The Sports Bar

I think that's retribution for your 7 walk off wins and 22-14 record in 1 run ballgames.

Pittsburgh Pirates: 9 walk-off wins, and 28 comeback wins. The result? 70-44, the best record in baseball.

And we shut you out twice and took 3 of 4 from you.
I see the annual July Indians collapse was delayed until August this year :suspic:

Not done yet. The Indians could easily grab a Wild Card spot. Your Tigers are just on fire right now.

:lmao: don't live off small sample sizes. Tigers are the better team. Good to see them doing well though.

Yeah, but it's too easy to pick on Cleveland. I mean, it's Cleveland. It writes itself.

Never. My path is difficult, but worthwhile.

Never... I'd rather root for the reds than the indians. And trust me that's hard for me to say. I'm a cubs and tigers fan, both life long. Its the Yankees and sox tied for first. Both teams could save a burning orphanage and I would give no fucks. I laughed when Jeeter broke his ankle last year.

And then its the fucking indians, and then the reds.

Thank you Cubs for Alfonso Soriano.

He's on fire like very few have ever been on fire as of late. Good God almighty. 18 RBI in 4 games, tied an MLB record.

You're welcome for Mark Reynolds too.
I don't expect that to last. Love that he hit a homer in his first AB though. Plus he got cut because he earned it. Soriano was still pretty solid when the Cubs traded him (it was the right move, granted they gave the Yanks too much money).

If Reynolds is on the playoff roster I'd be shocked. Happy, but shocked.

Reynolds put me through an emotional roller coaster. I didn't like it a lot at first, as I'm really not crazy about high strikeout guys in any context - to me, they're doomed to fall off the wagon eventually. Then he exploded in April and I was like, "Wow! Best signing ever!" Then his utterly miserable slump where it was just like, "Oh, Reynolds is up, let's see what new way he can not get this run in." Not to mention that during his slump he played a lot of the field, especially at third, and he's just terrible at that. I'm not sorry to see him go.

I really cannot see him sustaining much success in New York. The park will help him as it helps most hitters, sure. But I just don't see him hitting much more than maybe another 5-8 home runs, and there's certainly no hope for him getting his average up or his strikeouts down.

Also, I agree that the Soriano acquisition was a good idea for the Yankees. In a context neutral environment, it'd have been silly, but it's the Yankees. Not only can they not rebuild, they have to satiate a very demanding fanbase, and Soriano is still a solid player.

That's sort of the issue for the Yankees right now. A lot of solid players, too few great ones. They remind me of the Indians in that regard, actually, right down to both of them having their best player at second base.

I doubt they are expecting him to hit better then .230 for the Yankees. I think they expect him to hit some homers. And he won't be playing a lot since Overbay (thanks for cutting him Boston) is there too. They will probably do a lefty/righty platoon at first, and MAYBE he will see a game or 2 at 3rd when A-Rod gets a day off. If he hits 8 homers in a part time role that'd be awesome.

Not just that, but they also had a desperate need for OF help at the time (Granderson was hurt still and Wells was/is playing like shit). And in a context neutral environment it made sense because the Yankees aren't paying him much of anything, didn't give up anything special, and he's an improvement on the 2013 and 2014 roster.

The big differences between the 2 is the whole old stars vs. young kids thing and the Bullpen. Especially the closer. 2013 Mo >>>>>>>>> Chris Perez. Hell, 2023 Mo (when he's 53) >>>>>> Chris Perez.

And by the way, now that the Yankees are healthy (well, mostly), watch out. They're 5 out in the Wild Card (7 in Division) and play all but 9 remaining games against the AL East (19 total games against the Astros/Giants/White Sox/Blue Jays, all of whom suck this year). If they can play better baseball then (2 of the 3) Indians/Royals/A's and beat Baltimore/Tampa themselves they are in the playoffs.

I have a tough time seeing the Yankees making any noise in the playoffs. They made an alright addition with Soriano over what they had, but the guy obviously can't keep up a pace like this. They'll probably land in around the 83-85 win total and miss the Wild Card by a few teams. I expect the Wild Card to be 2nd place East vs. 2nd place West, but I won't count out the Royals/Indians since they have many games against cupcakes late in the year.

So apparently you don't get ejected for intentionally trying to hit a batter not once, but FOUR fucking times.... Instead, both teams get warned so that there can be no retaliation. Regardless of how you feel about A-Rod, trying to bean repeatedly is pathetic.

Ryan Dempster should be suspended 10 games (he's a starter, so that's 1 start). Oh, and he'll fucking appeal it so that he can play and John Lackey can look like an even bigger piece of shit then he already is.

Oh, and the best retaliation is what happened in the 6th, when A-Rod hammered the baseball over the Center Field Wall and had a nice lengthy stand on the plate and point at the sky.

Fuck Ryan Dempster. No good piece of dog shit.

As much as I don't care for the Yankees, yeah, the umpires really fucked up that ruling by not only waiting for him to get hit before issuing warnings, but by not ejecting Dempster right away and essentially taking away the inside of the plate for Sabathia for doing nothing.

Really sets a bad precedent as it makes it look like it can be open season on A-Rod which, PEDs or not, isn't right.

Seems to me like the Ump was trying to appeal to the court of public opinion. The problem is his job is to be completely unbiased. I'd hope to see the MLB issue a statement saying that Ump screwed up.

He should probably get a suspension and/or fine as well. Doubt he gets the former, but the latter should come. More umps have to be held accountable for their actions (looking at you, Angel Hernandez...)

I wish more umps were like the one who caused the 28 out no-hitter (Don't remember his name). He admitted almost immediately he blew the call. That's a man right there. Much respect.

Jim Joyce. That's correct, he's the fucking man.

Not to mention when he calls balls and strikes his strike call can be heard from 5 miles away.

Umps making loud screams for strikes is a pet peeve of mine. There was some ump in the LLWS that was going ballistic and I couldn't watch it past the first half inning it was so intolerable. Just make the call and move on. No need to draw attention to yourself.

I know Yasiel Puig has been the talk of the town but I'm thinking Jose Fernandez should be the leading candidate for NL Rookie of the Year.
