The worst match you've ever seen?

The Rob

Telling me I'm invincible..
Over the years there have been a lot of extremely good matches, Shawn Michaels v.s Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 being quite possibly at the top of that list. But what is, not just in WWE but in wrestling as a whole, the worst match you have ever seen?

When I think of one match that I can truly say is the worst match I have ever seen, I think of Brock Lesnar v.s Goldberg from WrestleMania XX. They built this match up pretty well and it was actually the match I was most looking forward too that night. I was unaware that it would be Lesnar's last match (when I found out I was stunned, cause I was a huge Lesnar mark at the time), which didn't hinder my excitement for it. I remember the crowd did puzzle me for a little bit but I just thought it was all part of a big match atmosphere thing.

The match itself was just fucking awful. It took nearly 5 minutes for anything remotely interesting to happen! And what did happen was so basic and uninteresting, I remember getting extremely bored and by the end, I couldn't give a shit who won. Austin had barely any impact on proceedings untill the very end where he gave both Lesnar and Goldberg and "Stone Cold Stunner".

You can tell Lesnar really didn't give a shit about how it went, about what he said or did, and I truly believe that the middle finger gesture he delivered to the jeering crowd was actually him as a person, not the character. He knew he was leaving so he thought fuck it, heres to all of you. That was the wrong thing to do, because if it wasen't for the fans getting behind Lesnar during his early days, he wouldn't of been the face that he was in early 2003.

Here is, in my opinion, the worst match in professional wrestling history for you all to puke over:

Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar the worst professional wrestling match of all-time? You've got to be kidding me. I mean, sure, the staredown was boring as hell, but once the action started, it was half-decent. As for it being "basic and uninteresting", what on earth else would you expect from these two? Two huge powerhouses trying to display their dominance with power moves, throwing each other all over the place. If this thread was "most disappointing match of all-time", I could agree. But it's far from being the worst pro-wrestling match ever.

The most obvious one which comes to mind is Hogan/Warrior from Halloween Havoc 1998. Just full of botches everywhere, an absolute embarassment of a match. They just shouldn't have tried to rekindle the flame from that feud in the WWF and the match they had at WrestleMania, which was very entertaining.

Then we have the Nash/Hogan Fingerpoke of Doom, which yes, was a match. Anything with David Arquette was dull as hell, and Khali has had some real stinkers with the likes of Batista and Kane.

Goldberg/Lesnar wasn't the worst of all time, but I can see where you were coming from. Maybe you should've said it was the most disappointing match of all time, or something along those lines. While it may have been bad, there have been worse.

Personally, I'm going to have to say Hornswoggle/Chavo, specifically the cow one. It was just awful in each and every way. It made me question why I watch pro wrestling. Even though it was only a few minutes, it was just awful.

Honorable mention goes to any Mysterio/Kane match during the whole "Mask" fiasco

I would watch Lesnar vs Goldberg over "Santina" vs Vickie Guerrero anyday.

Santina vs Vickie Guerrero was one time when I was seriously embarrassed to be watching WWE. You had Santino Marella dressed as a woman and fighting a non-wrestler over a tiara and sash. Oh yeah, and they threw pig slop at each other. Worst of all, this "match" was wasting time on a PPV. I'm a fan of Vickie being an on screen character, and I think Santino is funny, sometimes. But this was just awful.

I missed the Era of Brock & Goldberg. (It was during my, "without Owen I dont watch much WWE action" deal.) But what I just witnessed was pretty shit.

Within the past couple years:

Chavo vs Hornswaggle- I mean, come on. I know it's supposed to be funny, but it is really not. How many times can we watch a midget beat up a crybaby who wants more than anything to grow up to be like his uncle Eddie?

Mickie James vs ANYONE - I am glad she got sandbagged to lose her title. The spot looked a bit stiff and I am glad. She had trouble working with just about any wrestler in the industry. Her DDT is a team performed move, but she snaps it too hard sometimes.

:wtf: Umm ooook as far as that goes...

I wont say Chavo/Hornswoggle cause it's to easy to say that. Hogan vs Sid Vicious from WM 8 comes to mind here. It was billed as a Main Event and at Wrestle Freakin Mania! It was terrible from bell to bell, the ending saved that clusterfu** of a Match.

First off you're right about Chavo/Hornswoggle. That's obvious and not the intention of this thread. I won't even mention that horrible Jackie Gayda match on raw a few years ago (although I just did:shrug:) I think this is more for matches that had at least decent hype and failed to deliver. What do you really expect from Hornswoggle?

