Apparently Manning is going to be out much longer then originally thought. As much as I don't like Manning as a Steeler fan, this fucking sucks...considering he's my starting QB in one of my fantasy leagues...one with a lot of fucking fantasy football sharks in it.

On the plus side, he's the QB of many people on the other 4 leagues. I actually had him in another league, but I actually traded him for Vick and MJD. Manning and Cedric Benson, and Brandon Jacobs, for Vick and MJD.

That is so funny...Manning is injured, Jacobs is on IR, and Benson is already having legal issues, he's out now but still...that trade is literally half of Manning, and Cedric Benson. I don't think you can rip anyone off better then that.

Peyton Manning is out for two to three months apparently. This is great news for anyone who isn't a Colts fan. The Colts are a five win team at best without Manning.

it's also bad news for anyone who is a fan of the NFL.

Peyton Manning being injured sucks for the NFL. His absence helps the AFC South have a better chance at making the playoffs, it's terrible for the LEague as a whole. Manning is the face of the league.

It also SUCKS for people who have him on one of their fantasy teams.

Although I thought he was only going to miss 3-5 games. I have Eli Manning as his backup, which is kinda ironic.

I hope Eli holds up...not like I'd be able to trade him or anything for a better QB. Like I said, I'm playing with a bunch of fantasy football sharks, and I get stuck with this shit.

Lol though, hopefully I can stay in. QBs usually aren't that important, and I have a solid team as far as the other positions go.

True. But I'd rather have the Colts fail and the NFL suffer a little then have the Colts do great and have the NFL be slightly more successful. It's not like I actually enjoyed watching him play to begin with. Manning being injured is good news for the Jags, so it's good news for me.

Hate to tell you though, but it doesn't help the Jags too much. Texans are winning that division this year, and if anything it helps them the most.

Although Colts may be able to get some revenge from this week one pounding, week 16 whenever Peyton is back...assuming fully that he'll be fine though.

A smile comes across my face though, knowing The Steelers take on the Colts week 3. When I first saw that when the schedules came out, I knew it was going to be a good game, now...not so much. Who knows though.

The Texans were supposed to win the division last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. There are only so many times someone can cry wolf before I stop believing it. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the team to win it, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I honestly don't see the point of Manning even playing this year. I'd put him on IR right now and get a roster spot and have him getting healthy for next season.

With a healthy Manning I'd agree but without Manning the Colts are awful and the Texans are clearly the best team. Their offense is already playoff ready and if their defense is even below average they'll make the playoffs. I'm certainly not trusting Luke McCown, Kerry Collins, or Matt Hasselbeck to lead their respective teams to the playoffs.

I'd put more money on Tennessee winning the division then Houston. Houston has been given about 284397652349875635 chances with this coach, and they are yet to do anything. Chris Johnson and Matt Hasselbeck (2nd best healthy QB in division behind Shaub).

Don't sleep on the Titans.

that's funny. How many TV ads has Tom Brady done?

How many times did Brady host SNL?

How many times did Brady do anything off the field aside from being caught by paparazzi? Oh yeah, never.

Peyton Manning is the face of the league, it's not close. That's not saying he's better then Brady, or anything. It's saying that more people know Peyton Manning then Tom Brady.

Wait, how in the hell are "the Colts = the NFL?" Even living a football wasteland (Arizona), I know that there are much, much more popular teams. America's Team (Cowboys)? Arguable the most successful team in the past decade (Patriots)? Fuck, as shitty as they have been for the last decade, the Raiders are still more popular than I would dare say half the league.

I do know that I am sad that Jeff Fisher ain't coaching the Titans anymore. He was so good looking and I am going to miss watching Titans games just to stare at him. :(

Did you watch Tennessee or Matt Hasselbeck last year? Hasselbeck had a fairly awful season outside of the one playoff game against the Saints. The Titans only won 6 games and had one of the worst defenses in the league. They also lost two of their best defensive players from last season in Stephen Tulloch and Jason Babin.

Last year they had Jeff Fisher as head coach and won 6 games. This year they have a new coaching staff and a team that probably got a little worse. Certainly not better. Chris Johnson is all they've got.

I think it changes every year tbh. Last year because of everything surrounding their win, Drew Breeze was the face of the NFL.

And fuck the Texans. I don't know how, but the Dolphins have NEVER beaten them. :glare:

Nike, UnderArmour, Sirius, Visa, Audi, and plenty of magazine ads. Brady is selective when it comes to his endorsements, but he's still very much recognized as the most popular player in the league.

How many times did Brady host SNL?

Once, the same amount of times as Peyton Manning.

How many times did Brady do anything off the field aside from being caught by paparazzi? Oh yeah, never.

What does this even mean? Clarify...

nope

This is how you are basing your argument? lol
Considering the whole basis for being the face of the league is not how well exclusively how well you play on the field, but how well known you are in conjunction with that, I'd say that Peyton Manning is about ten thousand times more known then everyone in the league aside from Tom Brady, whom he is only 5000 times more known.

We're not talking about football fans here, we're talking about common folk.

So the offense sucked aside from CJ, right? Well, Kerry Collins and Vince Young were the QBs. They both sucked.

I'd say Aaron Rodgers is easily the current face of the league.
I'd say you're fucking crazy. Rodgers is the current flash in the pan, like Brees was last year (I'm not knocking either one, they both top-5 in the league at their position). He's the Ultimate Warrior. Peyton Manning is Hulk Hogan. He's a bigger star then every player in the league, maybe even combined. If Rodgers can keep this momentum, become a household name (which he isn't even close to, and since he prefers anonymity, that'll never happen), he'll never be the face of the league. Brees has a chance to get to that level.

They also both had better years then Hasselbeck did. This isn't the Matt Hasselbeck from 4 years ago. He is a almost 36 year old shell of his former self. The Titans got worse on defense and Hasselbeck isn't exactly an upgrade on offense based off his last 3 seasons.

The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league. Lately Aaron Rodgers has won a Super Bowl and is playing like the best qb in the league. Manning has been non existent since the end of last year with his injury and that will continue until he comes back.

I agree that the Texans have the best team. But how many times have we said that or something very similar and they've failed to deliver? I'm just a little cautious to crown them right now, especially with Arian Foster's hamstring right now.

Also, this new kick off rule is pissing me the hell off.

We both know I <3 you, but this is just stupid. The great thing about the NFL is that is just as localized as college sports. Sure, people know who Manning is. How could they not considering the sports media pushes him as some mecca. I guarantee ya that most people who are in an area with a team that has hometown support (i.e. places not Arizona or Jacksonville lol), don't give a rat's ass about Manning.

Besides, I thought you were talking about actual popularity.. Why the shift to notability? And where did you get that number from.. Er.. Don't want to know tbh

We're not talking about football fans here, we're talking about common folk.

I constantly bring up the casual fan when making wrestling debates. I do; However, considering the ratings the NFL pulls in even on a weekly basis, it is kinda cooky to think there are many 'casual' NFL fans.

.

I wouldn't say that Hasselbeck is any better than those two. I also wouldn't trust Johnson this year, at least early. He's been with the team just over a week. We saw the same thing last year with Revis and he suffered hamstring injuries the first few weeks of the season. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the same thing happened to Johnson.

But every other time people said that about the Texans (I've never said it as I've never picked them to make the playoffs until today) they had Manning and the Colts in their way. Now they virtually nothing in their way.
