So, I'm not really a big fan of baseball, but I've always have had this huge affection for the Seattle Mariners since Ken Griffey, Jr. played there. Anyways, Ichiro has been my favorite player for years and years and I was happy to see him have such a great game today in Japan. Even at 38 that guy is an absolute beast. I really, really hope the Mariners can put one playoff contending season together before he retires.

Tell me about it. I hope today was an indication that Ichiro is back and that last year was just a fluke. I love the guy.

I expect the Mariners to be contenders in a few years. It's unclear how long Ichiro has but I'd say he'll play into his 40s, and I sure hope he does. He's never really shown any signs of deteriorating with age other than an off season last year that remains to be seen whether it was an anomaly or not.

Yeah, it was nice for Ichiro to win in Japan.

If he wants to win a playoff game, he'd have to get traded somewhere though. Seattle isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They are rebuilding.

On another note, the Mariners are in First Place.

The problem is that his biggest asset is his legs. He's 38-39. The legs will slow down soon. Once he does, he'll have to adjust his game somewhat to be a viable player still. I hope he can, but who knows.

Knicks (without Lin and Amar'e) just totally dominated the Magic.

Lead was as high as 39 in the 3rd quarter, called off the dogs and won by 22. Melo had 25 points in 26 minutes (held out of the 4th quarter due to the blowout) on the strained groin.

They made a good team look bad. If they can get to the 6 and avoid Miami/Chicago, they may be able to get to the 2nd round. And if they have to face one of those 2, they could win a game or 2.

Oh, and Rangers win again, and have the best record in the NHL. Madison Square Garden is mighty happy right now.

True. Supposedly he's had the ability to hit for power his whole career and he just never did since he was focused on getting on base. Perhaps if his legs go, he can spend an offseason/spring retooling himself and become a solid DH for his last couple of years.

Actually the Knicks are closer to the 4 seed then the 6 seed. They are just 2.5 games behind Philly for the division lead. Either way I don't see them getting up to the 4 spot. They have been great lately but are too inconsistent on the whole and there is only 15 games left in the regular season. If they don't win the division then they would be better off playing Chi Town. The Knicks just aren't good enough to beat Miami but they have a chance against the Bulls if Derek Rose is less then 100%.

The win against Orlando is nice but the Magic are the most up and down team in the league. Earlier this season they lost at Boston by 31, at Charlotte (the worst team in the NBA) by 16, and at home to the Chicago Bulls (without Derek Rose) by 26.

Yeah, I totally forgot about the division thing. They could get there. If i remember correctly, the Knicks have the tiebreaker over the 76ers (and will at seasons end). If they get the division, I'd be almost surprised if they don't win in the 1st round.

The one thing though is that they've been consistent since Woodson took over. When it was only 3 games it's just a fluke, but it's been 9 games and they're 8-1, including 5 double digit wins. If they keep playing D like they've been under Woodson, they might be a tough team to beat. Especially if Whitey (Steve Novak) keeps draining 3's and doing Discount Double-Checks.

I thought that. They still are a good team though (they are the 3 seed). I didn't think they were playing all that well tonight, but that doesn't mean the Knicks weren't on all cylinders.

As a Magic fan, that game was beyond painful to watch. You never know what you're going to get when the Magic play. They're so inconsistent. Tonight's game was horrible.

Greg Williams is a fucking moron.

There's fucking audio of him telling his team to injure people.

They weren't hidden camera's and recording devices. They had been filming stuff the entire season. No way in hell he didn't know that this would be recorded. How stupid can you be?

Not even just injuring, he specifically mentions going for the head, twisting the helments, hitting Alex Smith's chin, basically everything that would get flagged as a 15 yard penalty and/or cause players to get fined for doing...all the while Goodell is trying to eliminate head related injuries as best he can in order to fend off the litigation from former players against the NFL for concussion related symptoms. DUMBDUMBDUMB. In other news, Sean Payton gets his appeal hearing today, lol. Somehow I doubt that Roger Goodell is going to reconsider his initial decision though, I have a feeling he is going to be in a pretty bad mood...just a hunch.

Honestly, The only thing I can see Goodell doing is allowing Payton to be with the team through the Draft (which is more about 2013 and beyond when he'd be with the team again). Also he will use this time to tell the suspended people what they can and can't do while suspended.

It seems like no one likes Stan Van Gundy. Even Jeff Van Gundy rips on him. Orlando needs to fire both Stan Van and Otis Smith after the season. Hire Patrick Ewing as head coach and hope for the best.

That Griffin dunk was an offensive foul. And Bynum just keeps showing what kind of asshole he is. I can't fucking stand him.

As far as SVG/Dwight goes... I like SVG as a coach and as a person, and I like Dwight as a player and as a person, but they were both in the wrong here. No one more than the other; it's just not a good fit with these two, and I'm sure this is their last year together. However, I will laugh my ass off if Orlando some how makes it deep in the playoffs. They are the kind of team that just needs to get hot at the right time to really make a noise, and I'm rooting for that to happen.

New thread series started to help determine the best player in the MLB currently. Go vote and comment to have your voice heard, dammit.

How about the best 3-4 combination going back to back and both having 2 HRs in the game. It's gonna be a fun year in Detroit. I'm gonna have to get out to a few games this season.

Detroit's murder of the Red Sox is pretty impressive. It doesn't look like the Red Sox are in for a fun year so far.

Indians are fucking killing me. Two brutal extra innings losses that are basically the bullpen's fault. Excellent stars by Masterson and Jimenez and an offense getting the job done in the first nine innings are encouraging me though. Once the bullpen figures its shit out things should get better.

I'd find it somewhat amusing that, if these scores hold up, Toronto, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay will all start out the season 2-0 while the Yankees and Red Sox would start out 0-2. Wonder how many times that's happened.

IDK, but I wouldn't mind seeing it happen more often.

Twins have been awful to start the season off, really hope they show up for the home opener Mon.