With that said I agree with Hogan vs. Sid. This was an awful match that didn't have any flow to it. Another bad one was Sid vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 13. How about that. Sid has appeared in two WrestleManias. Both were main events and both were against proven legends. Both matches were awful and were the two worst main events in WrestleMania history. Doesn't say much about Sid.

One more that comes to mind is Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho from No Way Out 2002. I'm am surprised and disappointed that I would mention a match between two great wrestlers in this thread. Maybe I need to give this match another look. I was at the event live and I'm not sure if I ever watched it on tv. From what I remember it was full of chops and superplexes and not much else. I remember the crowd was actually chanting "boring". We're talking about Stone Cold Steve Austin and the fans were chanting "boring". Not good.

Well, if throw out the gimmick matches. If you throw out the celebrities and sports stars. If you thow out matches you expected to be bad.

Most of my memories go to Ultimate Warrior. UW vs Pap Shango. UW vs Honkey Tonk Man.

But honestly, the worst match is one that some might call one of the best. Mick Foley v The Rock in the I Quit match. Those chair shots and Foley's kids. I know Mick thought it would be great, but it was truly horrible to watch.

DaGhost

Can't really think of a clear winner, but one that sticks out in my mind was between Petey Williams and Jay Lethal at No Surrender 2006. This was during the time that Jay, Chris Sabin, and Sonjay Dutt were into doing Jackass 2 type pranks on other wrestlers.

Needless to say, one of the wrestlers (can't remember who) kayfabe crapped their pants because they ingested laxatives or something...doesn't matter. Yes, and the announcers went so far as to put it over, mentioning that they could smell the stink of poopy at the broadcast table, etc. etc. I just felt sorry for the guys in the ring, as they had to go along with this farce.

This was also the PPV where TNA announced that Kurt Angle was joining the company. Wonder if he thought to himself, "WTF am I getting into?"

Worst match? I'd say Hogan v Warrior from HH 98 is definately up there. As is Brock v Goldberg from Mania. But I'd have to say the worst match of all time was Buff Bagwell v Booker T for the WCW Championship on RAW.

It was the first time a WCW match had ever been held on RAW, and those two (really just Bagwell) stunk the place out big time. You can see half the arena leaving to go get snacks and beer during the match. I actually felt embarressed for Booker, who deserved better.

The worst match I believe I have ever witnessed live was the Infamous Mixed Tag Match between Bradshaw and Trish Stratus against Christopher Nowinski and Jackie Gayda from Raw in Philadelphia.

So many missed spots in that match because of Jackie, it was just unreal. I remember watching the match after I got home on TV and hearing Ross say "Mercifully, it's over" at the 3 count which I thought was hysterical.

That one has to take the cake. "THAT Jackie Gayda Match" will pretty much go down as the worst in history... ever... and ever. But it features women... and not to bash women in any way, but their matches are always much less interesting and much less competitive than the males. One of the best women's matches of all time was Trish/Mickie at WM22 but doesn't even come close to a mediocre male superstars match. With that said... there's also some elaboration that needs done to this thread.

Can it be a gimmick match? Or does it have to be a straight up wrestling match? If it can be a gimmick match... I have to go with Sonjay Dutt/Jay Lethal at Hard Justice 2008. They were dressed in tuxes, chained together, and had to rip the tuxes off each other. Essentially making it a bra and panties match... with men... chained together... to limit their movement. I was in attendance at that PPV and it was indeed a crapfest of a match. Also noteworthy is pretty much any match where the competitors are blindfolded. Sadly... there has been more than one of these.

Straight wrestling match that isn't THAT Jackie Gayda Match... I to would have to say Warrior/Hogan at HH98. Trying to rekindle their match from WM6... just a terrible idea. It was a botchfest. It was very tough to watch or even get excited about. Just terrible.

Yep i would have to agree with the few peeps who said the Hogan v Warrior match from Halloween Havoc. The first match at WM6 was enjoyable but from what i heard it took weeks of rehearsing, is that correct?

The rematch was a match with so much bad chemistry and missed spots and was sluggish. It was like they wanted to recreate the enjoyable match, but without the rehearsing and effort. I think it was more so to try and sell buy rates for the ppv. As soon as people saw Hogan/Warrior people would be like 'wow' and would pay to watch.

