The Sports Bar

Because they still have a little to learn still i'd assume. It probably depends what side of rebuilding your on, are you over the hump looking for one or two pieces that can take you there or are you full on rebuilding where you need a full reset

Damnit, KB, you're supposed to make a thread. Wish the O's could've gotten that kind of performance out of Gausman today. Ah well, I guess an 8.5 game lead is okay.

Someone mentioned today that now with the Adrian Peterson story added on top of the Ray Rice story that this has been the worst week ever for the NFL in regards to media relations. Obviously the NFL can't be happy about what's gone down but does it really matter? Over the past few years they have dealt with Michael Vick's dog fighting, Ben Roethlisberger's sexual assault charges, the New Orleans Saints bounties, Aaron Hernandez being arrested for murder, Richie Incognito's hazing of Jonathan Martin, the Washington Redskins name controversy, and all the problems with concussions. Add Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson to the list and that's just stuff off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more that I haven't mentioned. Despite it all the NFL continues to become more and more popular. Sure, people can be upset about what's going on, but they continue to watch more than ever. Nothing can stop the NFL right now.

Isn't it weird how less than 2 years ago, Javon Belcher murdered his girlfriend then killed himself in the Arrowhead parking lot and no one seems to remember? I think most women would prefer being knocked out to being murdered.

Yeah that is weird. I knew I was forgetting at least one big one. Probably more.

You're right; NFL officials tell us they're outraged by the actions of these athletes, but really, it's just about damage control. They understand who their players are and that the privileges they've enjoyed since their prodigious athletic talent was first discovered (probably in their teens) has led them to believe they can do anything they want and get away scot-free.

In the past, this was often true, but with today's media coverage, it's much harder.....and under political correctness, these athletes are probably baffled they're being hassled about stuff that never even made the papers years ago.

Aside from the Javon Belcher murder incident, most of the stuff that happens today in the "worst week ever for the NFL" is probably small potatoes compared to what these guys used to get away with. Years ago, I read in David Meggyesy's book "Out of Their League" that when he played football at Syracuse, the athletic department employed an official whose job it was to clean up after the athletes' did everything from cheating on exams to impregnating the mayor's daughter. Never mind the incident making the papers; the player wasn't even punished.

Back then, the media wouldn't even have covered a player spanking his child with a wooden stick or roughing up his girlfriend in an elevator. The "worst week ever for the NFL" probably would have been considered just another day at the office.

Yes, it's good that these guys are being held accountable for their actions, but it's the media and law enforcement that's responsible for this. For the NFL, it's business as usual......and as Brain said, nothing can stop the NFL.

Chris Davis is making the most of his time off. He helped save a man's life today:

Dare we call him... Christ Davis?

I dare.

MLB needs to reconsider his suspension. That guy would be dead if Chris Davis was clean.

Heroes should definitely get a pass. The questionable origins of Captain America's powers didn't disqualify him for The Avengers, and Chex Lemeneux of the Miracle on Ice US men's hockey team got to keep his medal even after he admitted to steroid use and to being an alien in disguise. Major League Baseball needs to follow suit.

The Vikings have predictably reversed their stance on Adrian Peterson. He's barred from all team activities. Once the sponsors started speaking up it was only a matter of time.

My biggest objection in instances in which the athlete claims to have "made a mistake" when he took amphetamines is how they repair their images with the public. Davis said he "made a mistake", and it's a crock of crap. The dictionary says a "mistake" is performing a wrongful action not having realized it was wrong. If you're adding up a series of numbers on an adding machine and insert an incorrect number, therefore bringing an incorrect total....that's a mistake because you didn't know you had entered the wrong number. The error was unintentional.

What Davis did was no mistake. He took amphetamines, knowing he was violating the terms of his contract and hoping he wouldn't be discovered. There was no mistake.

You can understand why the player's lawyers and PR people want him to publicly confess to a mistake; they figure people will read the account and say: "Hey, everybody makes mistakes. So Chris Davis made one, too. He's just human, right?"

The truth lies elsewhere, but as long as Chris Davis can hit a baseball, he'll be fine. It's good he caught a significant penalty, yet I imagine that one of us getting caught by our employers doing stuff like this would result in far greater sanctions.

It pays to be rich and famous.

He took Adderall, and he had an exemption for it last season. The mistake was in not ensuring he got another exemption to use it this year. Of course, since he's a slugger, everyone's been waiting to pounce on him for some PED. The league can nail him to this cross, but he'll be reborn in the postseason. Repent ye nonbelievers.

If we confess our sins, Christ Davis is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I have a suspicion that the pitching rotation of the O's first round opponent will be full of sinners. They'd better ask for forgiveness..

..before it's too late.

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins from Christ Davis.

Just read probably the funniest thing ever. Shonn Greene apparently got arrested for fleeing the scene of a traffic incident. Apparently he parked in a handicap spot, and when a cop tried writing him a ticket...he got in his car and drove way. L...o...l.

Also in other news apparently Joe Maddon is leaving the Rays. Wonder who's gonna scoop him up. No idea why, but he opted out of his contract. Rays are done for awhile. They got ripped off in that David Price deal bad, and they just lost a pretty decent manager for them too.

I can't blame him for leaving. Arguably (sorry I don't think there's much of an argument) the best manager in baseball, and he was making $2M a year and they are hiring a new GM and the team is on the way down.

He got out before the talent completely runs dry. There should be 29 teams looking to hire him, including teams who just hired someone. I'm hoping the Yankees literally hand him a blank check. I'd give him $10M a year for 4 years.

Bump for Odell Beckham.
quick look at this before the NFL takes it down.

Holy fuck best catch ever?

Oh, and to combine 2 mark-out moments in one, here you go. I used Paint because it's all I have, and I kinda suck at this stuff, but you get the idea, and naturally Beckham would have caught the ball too.
