The Technology Troubleshooting Thread

How much does anyone know about "hacking" your DVD player to play multiple regions? I've been trying to research how to unlock my player for a while now and can't seem to get it right.

It happens on other sites also.

I'd recommend uninstalling Firefox, and doing a complete install. That means going into the AppData folder in your User account, and deleting the Mozilla folder from there as well.

First, uninstall Firefox from Windows.

Then if you have Windows 7 (and I believe Windows Vista does the same), Click your Start button. In the search field, type "%APPDATA%" (without the quotation marks) and press enter. Look for the Mozilla folder. As long as Firefox is the only Mozilla product you're using, you can just delete the Mozilla folder. If you're using other Mozilla products (like Thunderbird, for example), go in and just delete the FireFox folder.

Re-install Firefox 4.0.1 and see what happens.

Nothing still. I have a friend who uses Google chrome and the same thing happens except everything is in italics.

On a different computer? Or on yours?

Easier to hack the DVD than the player, I would assume. Especially since hacking the DVD to make it region free requires very little work. The only thing is you'll have to put it on a blank DVD, instead of the pressed one you got from the store.

EDIT: Did a little more research, and apparently the hack depends upon the model of player you have.

On my computer and his.

Have you checked your font options in Firefox? It's in the Options menu, under content.

That is what I have.

Then I would think it'd have to be a font issue. What happens if you uncheck the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts..."?

I did the same research but apprently I cannot find a hack for my model player.

It changes the fonts but it looks smaller. I tried changing it back and it has stayed bold.

Then just hack the disc. How many discs do you have this problem with?

I burned a bunch of discs made by Silver Vision; a region 2 video company.

If I was going to try to transfer all the material on a flash drive to another one, what's the fastest way to go about doing that?

Just the way you would think it'd be. If you have two USB ports on your computer, you can move them that way, moving them from one drive to the other from the My Computer screen.. If not, move them to a temporary folder on your desktop, and then move them to the new drive.

I would... if I knew how. I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink.

DVD Decrypter should rip them region free. Or was it DVD Shrink which burns them region free? I forget, but I know one of them does.

EDIT: It's in DVD Shrink, when you choose your Backup Options. There's a Region tab.

I think I tried all of the settings and can't find anything that allows me to change the region.

Sly the keyboard on my laptop is starting to go to hell on me, is there a way to replace it, or would I be better of buying a new laptop

Justinsayne, just buy one that plugs into your USB port. Cheapest ones go for $10, if you could find them.

You could probably plug in a USB keyboard and use that instead of the laptop keyboard. It might require you to turn off the laptop keyboard, but I would think it would probably work. I'm too lazy to pull my laptop out right now and try.
