The Sports Bar

That 9th ruined my night. I was sweating the game and watching a good Raw and then after one pitch I knew we were in trouble. That's what's so annoying. We had momentum and could have set the tone for the series. Now this happens.

I was feeling the frustration for the first 8 innings. Miggy basically running like my grandpa right now and playing 3rd doesn't help matters much. Still, with as much struggles as the Tigers have had in the late innings this year it's great to see them finally pull one out.

And I agree with you that Perez is terrible. Hell the "closer" spot and "save" stat are terrible.

It baffles me every time I hear him praised. I don't remember the last time he had a 1-2-3 9th. It's ridiculous but none of the other relievers are any beter.

Taking a quick look at his stats he's clearly been a bit fortunate. In a small sample size like relievers get that's obviously not out of the ordinary, but even throughout his career he's never been as good as his ERA suggests.

Not at all. I watch the ESPN scores page and see the updates. He's ALWAYS letting people get on or a single run in and gets lucky to get them out. The rest of the bullpen is terrible too.

It's not fair that this has to happen just 12 years and two days after the comeback over the Mariners. I need to get a VCR so I can watch the tape of that.

If anyone understands losing, it's this soon-to-be 31 year old who's been a Pirates fan for 20+ years.

It seems like were finally going to break through, because our pitching is too good.

But the "fool me twice" aspect of me keeps waiting for the bottom to drop out. Fortunately, we're 25 games over .500 and have the best bullpen in baseball.

Francisco Liriano should be in the picture for the CY Young. He's been that darn good. 12-4, 1.15 WHIP, 2.02 ERA. About as good as it gets, other then Kershaw, who's going to win it irregardless.

13 games LSN till a winning season. It's almost there I can feel it. Knocking on wood but this year feels different than others.

Pitching. We have Burnett, Liriano, Locke, Cole, and Morton, with Wandy Rodriguez almost healthy and Jenmar Gomez and Brandon Cumpton waiting in the wings should one of the starting 5 falters.

Then there's Melancon, Wilson, Watson, Morris, Mazzaro and, when healthy, Jason Grilli, that make up the best bullpen in baseball. Thanks, Red Sox, for running Melancon out of town. He only has the best ERA of relievers in baseball. .84 in 50+ innings.

We still can't hit much, but we're clutch. Time and time again, our hitters come through when it counts. And if it comes down to a battle of the bullpens, it's shown to be Pirates > anyone else. I think ultimately the Cards overtake us because of our inconsistent hitting, but we get the Wild Card spot.

Doggone, it feels good to be a Buccos fan right now. 25 games over .500.

I know I'm extremely pumped. I'm going to the game on the 16th I believe and am super pumped cause it'll be the first game in a very long time where I seriously believe we're headed for the playoffs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this season but if we can keep up the clutch play dreams might turn into reality.

It would be nice to see the Pirates have some post season success this year. Especially considering some other disappointing aspects of post season activity in the state of Pennsylvania this year :)

Burnett's scheduled to pitch there, I believe. His stint on the DL was the best thing that could have happened to him. He's come back seemingly rested and better then ever, and he's been getting run support. His curveball has been nearly unhittable, and his control spectacular..

Give A.J. a lead, and it's almost a lock the Pirates win. We're talking clutch, he's about as much as it gets.

Id love to see a Pirates/Red Sox World Series, if for no other reason then to get another shot at a name-change bet with you. :p But it's somewhat sad that as a very long-suffering Pirates fan who remembers Bonds failing to throw out 95 year old Sid Bream at the plate, I'd be happy with a winning season.

Anything else would be pure bliss.

I'm not taking on any name change bet on behalf of the Red Sox. I'm a Patriots fan, a Celtics fan, and of course a Bruins fan, but while I don't hate them or anything, I'm not a fan of the Boston Red Sox.

You forgot about Matt Harvey. 9-3, 2.09 ERA, 0.86 WHIP on a crap Mets team. And considering they give the award to players on crap teams (see Dickey, R.A.) he's more then in the race, he could be leading it.

You're welcome.

He never would have been that good in New York. Couldn't handle the market. Still rooting for him to succeed, always liked him with the Yankees, even though he was wildly inconsistent then.

Fuck you. Here I was hoping for a Yankee/Pirates World Series so you and the pirate fans can have something special (as in the Yankees sweeping you just like in the 1927 World Series), but now you went and wanted to see the evil Red Sox. For shame, LSN, for shame.
