The People's Peep's Sigs and Such

After seeing all of the greatness in sigmaking done by numerous people on these forums, I was inspired to try my hand at graphics. I dont have photoshop so i have to use Gimp. I didnt do just wrestling, as I also did some sports graphics and even pokemon. Here they are in chronological order...

nrjev.jpg

This one was just a little goof. i dont know why i chose to make a pokemon one, but it came out pretty good. i had to go with the green background for bulbasaur and i chose red for the text because of his eyes.

2lm329x.jpg

i had just finished watching raw and orton was awesome so i was inspired to make an orton one. Yellow and black in the background just sounded like a good idea and it sort of went pretty well with orton. i think that all of the pictures fit great together. the text isnt too good but i really dont have too much to choose from.

kdlclh.jpg

im a die-hard yankee fan and i wanted to make one celebrating their world series win. the cut was a little sloppy, but i think that this one is my favorite. (has a white border)

z0c4n.jpg

this is my favorite background i made. its orange to go with his new merch but i couldnt find a centerpiece with the new shirt as good as the one with the attitude adjustment shirt. the style is basically the same as the orton one.

11j5d8g.jpg

i made this one earlier today because i was bored. i didnt know what to do it on, then on sportscenter they mentioned tebow, so i figured "hey, ill do a tebow one". orange and green for the gator colors and the gator in the background. if you dont know who tim tebow is, not only does he play football, but he is also a devout christian and a humanitarian, hence the Saint Tim Tebow text.

If you like what you see and you want a sig like the ones I made here, click on my sig below and make a request in my request thread.

all forms of feedback accepted

Wow, you've only been making sigs for a week? You could have fooled me. These are really good, especially for a beginner.

You have the basics of style down pat. Your sigs have borders, the text and images are all placed well, and colors all work together. One complaint I have is on your Bulbasaur one, the red stroke on the text doesn't really work. I believe a dark green would have been much better.

Other than that, I see some great things for you in your future if you stick to it and keep trying. You're off to a great start! :)

i agree with you on the bulbasaur one. when i made it, i had no idea what color to make the text. i was afraid to make it green because i thought it would be too hard to see, so i went with the color of his eyes.

i got two new ones...

wwawwn.jpg

I whipped this one up as part of the GIMP tutorial. Even though i wasnt really trying, i thought this one came out really well. I had to cut the picture of him with the belt and it came out pretty clean. i accidentally put the white border behind the images though. oh well...

euebk1.jpg

I just did this one using the website that Dave posted on Stinger's thread. It made it a lot easier to make. I also used the advice that he gave on the motion blur and tried that out.

Personally, and this might sound egotistical, I find that the latest one you have done to be your best. Not because you listened to some advice that I gave but because it is probably the most balanced sig you have designed. The motion blur looks really good in the background and you have clearly taken on board what I said about dead space. The Bryan one is a great achievement of just how much you can fit on one sig. There is so much on there that I had to right click on it to make sure it was within sig regulations. That being said, it is a really good sig.

It is not often you can get 4 images onto the one signature but you have managed it and done it well. I know you haven't done that many sigs but you are doing really well. I would urge you to go to Doc's tutorial and learn how to smudge for backgrounds. Personally, I think that is all you need to improve on because the quality is there for all to see.

Nice work.

Its not egotistical at all. This might sound egotistical, but after I made the DB sig, I just stared at it and soaked in the greatness. I said to myself "Thats amazing". The motion blur did wonders for it and gave it almost a 3D feel. I also smudged the text a little to keep the 3D feel going. I think it's by far my best work. As for Doc's tutorial, I'll check it out, but I use Gimp. I'll see if i can transfer the lesson over and maybe I'll add it to the Gimp Guide Thread.

xelf9c.jpg

I made this one earlier today. I really experimented with some of the filters on the background, and i love the way it came out. As for the sig as a whole, i think it came out ok. I tried putting a glow on the images and it wasnt bad so i kept it. I was really debating whether or not to have the image all the way to the left. At first, it was just the two on the right, then the text a little higher up. I thought it would allow for more appreciation of the background, but as you can see, i added the third image and lowered the text. When i added the border, it made it 801 pixels :banghead:

qrapth.jpg

Here is one trying the smudging. I did it on two of my favorite shows, Scrubs, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I also made it smaller since i didn't have too much to put in it. After making this, I will definitely consider making more smaller sigs. There is just something about them and i dont know what it is.

2ut53bo.jpg

heres one that i was using to experiment. I feel like my backgrounds are good and overall its pretty good, but i think i need to start doing some things with the images. so i chose to make one with the miz and played around with the image. Here, i duplicated the layer and tried different combinations of layer modes to see which looked the coolest. I could use some ideas on what to do with the image.

