The UConn Women lost - Streak ends at 90

Okay, they're not about to lose...yet. But they are down 9 points with 10 minutes to go, AT Stanford.

May be watching history...

EDIT: It's on ESPN 2.

What would you, as a coach, do to try to mount a comeback right now?

You just try to play your game. You try to disrupt the Stanford offense with some different defensive looks, but you just have to play your game. There is no such thing as a 8 point play. There's plenty of time, you just have to work your way back in.

Well said. I'm thinking maybe crash the boards a little harder and play defense more aggressively (don't foul them). Also, they can't get too comfortable out on the perimeter. Sure, they just got a three, but they need to get to the rim.

Not a coach but back when I was in middle school the coach there was also my math teacher. He didn't really like talking about math so we'd wind up talking about basketball. His theory was that you consider each play like a game/competition. You win more of those than the other team does and you win the game eventually. Take each one individually and try to get a single win at a time.

It's not crashing the boards that's hurting them, it's block off on the boards. Since I started watching with 10 minutes to go, Stanford has 4 or 5 offensive rebounds. And UConn has taken numerous ill-advised shots.

You can play defense more aggressively, but that would make a person wonder why they haven't been all along.

They need a good look, no matter where it is. I don't know anything about UConn, but it is an elite level college program, so I would assume they have players who can shoot anywhere on the floor. Run your offense and get good shots, don't settle for poor shots like Moore just took that barely caught iron.

I want it to reach 100. Doubt that will happen with the way its looking. UConn's jacking up useless 3's.

By the way, the layup they were just talking about, where the UConn player let the girl get behind her for a layup...that's the most frustrating play in the world for a coach. It's so hard not to look at the player and say "are you stupid"? I've seen it on a few different occasions.

That's how a player should look at it. A coach has to approach the game differently though.

Yes, that too, I just think that they're not being aggressive enough on the offensive boards either.

If they keep throwing up threes they can't exactly get into their offense. They have to try to spread the floor, but that's not working, so they have to go inside.

Getting more interesting now. Expect Moore to get to the rim and try to draw some fouls.

I started watching around 10 minutes to go in this game. Since then Maya Moore has looked TERRIBLE. Almost like she's trying to tank the game (I'm not suggesting that, just giving an example of how badly she's played).

2 things about this game:

1) The shame is that people will spend all their time talking about how big this loss is and will ignore how impressive their streak was.

2) I would hate to be a UConn women's basketball player tomorrow. All of these bad shots, all of these terrible decisions and all of these offensive rebounds they've given up...it's going to be track practice tomorrow.

Holy shit...of their 90 wins, they won 88 of them by double-digits. That's fucking phenomenal.

Do you rank this streak above UCLA? I know they had more wins, but I can't...

Sure I do, they won more games, how can you not rank it above UCLA?
