Vinny Testaverde, man! He played longer in his life then Favre!

But yeah, you could field an All-Pro roster everywhere but the Qb.

Not always. Stacked up roster vs roster in 00, 02, and 01, The U of Miami teams could have taken the Browns or Bengals. The entire Offensive lines, skill players and front sevens are all starters in the NFL, some of them the best in the league at their positions, if not currently, then at some point in their NFL carreers.

Just because they were being paid like professionals doesn't mean they were playing on the same level as professionals. If you somehow had a game between the 2008 Detroit Lions and whatever the best college team is, I would bet money on the Lions every single time. Even the best college teams have players starting that would never make it in the NFL.

2008 isnt what I said though, was it?

And those Miami teams, in fact, had very, very few starters who didnt not only start in the NFL, but are all pros in the NFL.

I picked the 2008 Detroit Lions because they went 0-16 and are one of the worst teams of all time. I would still pick them over the best college teams.

Here is the Miami Hurricanes starters from their undefeated 2001 National Championship team. The bold names have been pro bowlers in the NFL and the italicized names are guys who played in the league for at least two seasons (there's only one guy who made the league that only lasted one season). That's 15 guys who were in the league at least two seasons, 6 of them have been pro bowlers, and 9 starters who never made the league.

With the age range of those players being 18-22 there is no way that team beats the worst NFL team from that season which was the 1-15 Carolina Panthers. Shit, Chris Weinke was the Panthers qb that year and the previous season when he was at FSU he threw for just under 500 yards on almost that exact same Miami defense and that was with college talent around him. In Carolina he had pro bowl receivers in Steve Smith and Mushin Muhhamad and a pro bowl tight end in Wesley Walls.

Poor Joe Flacco. He's going to find out why Favre retired finally:

*Note, not Favre's last play of his career obviously, but it's the best video I could find. I was at this game live and it was clear Mckinnie let the defender blow by him.*

That was Mickinnie blocking like shit when he was "only" 10-15 lbs over playing weight. He showed up at Minny's camp around 390 which would roughly be about 40-50 lbs over playing weight. And the Ravens think he's going to help their O-Line? Yikes.

I'm sure he's only going to move into the starting lineup once he gets in playing shape. If Ray Lewis can't motivate you to get in shape then no one can. His deal is based off mainly incentives so if he gets back to his 2009 form then it's a great signing, if not then they don't lose out on too much money. He's also reunited with Matt Birk.

And don't forget he'll probably play right tackle since Oher is in Baltimore as the left tackle. I doubt they move the younger guy with a ton of talent and potential for McKinnie.

Don't be too sure on that one. Oher is more of a natural at right tackle. It's a low risk high reward situation for sure, but Mckinnie is not in football for the love of the game, he's in it for the love of the money. He's been around 9 years and rather than develop into a locker room leader he's a cancer who's been overrated for a number of years now. I just don't see it working out.

I'm pretty glad I dumped Manning. I think I was high during the draft or something, I took that motherfucker first round. Everyone knows you have to take a running back in the first round, even the second round. I'm prepared for Saturday and Wednesday though.

So... Jake Locker had one hell of a game tonight. I know it's just preseason, but it seems to me that he very well may have all the tools to be a successful quarterback in the NFL.

I still think Locker will be a bust. Of all the pre season games to play great in, the 4th game is the least impressive. Starters play one series, backups the rest of the half, and the second half is all guys who are likely getting cut.

Give him a year or two to learn under Hasselbecks wing. No need to rush him since that team is pretty much a sitting duck anyways.

Team captains for the Steel Curtain are Big Ben, James Farrior, and Arnaz Battle for special teams.

Good choices there.

I have an idea of a thread/discussion type thing, but I need some of your guys' help.

With baseball coming into it's stretch run I'd like to have a roundtable of sorts on a playoff preview. While I'd like to get a fan from each of the 8 teams that looks like they'll make it (Detroit, New York, Boston, Texas, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Arizona) I doubt that there's active fans on here of some of those teams and an 8 man discussion seems almost impossible. So maybe a 4 or 5 man table (including myself, although I'd be the moderator of the chat as well) to kinda give WZ a preview of the upcoming playoffs, since it's seems to be getting pushed away now that football is beginning. We could do it over msn and I'd try to make it a good time for everyone. I'd be happy with 4 or 5 of our most knowledgable baseball fans (or anyone with some decent knowledge for that matter) to help me give some attention it deserves.

So, in short, if you wanna help me in a playoff preview of sorts and have msn (and time) just go ahead and say yes here. Or if you have questions (since I didn't go into full detail here) you can ask them here or via PM.

Just thouht I'd get it out of the way now, since it probably wouldn't be going up until late September anyways.

Recently, in the past few years, there has been talk of NCAA FBS football conferences going to a 16 team format, creating super conferences.

Do any of you see this happening? I

If so, how does this affect BCS and bowl games, and scheduling?

What teams go where?

Do any new conferences emerge, or old ones fall? Which ones?

Damn the Tigers is rapin' everyone out here in teh AL Central. Thank god that division is so horrible.

And the 2nd week of my NCAA predictions thread is up. You people that missed your picks last week can still join, although you'll be a week behind.

Garrard was released by the Jags. This means Gabbert will take over sooner rather then later as Luke McCown is the current starter.

Garrard should find work fairly easily. Baltimore, Miami, and KC are in the market for a veteran back up and the the Redskins could really use a starter. I expect the Ravens to get him. They've already recently added veteran O linemen in Bryant McKinnie and Andre Gurode and a veteran back up is a huge need. Rookie Tyrod Tyler from Va Tech is their current back up. Garrard would fit in nicely there.

The 9ers and Seahawks would probably let him start right away (once he gets the system down) because he's a better option then what any of them having.

I had those two teams in my post about it in the sports section but sources around the league have said the Niners and Seahawks are going to stick with what they've got. We'll see how true that is in the next couple days.