Pretty cool. I like the colors and the experimentation. A few things, though:

1. The little white things are a little too busy. I think you should fade/lower the opacity of the black speckles. It would keep the texture but make it a more subtle effect.

2. I think Miz should be moved up a little. Right now he doesn't quite look like the main subject of the sig.

3. What did you save it as? A PNG, jpg, or what? The stroke around the text looks a little off, in terms of quality.

Not a bad sig at all though, and I like that you're experimenting. Keep it up! :)

1. I see what you mean. The black speckles would be better off as a minor effect on the white and the background as a whole. It is kind of overpowering.

2. I had him higher up at first, then i lowered him to make his face more of the center with the white bands circling around it.

3. Its a JPG.

is the effect i did on the Miz ok though? I felt like just having the regular image looked odd. I wanted to make him more connected with the background, if that makes sense.

OH yeah, that's fine. Very nice, actually. I often do the same thing in order to blend images with the backgrounds. I add a color overlay or gradient map in order to make things have the same tint. MAtching colors of backgrounds and subjects is important when making a sig.

vh92dg.jpg

So here is my first new one in a while. First, i started off with my usual background stuff. Random brushes mixed together and see what happens. I kept it black and white at first. Then I used Dave's tutorial in the photoshop thread. I used it for the red around the main image. But then when i did it with the blue, it made the red look like purple. So instead, i created a new layer, and simply painted some blue around the red, then changed the mode to soft light. I think this is easily one of my best ones yet.

Great job on that one! The colors fit Swagger, and it's pretty well done. Suggestions I would make would be to put the text on one line and shrink it to fit along the bottom, and maybe take out some of the brushing on the second (background) picture of Swagger, as his face looks funny in a bad way. All messed up.

Other than that, nice one! :)

Two more for today.

fmmi35.jpg

For those who dont know hockey, this is Martin Brodeur, the greatest goalie in history. I really like what i did with the pic on the right. I duplicated it twice and smudged it. Then i changed the modes of each of them and the perfect combination of modes gave me that effect. The other image was tough. I had to cut it out and it wasnt the best cut. It isnt even that good of a picture, but its the best i could do.

nv49w0.jpg

I had to make one for one of my favorite wrestlers, the rock. I did the usual smudging of the pic on the left and changed the mode of only the copy on top. Pretty basic sig.

Two more for all to see...

21crrsy.jpg

This one was really easy. It took me like 20 minutes. Started with a yellow background, then some green brushstrokes and a little red brushstrokes. Put Kofi in, blurred his edges and multiplied it to give him a shadow. Finally I put in the logo and it was done.

2mqoop3.jpg

As a long islander, I like Zach Ryder and I DO know it. I tried something a little different with this one. Instead of smudging the edges of the image itself, I put the image on the background and smudged it with the background. Also, instead of the "woo woo woo you know it" text, I was going to use "ong sland" to add to the L and I of his fingers. But that leaves too much dead space on the sides and having both sets of text makes it too crowded.

Hope you all like them!

Time to post some more work. Here are a few I did over the last week or so.

10dbmt3.jpg

My second Christian one. I think its better than my first one. I like what I did with the logo. It actually is diagonal, but I rotated it and used it as my text.

34spija.jpg

This is my second Jericho one. Also think this one is better than my first one. For the background, I used some brushes, but then I pixelized it, then sharpened it twice. Came out pretty good. I made the image with the pose slightly blue to fit with the background and I still dont know if I shouldve done it with the other image as well.

2mc7q4z.jpg

This one is similar to the Jericho one. I colorfied the images to make them fit with the background, but unlike the Jericho one, I did it to both images. I used his logo as the text. But it was orange and I made it black and white because it looked better. To top it all off, I tried a little double border. Overall, I really like the way that this one turned out.

eqv3b6.jpg

I put my last one is spoiler tags because I felt that this one is special. I feel I need to keep the element of surprise with this one. When you see it you might laugh. I didnt know what to make a sig of. Then I found this render and had to use it. I played around with some filters and I got that shadow effect. The text is pretty bad, but I think the rest of the sig makes up for it. If you have seen the movie, or even the show, you know what I mean with the text.

Once again, all feedback is accpeted. Thanks for checking out my work.

rc4npv.jpg

These two were part of requests, but I like them so much I figured I'd add them in here. The Rock one was tough. I didnt make that lightning effect. Thats a picture of his DVD cover, I think. I just cropped it a little, put a few brush strokes and called it a day. As for the Miz one, I just put a shadow behind the main image. Then I found a picture of him on the mic and put it as part of the background. I found the logo and thought it would look good so I rotated it and put it over his shoulder.

