Three Stages of Hell.

Occasional Pre-Show
Whilst I registered a year ago, I only started using this forum yesterday so I apologise if this has been a discussion before.

We had the Ryback vs Cena match at Payback in 2013, it was not a suitable feud and the match types were too gimmicky but in an age of PG this could be a very good way to finish a feud rather than a Hell in a Cell match for example. They can show how different wrestlers have different styles, highlight stamina and resilience and help gain respect for the loser.

Firstly is there still a space for a Three Stages of Hell Match?
What would your ideal 3 stages be in this match?
Where would this type of match best fit on a PPV calender? A Summerslam/Survivor Series or a small PPV?
And which current or potential rivalry would best suit this match?

I would personally love to see two of Ambrose, Rollins, Bryan or Ziggler involved in this type match, heading a smaller PPV. I would personally love to have seen Ambrose vs Rollins. Submission, Falls Count Anywhere and then Ladder match for the MITB briefcase, but with that gone Bryan vs Rollins for the title down the line with the same stipulations would be great.

Jeez, when was the last time we had a 3 Stages of Hell match before that? As far as whether or not it can still be done, I guess I'll give them one more chance, because I honestly completely forgot the one in 2013. If the next one is as forgettable as that one was then I'd say just do away with it once and for all and just keep 2 out of 3 falls. There's really no type of PPV this match would be suited for, as they have demonstrated in the past. I mean, one was in June, one was in February, and one was in December. My ideal 3 stages would be a build-up of Stage 1: One fall to a finish 2: Steel Cage Match and 3: Last Man Standing, which makes sense because if you and your opponent put each other through hell for two matches in a row, it now becomes a contest to see who is tough enough to remain standing. Which rivalry would be best suited to this match....well if Cena vs. Lesnar is supposed to end once and for all at the Rumble, then this would be a good way for it to be settled. Lesnar pins Cena for the first stage, Cena manages to escape the cage to win the second stage and then it's really up in the air as to who would win the final stage, and this creates the PERFECT scenario for a cash-in after the match.

The problem with three stages of hell matches is that its predictable that the match will always end 2-1, especially if you have a ladder match last. Thats generally the problem with three stages of hell matches, they have a big gimmick match at the end.

I do think you can make a three stages match work, but it cant be predictable over the first two stages which to establish that idea in the fans minds you need to have multiple matches, which will make them overdone and the fans will lose interest(its a hard balancing act)

There is definitely still space for a Three Stages Of Hell match. There are not any particular sets of specific match types that would make an ideal Three Stages Of Hell match for me. As long as the three stages are different enough from each other that the fans will want to see all three stages. The third needs to be the most intense one of them all, a Ladder match comes to mind as a good example. It would have been an excellent match type to use to end feuds like Ambrose VS Rollins. There are very few options for a feud ending match that are better for ultimate closure than a Three Stages Of Hell match.

I would make this match type an annual part of the Payback PPV brand. It currently has nothing to set it apart from the rest of the brands. They had one at the first Payback event, why not make it an annual tradition? It could also fit in nicely at Extreme Rules to not only give that brand a match type exclusive to it (something it desperately needs) but also a chance to finish a Wrestlemania feud the most intense way possible. It should not be at the bigger shows like Wrestlemania or Summerslam. The smaller shows would benefit far more from it as the match types used in the stages can help generate buys for shows fans might otherwise not care about.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Three Stages of Hell match, it's been that long ago. What I would like to see come back is War Games instead. Much more fun and interesting. The only problem is you need two rings, and I don't Vince would want to use the space when he could have paying customers there.

I think so. It's a rarely used match so that helps. You can't do these matches with everybody.

It depends on the wrestlers involved in the match on what I'd consider ideal. Some wrestlers are too big to pull off a ladder match.

I think it could fit on any PPVs as long as the feud is worth it.

Right now, just Cena vs. Brock because it's a long-term feud and they've only scratch the surface on the types of matches they could do.
