My uncle, Eric Lewis, is a NBA referee so sometimes when we go to the games and he's there we get to go in the family room where the players family meet them after the game. The night the Suns played Nash came into the room and I got to meet my favorite non-Hawks NBA player got him to sign the ticket and the program.

That was easily the best game of the playoffs so far. Great, great game.

I also loved the fact that Derek Fisher single handily cost the Lakers a chance to win, too. I can't stand that fuck... so I'm always happy to see him play horribly.

Moreover, major props to Peja Stojakovic. Been a huge fan of his for over 10 years now, so I was very pleased to see him play so well tonight in the 4th Quarter.

Lastly, Dirk = Unstoppable. I've watched him since the beginning of his career and he's easily playing the best basketball he's ever played. If he continues this type of play to a championship win... it will go down as one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history by a player.

He missed the perfect game by one strike, but he was phenominal throughout. 2nd of his career, and the only guys that I think have 2 that are active are Buehrle and Halladay (although they each have a perfect game). According to the K Zone (Which I know isn't the be all end all, but is pretty accurate) it showed he was a few inches off. It was a great AB by Arenciba, and it did seem slightly outside. I thought it was the right call.

At least he got a no hitter, as well. Galaragga just got a nice 1 hitter...

The Blue Jays would have. As would Major League Baseball, since it would have been such a bad call, they might look into said umpire. I would all but guarantee that if they called it a strike, Arencibia (the batter) would have been loudly against it, and I would bet he or the manager would be ejected.

At the end of the day there's no justification for a terrible call, even for the sake of preserving history.

Umps are always going to give leeway to a pitcher who has a history of pounding the strike zone. Verlander has done it for a few years, but nowhere close to the consistency of Maddux. Sure, it isn't right for them to do it for Maddux, but it happens more often than not. Verlander got a bad deal. Next time he is in position for a perfect game, I bet the ump will call it a strike.