23i9ll4.jpg

This one, and the following ones, were made using a new technique I learned from a tutorial. In fact, in the next few days, I'm going to put up a tutorial on how I did it. It mainly involves putting copies of the render in the background then blurring it. This helps keep the background color similar to the render color. I first tried the technique with this render of Alex Riley. Was the only image I could find of him. So I put the NXT logo in there to take up some space.

291kj5x.jpg

This was basically the same as the Riley one, but I used to images in the background and used the same effect that I used on the NXT logo. To do this, I set the layer to overlay and duplicated it a few times. This is one of my favorites that I have made.

etxopx.jpg

Yes, its another Yankee sig. This was the only Yankee render I could find so I used it. Once again, same as the last two but I tried something different this time. I put an image of the famous Yankee Stadium facade in the background by merging the layers of the background into one layer then lowering the opacity of the background layer to expose the facade.

10zzax5.jpg

This is probably my favorite sig I've made. I needed a sig to use for the World cup and I made one. I had to cut out a pic of Clint Dempsey. Then I put a blue outline around him and set it to overlay. Added the flag in the background, some patriotic font, and a gradient in the other font. I really like the way that it came out.

I guess I will do them separately.

This is really odd. I like it a lot but there is little things that I would change, if it were me that was making it. It is a really curious looking sig and I really like the way it came out. I have no idea how you have managed to it... Unless you are putting it on a motion blur and pumping it all the up before pulling the opacity down. Either way, man, that looks like a fucking sick signature. If it was me, I would take away the halo from behind Riley and have put a black stroke around the NXT logo.

Just personal taste though.

The same is true of this signature. The background adds a lot to it and the renders are really nice. I feel like there is a little too much contrast on the back two renders but it seems to work enough. If you are happy with it, then I am happy with it. I see you have added two borders to it too. I like working with two borders a lot lately. Nice touch!

This one is definitely my favourite of all the ones you have uploaded recently. You are using GIMP, is that right? If it is, then this is especially good considering that I couldn't even use the fucking thing. This is a really nice sig though. The stadium in the background adds a new dimension to this one that the other ones don't really have. You should be proud of this one. The halo around the render seems to work this time. Definitely the best one, for me.

I very much like this one too.

You may or may not know that I am a huge football/soccer fan and this is pretty accurate at meeting the credentials of being aesthetically appealing and a football signature. I like the gradient over the text and you have really done well at making that background work for you. I am interested to see how you did it.

All in all, nice work!

I agree 100% with the halo behind him. I duplicated the layer and used a zoom motion blur on it. At first it looked cool, but as I kept looking at it, it got really weird. Especially around his ear. Makes him look like an elf. I mainly did it because I feel like I needed to do something to the render, but I didnt know what to do.

Yes I am using GIMP. But I'm thinking of getting Photoshop. I got the idea of the stadium in the background from a sig that Theo made for Stormtrooper. I too like the way that it came out and the end result helped me realize how nice it is to have an image in the background.

That's good to know that it's a good football sig. I plan on sporting it for the World Cup.

Thanks for all the feedback. I plan on using it next time I make a sig. I'll definitely reconsider using the halo effect sometimes and working color contrasting more often.

My first new one in a while. I figured I have to get some practice in before Wingman starts. I found this nice render of DiBiase and just messed around with it. First I started with a yellow and black gradient in the background. Then I smudged the render out a bit to get that effect behind him. Next, I used the same technique that I've been using and set the motion blur straight up. I set the layer to "Grain Merge" and it gave me a nice orange background. To finish things up, I did some white abstact brushstrokes and set it to overlay, then some yellow fractal brush strokes and set it to screen, and concluded with text and border.

All in all, I really like this one. I think it is one of the best ones I've made so far. Everything just seemed to work for me. What do you think?

EDIT: I forgot one step. After the abstract and fractal brushstrokes. I did a gradient map. To do this, I copied everything visible into one layer, then pasted it over the other layers. Then I did a yellow and orange gradient map to the pasted layer. I set the layer to overlay and lowered the opacity. This is the first time I have used a gradient map.

Its been a while since I uploaded some work to here. But here are two new ones that I think came out pretty good.

96xhqs.jpg

I started with a radial yellow to black gradient in the background. Duplicated the render and smudged one to give the bloomy look behind him. Then I think I colorfied the smudge. I did some brushstrokes around the smudge with fractal and abstract brushes and set them to overlay. To finish it off, I did a gradient map of yellow and black. The render is originally black and white, but the gradient map gave it a nice yellow tint.

