forget Edges return date. Could the master of the one man conchairto return at the TLC Pay-Per-View to deliver some chair shots? If he does it to Batista, he will turn instant face. However, if he does it to Undertaker, he could get the boos he will need to remain heel. If he causes Batista to win by DQ, Batista might get pissed off and attack Edge, making Batista a more dangerous heel.

All in all, I see Edge making his return if he is ready. If not, then this match is pretty dull

TM id love to see edge return but it just isnt going to happen, they havent even thought about his wrestlemania match yet because they dont think he will be 100% in time, back to the match i think they have added this SD main event that we have all seen before for 2 reasons

1. they have sheamus vs cena for the strap i mean cmon who thinks this is going to sell a ppv! not me and i like sheamus
2. batista is now the top heel on SD and with this the match is going to be different to the others where they wanted batista to still be a face at the same time as going against one of the top faces of the company.

i feel this match with be enjoyable but you wont be seeing me jumping out of my seat, but yeah i think they have added a steady title match to balance the newbie sheamus

This match has been done before, as we know. These two fought in a better-than-expected match at Wrestlemania 24

It was actually WM, but doesn't really matter. That was a pretty decent match.

As for this one, not that excited. Sure, it'll be pretty good as Batista and Taker still have something left in the tank. The crowd should be pretty into it as long as they keep it moving at a decent pace. The hardcore element should play a factor here as well. I think this may be a chair match, or just a match with chairs, or something. Not sure, but there will definetly be something.

As for the winner, I'd lean towards Taker. Batista could take it off of him, but I don't think it'd be right away. Give it a little more build up and I'd be ok with Batista as champ. We are heading toward WM time and Taker definetly shouldn't have the belt then. With Batista being the #1 heel, he'll get it eventually

I see Undertaker retaining in this match. Batista has became a fresh character and has got the momentum to win the title. But I think it is a little to early. I mean he just turned heel and giving him the world title this fast well just make this heel push seemed rush. They should hold off on this as long he they can so they can get Batista some more momentum and so it would actually mean something when he gets the title.

Edit Sidious I don't mean to correct you or anything but it happen there match at wrestlemania 23 not 24.

OK so the batista vs undertaker is way way overdone. Why on earth would wwe not do on sd wat they did on raw. Dolph Ziggler,R truth,Drew Mcentyre all i belive did not have matches on smackdown. Even Kane wpuld be great because Taker and kane bring out the best in eachother

I don't think it is overdone because we haven't seen them face each other in a one on one match for two years. Also what makes this match different then there previous encounters is that Batista has a fresh character as a heel. So at least its something new to the match. Plus they got history together and it wouldn't make that much sense for Ziggler, R truth and Mcentyre to contend for the world title this early. Especially Ziggler he can barley win the Intercontinental title how do you expect him to win the world title against Undertaker.

Kane that would be something new for the main event secene on SmackDown. But two be honest there matches have been more overdone. I mean that can't really add anything new that they already done accept that there feuding for the World title but that's it.

I feel that this match will be average at best. They are saying this one will be a chairs match. Really? A chairs match? What the hell is that? Alright, maybe im being a cynical bastard but after Batista hit Taker 20 times with a chair while he was on the ground to end the show this past week in one of the lamer ambushes I have seen in a while, I can't really get very excited for this one. Especially when both of these guys aren't in the best shape of their wrestling careers. Also the story behind this match is as boring and unoriginal as it can get. Im sure next week we'll get Taker coming out and saying how Batista will rest in peace at TLC.

Sorry, but I just can't find any interest in this match. Maybe 5 years ago I would be excited for this one, but not now considering where these guys are at in their careers. Taker will retain here, but not without making Batista look like a legitimate threat so they can keep this feud going. If only Edge was waiting in the wings, I would give Batista the title and let Edge come in and feud with him. But with hardly a main event scene on Smackdown, I see Taker retaining so they can probably have this exact same match at RR unless Edge returns in time.

I'm excited for this match because I'm interested to see afterwards how Batista is portrayed when the match is over.

I feel pretty confident that Undertaker will retain as champion and looks to be holding the belt all the way to wrestlemania and this could very well be the last title reign he has in his carrer.

WWE is obviously giving Batista a major heel push and in prevoius threads we've been discussing how he hasn't been able to draw very much "heel heat" right away. A lot being because he's just beating up a much smaller opponent in Rey and such is only coming off as a bully. The overall concenus in that last discussion was that the only way Batista would be able to gain a lot of heel heat was to fued with the Undertaker and now we have the match.

I'm interested to see what the WWE has in store for this matches finish. Usually you kind of have a decent idea and you know what direction the fued is going but with this one I'm not so sure.

Will it be a close match? Will their be outside interference? Or will the match be a complete one sided affair?

It's not the best match that's on the card but for me personally the mystery of the outcome will be what keeps me interested in the match.

Okay, so I for one am sort of looking forward to this match. Last time these two men faced off, both were faces, now one is heel, and attempting to look as dominant as he did back when his career really took off in Evolution. While I can't really see Batista winning the match as there are no faces to really step up and face him aside from the Undertaker, I still think this match will be a good match.

I personally see the match ending with Batista just going crazy, and instead of going for the pin, he just decimates Taker with a chair, and does even more damage then he did on Smackdown, and then he will leave with the championship.

I think maybe the match will end with a dq, caused by Batista using a foreign object other than a chair. Then maybe Taker can turn into the nastiest heel you've ever seen, leading to a retirement title match with Edge at mania, which will shock everyone by Taker actually LOSING. Sets up a very plausible retirement for him, passes on the streak, and gives Edge back the title. I'll cry like a baby, but it could work?

