Alien's miracle run ends here, as does the hopes of the new millenium. Both Alien and Gladiator are very fine movies, but they are in over their collective heads here. Empire Strikes Back and Schindler's List are among the greatest movies ever created. Even non Star Wars fans will have a hard time sayign no to how amazing ESB is. There are no flaws in this film. It has action, comedic spots, romance, you name it. Not to knock Schindler's List whatsoever. It is one of the most dramatic moving films of all time. There are scenes in that movie that are almost too hard to watch.

However, at the end of the day, Schindler's List is almost too real to me. ESB is pure fantasy, which is why I go to the movies. TO escape from the real world. Schindler's List is a true story, and it plays off almost too well. I'll go for Empire Strikes Back here.

Why is their a fatal 4-Way final? Bare in mind that I'm not actually intrested, no need to answer it.

Gladiator is a fine movie, but it's not a great movie. It's enhanced by the accolades it won upon it's release. I'm sure most people can name several similar films that are so much better, this is just the most recent and popular.

I've never heard Schindler's List referred to as one of the greatest films of all time before. I've never heard anyone say that it's anything less than great. But it's just a film based of a subject that most of us did at school. If anything, I've read better.

So I guess it comes down to the two the two Sci-Fi films. I don't get why Alien is some sort of underdog. It's one of the greatest SF films of all time, and I hear the same of Empire to. But I don't get Star Wars. To me they're nothing more than enjoyable popcorn films. It's the best in the series, it's darker and all that jazz. But it still has the terrible acting that preceded it in the first. If anything the filmakers of Empire didn't know what they were doing. They made the story broader, and as a result it effected the third. There were to many loose ends. In Jedi they ammended it by adding Ewoks. Alien added Alien Queens.

Y'know what's a better film than Star Wars? The Godfather, and Alien beat that one in this tournament.

Honestly, are any of these movies the best of all time? I don't think so. I think we screwed up somewhere. In my opinion, Gump should have won this thing.. But, ah well.

Alien and Gladiator have no shot. No shot at all. They shouldn't be here. At all.

Schindler's is too real to me. I can see how it is a good movie, but it's not something I would ever want to watch to be entertained. It's depressing and no fun at all. People vote for it because of how powerful it is, but by that logic, The Passion of the Christ could also be considered one of the greatest movies of all time. I don't think Passion or Schindler's is.

I'll be voting for Empire. I don't think it's the greatest of all time by any stretch of the imagination, but, it's the best of these four. :/

Yes, because tis Forrest Gump that is the greatest film of all time. That lovable ******, get's me every time.

Alien and Gladiator have no shot. No shot at all. They shouldn't be here. At all.

Why shouldn't they be here? People voted for them, maybe other film just aren't that popular, or even that good.

Schindler's is too real to me. I can see how it is a good movie,

I get you, with the Jews dying and whatnot.

but it's not something I would ever want to watch to be entertained.

Really, I found it to be very entertaining. Just because something is powerful it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

It's depressing and no fun at all.

What it really needed was some type of song and dance number. This is my suggestion:

Or this:

People vote for it because of how powerful it is,

Armageddon blew my socks off, literally.

The Passion of the Christ could also be considered one of the greatest movies of all time. I don't think Passion or Schindler's is.

Synopssis of Passion Of The Christ:

Let them eat bread.
Spanking.
Walking.
Falling over.
Walking.
Falling over.
Walking.
Hanging around.

It's an ok film at best. Loved the demons though.

I'll be voting for Empire. I don't think it's the greatest of all time by any stretch of the imagination, but, it's the best of these four. :/

Vote Alien.

Since the beginning, I have been putting my weight behind Gladiator, but I don't know if I have to. Everything that has needed to be said about Gladiator, I have. It has won the 2000s easily, and has beat many great movies on the way. But when it comes down to it, it has a good movie in Schindler's List. It was good for the purpose, but as I remember, either people didn't go to the class when we watched it, or fell asleep. How can a great movie put people to sleep? Then I look at Alien. I know its a good movie. But it does not hold up, it is dark, and half the time you don't know what is going on. It is a suspense movie that is predictable. The cast is meh, with only Weaver looking like she tried. I'm glad they all got ate. Then we have Star Wars V. Sure, the Star Wars are a good set of movie, when you have access to IV, V, and VI. But on its own, it is just one piece of a puzzle. That been said, it is a good Sci Fi movie, but can you really life in a world where the best movie was highlighted about a boy with daddy issues? Vote Gladiator. It deserves to be here, and it deserves to win against these movies.

Since the beginning, I have been putting my weight behind Gladiator, but I don't know if I have to.

Why would you have to?

Everything that has needed to be said about Gladiator, I have.

Other than it's grossly overrated.

It has won the 2000s easily,

It shouldn't have.

and has beat many great movies on the way.

Yeah, what's up with that?

But when it comes down to it, it has a good movie in Schindler's List.

You mean a good movie to go against? yes, Schindler's list > Gladiator, it's not even close.