I just remember the Hogan fire thing in the corner where it blew up in his face. lol

To be honest right from the build up, when DDP informed Hogan there was one person he hadn't beaten, i knew from then this would not have a pretty ending.

Did Warrior leave WCW after this crappy match? Or did he stick around for another few matches?

Worst match I've ever seen was anything with Jackie Gayda in it...

In response to anyone who says Hogan/Warrior at Halloween Havoc 98 was the worst match ever. I've seen way worse matches practically every week on Raw. It is just so popular to say this is the worst match ever. Though it wasn't the best, it certainly wasn't the worst. And most people will blame it on Warrior for being so terrible. I actually think if anyone's timing was off it was Hogan's. With the exception of Warrior doing that weird bouncy thing mid match, most of the fault was on Hogan. Besides Warrior was coming off an injury to his bicep. Not to make excuses for him, but he didn't do half a bad a job as Hogan.

Another bad match I can remember is the David Arquette match, and some Jim Powers matches in the 80's. I remember going to live shows and watching a Jim Powers match and he'd take a blow to the gut before it even connected!

Come on guys, is like non of you watched TNA, the company is good but the worst match happened there a few months ago? Don't know what I am talking about? probably your brain erased that moment for your own safety but here iti si:

The worst match ever was Sharmell VS Jenna Morasca. After that I would take the Gayda's match over this crap any day. It was awful from Morasca's entrace (I really don't know what they were trying to acomplish there but definetely it was not sexy at all) to Morasca's lame way to go to the ropes, to her lame slaps to the crappy pin. Not even Awesome Kong was able to save that crap sinc Morasca didn't know how to even sell the freaking splash Kong delivered, look it up at youtube...no better don't do if you know what is best for you.

And another, Mysterio VS Khali, I mean that one sucked far beyond mercy, Mysterio was against a wall and one move later from that Mountain, The World Champion was down for the count. Unreal.

I got to agree that Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca match was God Awful. I knew we couldn't expect much from it but that was painful to watch.

I think some other honorable mentions go to any divas match on Raw the past few weeks and Triple H vs. Scott Steiner at Royal Rumble 2000 for the championship. Fans were shitting all over that match. No one wanted to sell anything.

Any match with Chavo and Hornswoggle, and the blindfold match at Lockdown 2 years back with James Storm and Chris Harris. The Dungeon of Doom was pretty terrible too.

Agreed with the nomination of Steiner vs HHH at the Royal Rumble. How many no-sells and botched double-underhook suplexes can there be in a single match?

Hogan vs Warrior at Halloween Havoc was horrible, too.

I don't have the knowledge to go all time, but I'll go with recent match, in recent memory, pass on the obvious Hornswoggle vs Chavo matches and proclaim the Kane vs Khali Singapore Cane match as dreadfully horrifying.

I've seen some awful matches over the years, and I'd have to say that the Divas Battle Royal this year is the worst match of all time. There was no build-up, no entrances, no introductions, and the match itself was absolutely horrible. Most of the eliminations were just clotheslines over the ropes, and there wasn't any reason to watch. The ending of it kicked off the worst gimmick/character ever, and ended up wasting 10 minutes a week on it.

Note the topic guys and gals. He said the worst match you've ever seen, not the worst match of all time. I've seen a lot of matches, hard to tell. I gotta go with Rob though, Lesnar vs Goldberg. The match was bound to be a stinker. Neither one of them tried at all to put on a good match, they stood there and gave each other the stank eye forever and that took any kind of hype that was left in the match out completely. Goldberg half-assed that match and Lesnar didn't even attempt to have a good match. Everyone knew they were both leaving and the highlight of that whole match was the Stunners. Austin was pretty much laughing his ass off. Lesnar acted like a douche towards the crowd and Goldberg was just zombiefied. That's the worst I can think of at this moment..

has to be the rockers vs. the hart foundation 2 out of 3 falls. the top rope broke during the match and well i think i make my point there

Well, I continue to say it, Morasca VS Sharmell, it even hurts to remember that match.

And if we go at big stages, Goldberg VS Lesnar, but at least that one had it's funny moments, like when the crowd started to chant Austin's name and Goldberg and Lesnar started to stare at him like "What the Fuck?".

And the Stunners, and then Austin Flipping Goldberg off when he was like calling him back to the ring after the Stunner, that was priceless.

i have to go with the Divas Battle Royal at WM 25. Simply horrifying. You have absolutely no build up. Seriously? Cmon that was a Mania match. It had poor aftermath. It was embarrassing to watch.
