The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

Speaking of Graves on commentary...

After KO got a two count off that standing senton on Neville, there was a comment that really made me laugh. Graves said he couldn't believe Neville kicked out, because that was "300 and some pounds" that landed on top of him.

Really? I mean Jesus, how big does Graves think Kevin is?

It's called selling the move, my friend... something which the RAW announce team fails to do (among many things). It's quite bad when Corey Greaves is only two shows into his commentating gig and he's already doing much better than many.

So apparently Sami Zayn's storyline injury is a bit serious

Zayn, the new NXT Champion, was diagnosed with cervical & thoracic muscle strains, and he was held overnight for observation at Winter Park Memorial Hospital in Florida. Zayn is now resting and will start physical therapy before returning to action in an estimated 3-4 weeks

Shut up. Shut up. He's fine.

One imagines the Raw announce team has exponentially more people yelling at them through their headsets, a list of guidelines as long as your arm and about seventy hours of content to talk over each week. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that they're comparatively terrible. And terrible in a vacuum.

Back in the 1980s, Fritz Von Erich had a great insight about Christmas: Once you open the presents, what else is there to do? Well apparently we can watch NXT, which is on a roll as of late. The main story coming out of last week was Kevin Owens destroying Adrian Neville just like he did to Sami Zayn the week before. Let’s get to it.

Review is up.

We’re starting a new year here and Sami Zayn is still on the shelf due to his attack at the hands of Kevin Owens. Last week was the Best of 2014 special with the only plot advancement being Charlotte defeating Sasha Banks in an R-Evolution rematch. I’m sure there will be other rematches in the future so let’s get to it.

Fuck Carmella.

Bull Dempsey will lose any sense of importance once Corbin destroys him.

Good to see more out of Itami, he will surely hit the GTS on the next special to a thunderous reaction. Balor is the more complete package but Hideo will prove the naysayers wrong in time. Hopefully this is the Ascension swan song.

Seriously though, fuck Carmella.

  • A YouTube search of Blue Pants' theme unfortunately does not return what one would want (i.e. Big Cass' rendition of the Price is Right theme).
  • CJ Parker is probably the king of the "You know, he's actually right" heels and one can't help but sympathise with him, particularly after being fed to Baron Corbin and his not-in-the-least-embarrassing star tattoo/chinstrap combo for the umpteenth time.
  • I want to live in a house in suburban Canada with Sami Zayn. We can watch The Simpsons. I'll be the big spoon.
  • Finn Balor's leap out of the ring onto the apron genuinely drew a gasp from me.
  • Kudos to Hideo Itami for continuing to lay his kicks in - and also doing things that aren't kicks!

One of the many things I like about this show is they set up something for next week almost every time. In this case, we have three things, ranging from Itami vs. Curtis Axel to the Vaudevillains getting their rematch from R-Evolution to the return of Sami Zayn for the first time since he was laid out by Owens. That sounds like a stacked show so let’s get to it.

I Want To Be A Sami Zaniac

Were the FUCK is Sam and his evaluation of Chad Gable's "Kurt Angle memorial" singlet? Goodness that thing was sharp.

I am buying up 75% of the Chad Gable stock now. Very competent match for a guy who only started training a year ago.

basic but still very solid episode.

Agreed. Gable looks solid so far.

IDK what the hell the Lucha Dragons are gonna call that tag move they used to finish the Vaudevillains, but that certainly was nice.

I could have sworn he broke Aiden's neck coming down on that awkward ending, but they need to use that more.

Now we wait for that one team of those similar looking guys whose names escape me to step up and challenge the Dragons.

Sorry, I watched the show yesterday. I deleted my impressions after it turned into a prolonged rant about how stupid Baron Corbin looks. It turns out even a great Sami Zayn promo can't distract from that.

Good catch.

"Chad Gable"? It even sounds a bit like "Kurt Angle"! Lad should've used the entire five count though - letting go at three is for suckers.

Tye Dillinger & Jason Jordon?

I think thats who he' talking about their well built lads and look the part of a formidable tag team. However they've been booked as a weak team so its going to take a decent amount of time to build them up as a credible threat.

Vaudevillains will get another shot before them, who you can put the belts on for as long as you like because they arent getting over with the casual fan on the main roster

No, now that I looked into it I believe their names are Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake. Tye and Jason are for some reasons always touted as inexperienced rookies on the brink of breaking up despite never having a backstage segment besides that awful one from months ago.

According to the NXT Live events there's another tag team we've yet to see that's part of a stable Chad Gable is in, maybe they'll step up.

The American Olympic wrestler has a tag team in his stable?....

Red, white & blue deja vu.

You knew damn well their names were Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake. They always have good matches with the Lucha Dragons but is it not a bit played out by now? Why not one of the other tag teams, like... Oh, fuck.

Why the hell can't Enzo and Cass be built to have a shot, instead of being relegated to supporting vehicles for Carmella?

EDIT: nightmare beat me to it.

Apparently there's like four or more of them. Shoot Nation is their name.

I'd remember them more if they didn't show up every four weeks to lose to the Lucha Dragons.

Also Enzo and Cass can get a title shot when they get rid of fucking Carmella.

I'd have had The Vaudevillains win the belts - this week no less - and then had an Enzo/Cass feud waiting for them. We all know The Lucha Dragons are just a vehicle for Kalisto (nonsense wins for Sin Cara over Wade Barrett notwithstanding), can we just stop pretending? As it is, the Luchas versus the Certified Gs just doesn't gel.

The Mechanics, Scott Dawson's team, haven't been seen in a while. In fact, they've only made one appearance if I'm remembering correctly. They'd be an interesting foil.

If it means we can get Kalisto/Neville, Kalisto/Sami, Kalisto/Axel, and Kalisto/Owens matches then I'm all in for this idea.

But the outside possibility of Lucha Dragons versus Balor/Itami also makes blood rush to my man regions(but I'd more than "settle" for Kalisto/Balor and Kalisto/Itami one-on-ones too).

I think the reason we haven't seen the Mechanics is because one of them got hurt like a year ago, they just did nothing with the other while his partner was out.
