The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

We’re at the start of the new taping cycle this week, meaning it’s time to get ready for the build to the next Takeover special. Sami Zayn made his big return last week to go after NXT Champion Kevin Owens, which almost has to be the next big main event. Other than that, most of the card is pretty clear at this point. Let’s get to it.

That Old Feeling

Fuck me, one of the kids in my class just now was doing the Tyler Breeze hair adjustment thing using their iPhone camera, without any irony. Absolute gold.

It serves to show that even NXTs most ridiculous character is relatable to the real world.

I'm too much of a mark to be allowed in that Full Sail arena. I'd be thrown out within five minutes after taking a swing at one of those nerds chanting for Owens.

The rivalry between Owens and Zayn is tangible, it's palpable, it's fantastic. I love how they can't be trusted to be in the same ring together - which is hardly unique in wrestling but seems so much more believable here.

My favorite part of last night's show: we have a title rematch set up logically and organically without the term "contractually obligated rematch" being used.

I'm honestly surprised Owens was manipulated so easily - it seemed a bit out of character.

Enzo and Cass need a new finish - that assisted splash looks terrible. My suggestion: a regular splash.

I don't mean the paint one, I mean the normal one, it still takes ages and is used to establish his intensity.

This brings me onto another point, I'm really enjoying NXT, but so many of them are going to be immediately kneecapped by the WWE creative who loves to overcomplicate things. The NXT guys get over because they are allowed to be believable characters. E.g. Owens is a heel, but he repeatedly says he's doing it for his kids.

Exhibit A - Neville is going to be made into a moveset, just like Evan Bourne. Couple of tag team titles perhap in his future, but he'll probably go nowhere else, because what made him relatable is being eroded away.

His NXT announcement was this:- "Making his way to the ring, from Newcastle, England - Adrian Neville!" sounds like a human being I can relate to.

In WWE it's this:- "Making his way to the ring, the man that gravity forgot - Neville" which sounds faceless.

Likewise.

So the Pittsburgh live show must have sold out in about 9 seconds. Kicking myself for not knowing about the presale. Secondary market is looking like at least $150 for standing room only tickets so I duno about that.

If ever there's a UK show and you geeks don't let me know about it well in advance, people will get hurt.

Will we be getting monthly shows after Unstoppable? It seems about five years since the last live show.

Oh, great. This is just wonderful. This is just brilliant, this is. I watched a video featuring The Boss that made me tear up a bit and now I can't ever take her seriously as a heel ever again:

Fucking hell.

I've only got two episodes to catch up. I will have then watched 6 months of NXT in three weeks whilst still maintaining a social life, proud.

My question is, who becomes the new CJ Parker. I.e. The reliable jobber. Given time, my money is on Solomon Crowe - he has too much wrong with him to make it beyond NXT. Unless they bring Marcus Louis back.

Breeze is a good shout.

I picked Crowe because his orange skin, bladed forehead and Road Warrior tribute act voice aren't likely to cut it on Raw, so he's probably never leaving NXT.

I just read a comment on R/SquaredCircle that mentioned a rumour that Sami Zayn will debut on Raw tonight and challenge John Cena for the United States Championship, so I'm sure that's happening.

Oh you motherfuckers. I was gonna nap through Raw tonight but now... I swear to God if he's a no show I'm fucking... going to get angry on the internet.
