Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter in baseball and one of the greatest hitters of all time. Obviously 10 years is a long time but Dave Dombrowski said it best: "I didn't want to lose him." This article is a good read:

They said the same thing about Pujols and the Cards lost him. Look what good it did them, they won the series without him and he is a shell of his former self 1 year into the deal. Now the Angels are stuck with that albatross for another 8 years.

I must have missed it when Miguel Cabrera turned into Albert Pujols and the Tigers became the Cardinals. Two different players and two different teams.

Just pointing out that 10 year deals for guys 30+ don't work. And Pujols and Cabrera were in pretty much identical situations, super-elite hitters turn 30 and get massive contracts.

Clearly you don't understand the idea of comparing 2 recent events. 2 elite hitters of similar age sign massive contracts of equal length. They bear comparison. and the comparison isn't good.

Similarly, A-Rods 2nd 10 year deal has proven to not be very good, and Prince Fielder's 9 year deal was so good the Tigers dumped him onto Texas 2 disappointing years in. The only 10 year deal worth anything was A-Rods first 10 year deal (2001-2010 which he opted out of in 2007). He put up great numbers throughout the life of the contract. He's the only one to ever do it and that's because he was in his mid 20's.

Oh, and if you think this tail end of this contract is good for the Tigers then you really are stupid. This will be a good contract for 3 years tops, then he'll start to underperform the contract before becoming a salary albatross for the last few years. Much like virtually every super-long contract for a 30 year old ever.

The Tigers will live to regret this deal. Big-time.

I understand the Cubs are a pitiful team right now. I accept that, but they played two games today and could not score a single run:disappointed:

For you baseball fans and film critics, I made a top ten list of my favorite baseball films

http://forums.wrestlezone.com/showpost.php?p=4860655&postcount=599

It's a little different than most, and in the post above I talked about the movies I haven't seen, and other that made the list.

Like I said it's probably a little different, but everyone has a differing opinion I suppose.

I liked The Fan too but I remember that getting slammed by critics. Good movie but I'm surprised it was number one on your list. Another one I liked that wasn't popular with most people was For Love Of The Game. I thought that one told a nice story. A lot of people thought it was corny or boring but I liked it.

They ran into the buzzsaw that is Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda. They stood no chance.

3 starts in for both and they look great. Pineda has already done in 3 starts more then Montero did for the Mariners in 2 seasons since the trade. Of course the one thing Montero did more of then Pineda is eat, based on their conditioning when reporting to camp.

I was between The Fan and Moneyball. Went with The Fan since it's older and I like De Niro more than Brad Pitt. Great movie all around, has a lot of solid components that other baseball films lacked.

Thinking about it though Moneyball probably outshines The Fan in the end. The Fan, while a baseball movie, is more focused on the emotional downfall of De Niro and the struggles of Snipe's character. Moneyball is all around baseball the whole time, so it falls more into the discussion.

Also the problem with the Cubs is, while their farm system is loaded with some pretty rock solid bats, they have no pitching at all. CJ Edwards looks good, but I think he's the only one I liked in their system, and he still has a couple years down there. So with no pitching, specifically bullpen more than anything but their rotation isn't anything better, I don't like their future especially because that NL Central is stacked right now.

Anyone else think it's kinda bullshit that Derek Jeter gets to be in the All Star game? It's supposed to be based on how guys are doing this year. Future HOF or not, the guy is not worthy of being in the game this year. There are players performing better than he is this year, and they're getting snubbed because Jeter has to have his spot in the lineup.

Kind of ridic in my opinion, but then again I don't like Jeter or the Yankees.

I used to think like that but I've changed my mind. Jeter should be there. This is an exhibition for the fans and the fans voted him in. I would rather see a feel good sendoff for one of the all time greats than Alexei Ramirez because he's had a pretty good three months. Besides, it's not like any other shortstops are really killing it this year. I think the bigger load of bullshit is Matt Wieters getting voted in to start. He is out for the year and hasn't played since May 10. Why did people continue to vote for him?

You see I wouldn't really have that much of a problem with it, if the game didn't have something on the line. Home field advantage in the World Series is a big deal, and each team should have the best players in their on both sides. It's not just an exhibition game.

You can't make it for the fans, and make it have something on the line. Have one or the other. The fans voting isn't that important to me. I'd rather the players solely decide the team, because the fans are bias. Like in this situation with Jeter.

The players aren't much better. They left Sale and Kinsler off the roster, which is ridiculous.

And I don't mind him being included. He's a legend and future HOF in his final season. He can get a nice send off and it's not a big deal since he's likely only getting 2 ABs and 3-4 innings so he's not going to have a profound impact on the game.

If the All-Star game is going to be voted on by fans, it's inevitable it's going to be a joke in some cases.

I'd very much like it if MLB selected an "All MLB roster" at the end of the year, just like the NBA does.

It's called an All STAR game, not an All "best half season" game.

Derek Jeter is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest STAR in all of Major League Baseball. Couple that with this being his final season and you're damn right be belongs in the All Star Game.

There's no way a guy with a wRC+ of 80 and is coming off a season with a wRC+ of 40 and plays for a team that probably won't make the playoffs should be starting in a game that awards home field advantage in the World Series. If it means nothing, sure, let him play, but he has no business being in a game that matters.
