The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

Crowe uses a submission finisher in his other taped matches. Probably the stretch muffler.

I know he's used two version of the stretch muffler in the indies, the standard classic version & then a cloverleaf version.

I kind of wish he'd start using the Forearm 2 Remember, though I could see them saying it looks too much like BNB's finisher & saying no to that (even though BNB's is an elbow to a standing opponent & Crowe's is a running forearm to the head of a seated opponent).

It's particularly galling because the new Daniel Bryan t-shirt just became available and I'll get a discount if I buy both at once.

Things are starting to pick up again in NXT as commentator Alex Riley is coming after NXT Champion Kevin Owens for bullying him on commentary recently. First up for Riley is CJ Parker, as Alex has to earn a shot at the champ. Other than that we’re waiting on the return of Sami Zayn and the Finn Balor showdown with Owens for the title. In other words, no one likes Owens except the audience. Let’s get to it.

There's Always Next Week

So with NXT only being roughly fifty minutes I assume they can't show all of the Arnold Classic matches, which is truly a shame considering the likes of Itami/Kidd, Cesaro/Balor, and Neville/Balor happened on that tour.

We're already getting Banks/Bliss and Owens/Riley so I hope we the third match is at least Itami/Balor vs the Vaudevillains as I heard that was pretty good.

A big thank you to NorCal for pointing out that Murphy and Blake are essentially a Ring of Honor tag team. Can you do a running suplex? Can you hit a frog splash? Can you do some wicked cool rolls? Alright, man, just do a whole bunch of that then.

Enzo Amore has never looked more ridiculous; like a wizard sex offender. As a competitor, however, he's starting to look legitimate - even if the vast majority of his moveset is having Cass pick him up and use him as a weapon. Anybody who's heard Enzo on the mike knows he's the real deal - it's time he was made to look halfway competent in the ring. Who are we kidding? He's good enough that all he needs is the Ali shuffle and a schoolboy.

Fan tryouts? The only thing NXT is missing is an unlikeable, unathletic, uncharismatic Englishman. I'm in.

Alex Riley gives good promo. Maybe a little tryhard and I don't think reminding anybody of that cringeworthy #FreeRiley Twitter campaign is going to win him any new fans but it made sense. He really shouldn't wear those phoenix trunks. And he's a vascular chap, isn't he? Owens is right about that horrid tattoo and Owens knows a thing or two about horrid tattoos. Did Riley really start crying? Wow. I guess he really does care.

CJ Parker still deserves better. Seeing as he's NXT's jobber du jour, other people probably see that.

They do have William Regal as an authority figure though, so you'd only be filling the need for an uncharismatic superstar, and they've already hired Itami.

I don't think Itami is necessarily uncharismatic, but just....y'know, doesn't speak English. Bit of a hindrance on connecting with the crowd, as it turns out.

I really wish I could find that one joke someone had about finding a way around Itami's language barrier, it actually wasn't a bad idea at all.

Its insane man, back in the day they used to do this thing were a guy who was good on the mic would talk FOR people who couldn't talk that well. It was NUTS.

Think it was something like...

Man o war.

Wait no.

Ma...ca..roni?

No.

MANAGER!!! Yea thats it!

That said, Itami's "I only know seven English phrases and they're all about how I'm going to kick your ass" bit is actually quite endearing.

Edited but here it is, he should say that at least once.

Well hopefully they catch on before it's too late. I miss the era of managers.

Guys, Alex Riley genuinely started crying in the middle of the ring.

I was impressed with Riley on this week's show. Aside from the in-ring rust, I thought the backstage segment was great and the feelings bit post-match added a nice touch to the gimmick he's playing.

I thought Steen/Riley was going to be a throwaway feud until Steen/Balor happened, but I'm actually interested.

Er.. Owens not Steen, damn you WWE.

I think Itami's been fine for the most part. He's improved a lot in terms of 'working the WWE style' and his English certainly isn't anywhere near as bad as say someone like the original Sin Cara who was the laziest fuck in terms of improving himself.

Itami has won me round - I nominated him for worst wrestler of the year last year (because he was seriously dreadful) but he's improved leaps and bounds since.

Interesting direction with Enzo and Cass. I dig it.

When the fuck did Alexa aquire that DONK ?? Jesus. A welcome addition. I thought for 2 seconds they were gonna let her do the 450.

In a company which has Kevin Owens, is Samoa Joe surplus to requirements? I ask because the rumours of Joe to NXT - or, more realistically, the fantasy booking - don't seem to be stopping.

I'm genuinely unsure but I know I would kill for a match between the two.

Itami could really benefit from a manager. He wouldn't even have to say anything. Sort of like Jet Li from that Unleashed movie. Pair someone who can kill it on the mic lead Itami to the ring and direct him to kick his opponents face in. Then a few years down the road when Itami has better speaking ability have him just turn on his manager in a fit of rage and be "unleashed".