2qld6ow.jpg

First thing I did was take a sample of the color of his trunks. You cant see them here, but their blue. I did a radial gradient of blue in the center out to black and put a light spot on the background, behind the render. This is something I have never used before. To continue with the "trying new things" theme, I did some smudging, but not with a smudge brush or the vine brush. I used a stars brush and it worked very well. I set the smudged layer to dodge and duplicated it a few times. Then I did another new thing. I added a C4D in the background. I set the C4D to overlay and then used a stars brush for some reason. But it looked good, so I kept it. To finish, I did a blue and white gradient map and added my text and borders.

As always, feedback is always accepted and appreciated. Thanks for checking out my stuff.

I havent put anything in here in a while, so I figured it was about time.

qzrfaa.jpg

I started by selecting the color of his shirt and filling the background with it. I duplicated the render and smudged to create the white area behind him. For the background, I placed copies of the render all over, blurred it, and set it to overlay. To finish, I put some lighting on the render, did a gradient map, then did the border and text. Simple sig, good outcome.

zwc2zc.jpg

So I got Photoshop and this was the first sig I made with it. Not bad, eh? For the background, I did some brushstrokes with grunge and abstract brushes. Then I did the render over the background thing like in the House sig. I then did a ripple filter on the whole background. I also duplicated the render and smudged it a bit, creating the little light part behind the render. Then I added some gradient maps, text, and borders and I was done. Personally, I love the way this one came out and now I see why Photoshop is so good.

30t4d2x.jpg

This is another photoshop one, but it pretty much sucks. I started watching Ring of Honor recently and Colt Cabana has quickly become a favorite of mine. I found a good render of him and did the same as the previous two sigs. But this time, I did a liquify filter on the background. everything else was the same as the Shelley one, but I didnt use any brushes. And this one came out a lot worse. I'll probably re-do it somewhere down the line.

mjlkhv.jpg

Then theres this one. I wanted to learn something new for Photoshop and I found this tutorial: http://www.allsigs.com/tutorials/unleashed/unleashed.jpg It requires a lot of smudging, including two layers of some really spattered smudging. Then I added two gradient maps and a warming photo filter. The text is a little sketchy but I still think it looks really good.

As always, all feedback is mucho apreciated. Thanks.

EDIT:
vxj8ub.jpg

This is another version of the Shelley one. I gave it more color by reducing the opacity on the black/white gradient map.

Now, some more sports sigs...

2u5rt5l.jpg

This is Mark Sanchez, the quarterback for the New York Jets. One of the things I love about Photoshop is the quick selection tool. In GIMP, you have to trace the thing you want to cut out. PS is so much easier. I cut out this picture of Sanchez, then used the same tutorial I used for my Swagger one. But this time, I didnt smudge so much the first time. I also did some lighting effects and put the Jets logo and his name.

9rsgmo.jpg

I cut out this image of Mark Teixeira, the first basemen for the New York Yankees. The cutting of the bat is a little bad, but whatever. Right away, I knew what I wanted to do with his sig. I some smudging behind Tex, hence the white around him. Then I used a white grunge brush on the navy blue background to create the background. I also added a picture of Yankee Stadium to background. After two gradient maps, I added the text, then gave it a motion blur to make it seem like he was hitting the text.

As always, I love to hear what anyone thinks about my sigs. Thanks for checking them out.

In the words of Boston, "its been such a long time". With school starting up again, I haven't had time to do much in the way of gfx, or anything else on these forums. But I found some time to revive my sig making with the help of new tutorials.

1jnpea.jpg

I used a tutorial that I found on a sports website. I started by taking a picture of Mr. Parise and displacing the background with another sig I made. Then I took a stock image of steel and gave it a color overlay to give the background some texture. I also used a sky stock to create some more texture. I used some splatter brushes above the render and created a clipping mask with the image. Finally, some text with a clipping mask of the logo and a few gradient maps.

24zc1w9.jpg

This one was pretty much the same as the Parise one, with a city and concrete stock instead. But I also put a duplicate of the render as part of the background. Also, I used a mosaic filter to make those subtle boxes you see.

2pzme4x.jpg

This one is probably one of my favorite ones I have made. This one also uses stock images. This time I used a city stock and a weird fur like stock that gave me the lines. I was trying to make it look like the colors of the render were running off of him, and thats the smudging you see on his shoulder. I also used a clipping mask on the text, but with another image of Revis. Some gradient maps to finish things off.

Feels good to be making sigs again. As always, I love some feedback, so feel free. Thanks.