It was good for the purpose, but as I remember, either people didn't go to the class when we watched it, or fell asleep.

It's purpose, like most films, was to make money. Secondly it was made to get the people involved awards.

How can a great movie put people to sleep?

Let me give you a little story. In 1999 I won a year long cinema pass. I had two free tickets for 52 weeks. I used it each and every week. The moral of the story is that for some I was tired, and I fell asleep.

Then I look at Alien. I know its a good movie.

Vote Alien.

But it does not hold up,

It holds up very well, it's older than all the others you know.

it is dark, and half the time you don't know what is going on.

Really? You're watching it in the middle of the day with the sun shining on your TV, that will have an effect on your viewing pleasure.

Find me a candy coloured horror.

I'm not going to say anything about you not knowingh what's going on, I refuse.

It is a suspense movie that is predictable.

Was it predictable the first time people saw it? Did you predict an alien bursting out of somebodys chest?

The most predictable film out of the whole tournament is.........Schindler's List.

The cast is meh, with only Weaver looking like she tried.

Yes, because Tom Skerrit, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm & Yaphet Kotto are all horrible actors. None of them have done anything of note since Alien because of their awful acting.

Naturally, I'm joking. Alien has the best ensemble of the 4 films in the final.

I'm glad they all got ate.

If only you were on that ship.

Then we have Star Wars V. Sure, the Star Wars are a good set of movie, when you have access to IV, V, and VI. But on its own, it is just one piece of a puzzle.

While I would agree, it's hardly Return Of The King. There is plenty to get from Empire as a stand alone film.

That been said, it is a good Sci Fi movie, but can you really life in a world

I don't think I can.

where the best movie was highlighted about a boy with daddy issues?

Like most films?

Vote Gladiator. It deserves to be here, and it deserves to win against these movies.

Out of the 4, Gladiator is the worst. There are only two that could be considered classics. Empire & Alien.

Vote Alien.

I'm voting Schindler's List. First off out of the 4 movies, it's my favorite(followed by Alien, Gladiator, and Empire). It is very powerful, and the acting is top notch. Everything about the film is solid or above and I think it deserves to win. It's a great movie, not just because of the subject but because of the film itself. Everything from the directing, to acting, to the score, and art direction is amazingly done. To me this film is one of the best films ever.

Isn't Galdiator about a boy with daddy issues? Doesn't Commodus try to kill Maximus because of daddy issues?

Anyway, I'm voting for Schindler's List. I'm a Jew, that movie means a lot to me. I had family, granted, that I never met, die in the Holocaust, and to think that one man saved so many kind o gets to me. Plus, the movie is great.

It's also the only one that I would have picked out of it's bracket. In the other three decades I would have gone a different direction.

Out of these four, I'm going with The Empire Strikes Back. Gladiator doesn't deserve to be here, it's a decent movie, albeit overrated as hell, but it's nowhere near the best movie ever. It's not even the best movie of that year. Schindler's List is a great movie and nobody can deny that, but it's not a movie I want to watch over and over again. It's informative, sure, but it's not ridiculously entertaining, which is the purpose of movies anyway. I almost chose Alien, but chose The Empire Strikes Back because of its' overall impact on pop culture. Alien is an amazing movie and would be in the running (with The Empire Strikes Back) for the greatest Science Fiction movie of all time, but it just can't compete with the overall impact of The Empire Strikes Back.

I still think Forrest Gump should be here, but anyway, what happens, happens.

Out of these four, i'm going with The Empire Strikes Back. After just having watched Schindler's List last night, and Alien the night before, I can see why some people would like them. But to me, they both bored me. I haven't found a Sci-Fi movie I liked apart from the Star Wars frachinse, and I find the genre quite boring, and Alien proved me right imo. Schindler's List, while I understand the meaning of the film and I understand why people think it's a great film, it wasn't entertaining, and I found it to be a bit boring.

Gladiator is still one of my favourite movies, but I can't let it go over The Empire Strikes Back. Gladiator is much too overrated, and while still a good movie, isn't really that great after you've watched it a few times. Empire Strikes Back is a movie you can always watch over and over again, and not get tired of it. There are many different aspects of the plot, which makes for a great movie. I could go on, but it would take too long.

Vote Empire.

I am going to go with the Empire Strikes Back. I have never been a great Star Wars fan but this movie had it all in terms of acting, dialogue, script, directing, plot and setting. Plus the story was actually good with a few twists and turns. It was basically the whole centerpiece for the whole Star Wars story and it made people more interested in the true history of Star Wars. If Vader was never revealed as Luke's father, it would have been very anticlimatic so having this really elevated the movie to extreme heights.

Alien won the movie tournament.

I'm.. shocked.. to say the least. I would have thought that Gump, Empire, Godfather, Prive Ryan... Any major movie would trump this. But, they didn't. Alien went through Godfather. Alien went through Star Wars. It did not have an easy path to get her. Nor did it have easy competition in the finals. I'm impressed.

Not yet it hasn't. There's still until 812 EST tomorrow.