I think this match will be pretty fine. I mean, it was a good feud when both of them were faces in 2007 and now Batista is the heel. I do think Taker will retain. If Batista would win a rematch and Batista will win, he will probably feud with Rey Mysterio. Taker could feud with Jericho after losing the Tag titles.

So, this match would be pretty good, especially if you watched Wrestlemania 23.

Good Job!

Well.... we are all wondering just what exactly a chair match is. Looks like we will find out. Undertaker is facing Batista in a chair match. They had a great match at Wrestlemania 23 that I doubt they can live up to, but this still has potential to be an alright match. I want Taker to retain but he will probably lose his title before Wrestlemania, and Batista might win here because he will have a number of faces who he can feud with. I'm also interested in finally finding out what a chair match even is because I have never seen one, although it is probably just the equivalent of a hardcore match with nothing but chairs. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Taker's losing the title.

DAGGER DIAS PREDICTION
Batista will win the World Heavyweight Championship.

I don't really care about this match, unfortunately. Apart from finding out what a chairs match is, I'm not looking forward to it. I'm sure it'll be a perfectly fine match, it just doesn't excite me as much as the other matches on the card.

WWE.com explained what a Chairs Match is. I didn't see Smackdown on Friday, so I can't comment ... but I don't know if they explained it or not in the Commentary, or else you all missed it, as well.

Apparently a Chairs Match will have Chairs thrown about all over the outside of the ring. And the gimmick is .... wait for it .... you can go outside, grab a chair, and use the chairs as many times as you want on your opponent. Winner is by pinfall.

The concept for the match is okay. I don't have a problem with it. It is what it is. It is a match where essentially Steel Chairs are the only Foreign Object that is legal to be used in the match.

The only problem I have is that from what I have seen (which was each Smackdown except for this Friday), I don't think this match has been hyped all that well. I just don't feel anything going into this match ... any sort of excitement, or whatever ... even though this is the first for a match of this kind in WWE history. It just doesn't seem to mean anything to me.

I think they will likely have a very vicious match and deliver though. Wouldn't expect any chair shots to the head, though, for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised for Batista to take the title, since it is time for Undertaker to do another one of his disappearing acts again until Wrestlemania, is it not?

It makes sense for Batista to win the title here. Like Sid said, it's time for Taker to rest up until either the Royal Rumble match or Wrestlemania. If this is Batista's final major run with the WWE, this would be the best time to drop the belt off of Taker. Gimmick matches can change everything. You can beat someone, but not beat someone. Even if Batista dominates, you can blame the chairs match gimmick on that. It's not a regular match, so any kind of finish would work.

I do see the Animal winning thing and beginning a new era of boring on Smackdown.

Now even though I am looking forward to this match, I am not sure if it will actually be so good. They have been going stale last time they faced and I just hope that today is not the occasion.

Now Undertaker has held that title for a while, and it might be time for it to change hands... But I don't think that today is that time.

However, Batista needs more of a push as a heel, since he is not doing that good of a job. Winning the title from the untertaker might just help.

Prediction: batista

Until HBK explained the rules, I wasn't too sure what a Chair Match was (thanks, Shawn).

Something's telling that this match isn't going to be very good. Yeah, these guys had a pretty good match at WM TWO YEARS ago but I doubt this will be as good as that one. I expect a lot of slow movement with some chair shots. If anything, hopefully see some new, creative chair uses; since that's all they have. It'd be pretty cool if Taker brought back that guillotine chair thing he used to do years ago.

For the first time ever, I actually want Batista to win this. I've been bored with Taker's reign, and it'd be a great change of pace to have a dominant, monster heel champ even if it is boring Batista.

Not to mention that I've already bet my house on Batista winning. Don't let me down, Dave.

I'm going to go with Batista. There is really no need for Taker to hold onto the belt, with Batista being the only real challenger he has right now. The Animal will win the title, Taker will disappear, and we'll see a challenger being built up to face him at WrestleMania. My money would be on John Morrison, but don't count out a returning Undertaker.

I freakin hate it when WWE does this. In my opinion when a match is over, it is OVER. Cheap shots behind the refs back happens all the time in WWE. It's what makes you hate the heels so much. They do cheap stuff behind the refs back and get away with it. Batista winning by a cheap shot with a chair is a legit WWE finish, but Teddy Long restarting a match that is over only for it to end in a few seconds is not a legit WWE finish. It's kind of ironic that the only legit way to end this is by a cheap shot, but by WWE standards it's what we want. I think WWE messed up the end of this match.

Does anybody know how long its been since we've seen a clear cut finish that resulted in a title change for Smackdown's World heavyweight title? It seems like every PPV their GM has to come out and either restart the match for some reason, or add someone to the title match or something. Its really getting old and its about time we get a clean legit finish for the World Title!!!

I'm struggling to not call this the low point of the night (besides the Women's match). The match itself wasn't bad, but both men were spent pretty quickly. Chairs Match fails as a gimmick, I feel, because there really wasn't much feature on the chairs, and it would have sucked if it was all chair shots all the time anyway. Next idea!

The finish was a joke. I don't get what the hell Teddy Long is supposed to be on camera. He flirts with being a heel GM, and then does stuff like this. It just makes him look incompetent. And wwefan2010 is totally on when he says:

It's true, it's true. There have been some clean finishes, but the majority of the wins since Edge dropped the belt have been retconned by the GM figure for no understandable reason. What the hell are they trying to do with Teddy Long?!

In the end I'd say an average match with a now traditional Teddy Long finish that does nothing for Undertaker and only serves to reverse the heel push Batista is getting (yes, let the heel get questionably screwed out of the belt, see if that doesn't get him more cheers than boos). So he used a low blow...if a GM came out every time something like that happened, at least half of the matches you see on TV would be restarted.