People, I beg of you. Vote for ESB. Between Alien and ESB, ESB simply is a more complete film. I ask any of you to show me something that Alien has that ESB doesn't, plus more. Alien may be a more terrifying film, but I will stand by my theory that the alien popping out of the man isn't as great of a shock as Vader revealing his secret to Luke. Watch that movie and you will still get a chill from it. The visuals are second to none, there's romance, comedy, action, drama, everything you could ask for in a movie. Vote for the best movie: Vote for Empire Strikes Back.

Shango says it ends Friday in the original post.. Ah, whatever.

I agree with KB 100% here. Empire is just classic. It has everything in it that you could ask of a movie. People complained about ROTK not being able to stand alone. How it would be confusing without the first two. Something that makes ESB unique is that it can stand alone and still be an excellent movie.

KB already said most of what I planned on saying. Vote Empire.

The chest bursters have an effect through not one, not two, but three films. I'll exclude Resurrection & the AvP films. But the concept works each time it's done. In the first film it's shocking, in the second you know what is going to happen to the female inhabitant on that planet and it still works, and what about Ripley's death in Alien 3?

Fair point, but we're not talking about the sequels. We're talking about the first movie. And if you have to choose between the more memorable of the two scenes, then it's definitely Vader's reveal to Luke in Empire. Both are shocking, both have been lampooned and spoofed endlessly, but in the end, Empire has the more memorable moment.

Darth Vader telling Luke that he is indeed his father is probably the most memorable, the most quoted, and the most spoofed upon scene in any movie ever. I don't think it's debatable on that one. The shock factor of the alien bursting out of his chest is not close to that of, "Luke! I am your father!" Anyway. Please, vote Empire!

Not really. Out of both of the scenes Empire has one memorable line. Does anyone recall much before or after, bar the arm lopping. Most people can recall the whole dinner scene in Alien.

Not even close. There are plenty of scene more memorable than that one. It might be close to the top, but it's dialogue, the line is more memorable than the actual scene.

Visual over verbal, which is why more people watch TV than listen to the radio.

I don't remember anything from the movie Alien except for some darkness and an alien jumping out of a guy. True story.

I remember a ton from Star Wars. It doesn't really matter, this argument, any more. Alien has won it. And, it's not really a big deal.

Now would be a god time for The Dark Knight to make a suprise entrance into the tournament and defeat Alien in a bonus round. That would make everybody happy , I gurantee it. I would also gurantee a Dark Knight win. But too bad we're stuck with these finals. Forrest Gump should have won the whole thing. Most people dont even know what the alien movies are. Gump is a icon.

You keep going on about how Gump should have won without ever giving a real reason. Just because it's a personal favourite of yours, doesn't mean it should get far in the tournament. The Alien, Ripley & the whole cast of Empire, puppet or not are more iconic than Gump. Maximus is more iconic than Gump, and Schindler's list is just better than Gump. Schindler's list brings out real emotion, In Gump you were duped by the little ****** that could. Gump is saccharine and over sentimantal.

The way people dismissed the chances of Alien is laughable. I might have got people to vote for Alien over Empire in this round. But I didn't do a thing in the round where the film faced The Godfather. Alien won that film all on it's own. Now if a film can beat The Godfather, which is better than Empire, why doesn't it stand a chance against a depressing holocaust film, a film about a special needs person defying the odds, or a film with lots of puppet aliens?

People wrote it off when it was one of the top films in the whole tournament. People say that it didn't deserve to get this far, orwasn't worth of a place in the final. Almost as if the outcome was important. It's not like the winner now get's a newly edited Wikipedia page. If people should be pissed about anything it should be the fact that the best film of the past decade went out in the first round or so.

This is exactly how I feel about Forrest Gump, and it's exactly what I've been saying for the whole tournament.

Some people just take things way too seriously. To be honest, I was kind of expecting an upset, with an unlikely film winning the whole thing. I just didn't think it would be Alien. Alien wasn't my choice this round, but I'm not pissed that it won. In fact I highly doubt I would have been pissed at all. I've said it a thousand times, this wasn't necessarily about who won the whole thing. It wasn't about generating discussion about movies, and getting people to check out movies they might not have seen before or wouldn't have considered seeing otherwise. And in those regards, I'm happy to say that I feel the tournament was a success.

If people should be pissed about anything it should be the fact that the best film of the past decade went out in the first round or so.
And what film was that, Jake?

I agree with most of that. I think some of the film choices were a little odd, but overall it was a solid choice. Either way who gives a shit?

The tournament was a success, by current forum standards. It could have done with a few more posts, and the final would have been a wash out if it wasn't for a Y 2 Jake injection. But a couple of posts per thread is a success when the forum in general is dead and there is a tournament overload.

I was leaving myself wide open to be torn apart with Alien. Nobody pointed out that Darth Vader is one of the best villains of all time or that Empire has one of the best twist endings of all time. They might have done in earlier rounds, that might have been the problem. There's only so much you can say about a film and over a couple of rounds you'll get sick of saying the same thing.

And what film was that, Jake?
