The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

Sami has been with the main roster a lot lately. Likely because they're doing events in Saudi Arabia and he speaks Arabic, but still...

We’re getting closer to the next live special which has been announced for the end of May. That makes me think we’re going to get done with Brodus challenging Adrian for the title soon as he feels like little more than a placeholder challenger. Other than that it’s hard to see what’s coming as NXT jumps around a lot. We should be getting Sami vs. Graves soon though. Let’s get to it.

Random thoughts:

-I was slightly how surprised at how dead the crowd was for Kidd/Ryan, but if I have my dates right, this was the last show taped that night.

-Kidd still can't cut a promo and his awful voice doesn't help matters.

-WHY WOULD YOU HAVE PAIGE TAKE THE FALL

-Either Neville has fake teeth or they are super dedicated to this angle. I'm going with the former.

-Someone needs to tell Tensai he's just supposed to say O, not SO

-When was the last time, other than Arrival, that an Ascension match went longer than 3 minutes? Was it the Wolves?

I think you answered your own question good sir. This was taped well in advance and so this was before Paige even won the Diva's title. Thus why the entrance was cut as well.

It was still dumb to have her lose (I hate that WWE thinks the only way to earn a title match is by pinning the champion) but that explains her entrance being cut. I'm kind of disappointed in myself for not realizing that last night.

I'm just getting round to watching this week's episode and will be using the tried--

the tried--

the tried and tested--

--type as you watch method.

Sorry, my stream keeps having to buffer. Virgin Media, ladies and gentlemen.

The 'new' opening still fills me with bliss every time I see it.

Rusev's theme is nearly on par in terms of sheer awesomeness. "Travis Tyler"? Never heard of him. I can only imagine this will go well for him. "She was speaking Russian, he's Bulgarian." I know, Alex Riley - it doesn't make any fucking sense, does it? Rusev is a beast and all the doubters can choke on his thick, tanned cock. Lana makes a fucking Rocky IV reference! They need to have Rusev absolutely destroy someone and follow it with him going, "If he dies... he dies."

To my shame, I'd be the one guy in the crowd chanting "Kru-ger!" at Adam Rose. I'd gain fifty pounds and grow a neckbeard especially. I miss that gimmick so much. A rose bud? Never!

Things Charlotte is greener than:
  • Money
  • Grass
  • Emma's outfit

But she can do a cartwheel and she's Ric Flair's daughter so she's already better than most of the women WWE have.

Someone at work used the term "raven-haired" today. I asked, "Is that an old English thing? There's a, uh, guy from Blackpool I know who says that."

Mason Ryan and Tyson Kidd are also here. Kidd's promo afterwards is pure fucking nonsense. "NXT is the platform for the ultimate opportunity"? There's two people in wrestling who can get away with jibberish like that - one's Bray Wyatt; the other one died the other week.

Corey Graves and Paige both have theme songs that sound like a homeless Trent Reznor put them together. Is that a new style? The Ascension are about to have a match that lasts longer than two minutes and I'm confident that they'll promptly be proving everyone that doubted them, everyone who baffling said they were without talent, profoundly wrong. Yah indeed. The NXT tag team champions versus the WWE tag team champions, and the best wrestler in he world is also there. Oh, NXT, you're too good to me.

Never headbutt a Samoan. Not even with another Samoan.

That Blue Thunderbomb! That Blue Thunderbomb.

Any good show ends in Sami Zayn doing the weirdest fucking dance you've ever seen.

If WWE are really going to push this InZayn thing - and I'd really rather they used a play on 'Sam' but here we are - then I'd suggest changing his theme:

Or, alternatively:

Ah, it's not that bad, it just doesn't start with "Who you trying to get crazy with, ése? Don't you know I'm loco?"

Adam Rose's new theme isn't that bad either - I'm just surprised if WWE still doesn't have to pay royalties, considering it's a blatant rip-off of his previous theme.

NXT's best theme is - you guessed it - Tyler Breeze. If we're not counting Rusev, which we're not.

Baron Corbin has a biker gimmick with Raquel Diaz as his manager:

I'm a fan, Corbins got a good look, hasn't had totally shit matches and he's a big guy. Diaz is pretty great on the mic too. One of them pairings that will work. Mojo Rawley could use one of these interventions, and not a totally shit name.

I thought Chuck Palumbo was the shit when that was a thing.

Corbin's great and not in his mid 30's like Palumbo was.

IDK much about Corbin, but what I'll say is, the motorbike gimmick isn't easy because there's so few places it can go. "I drive motorbikes, I'm a biker, here's my broad", which is why Chuck failed. And people might not remember but Palumbo was once a pretty well liked guy from a fans perspective, hell he and Billy had some great tag matches on Smackdown back in the day. If can make a run of it, more power to him, but like Rusev and the powerful foreigner gimmick they're trying for the 10,000th time, it takes something special to get gimmicks like these off the ground.

I just posted non-spam about this, but we've had some cuts:

According to PWInsider.com, WWE has released Mason Ryan, Raquel Diaz, Danny Burch and Oliver Grey.

Mason Ryan was part of the WWE main roster from 2011-2012, notably part of CM Punk's New Nexus stable. Ryan had been showcased on NXT TV throughout the last year.

Raquel Diaz, whose real name is Shaul Guerrero, was showcased on the FCW TV program prior to WWE switching over to Full Sail University from 2011-2012, notably winning the FCW Women's Title and being part of the original incarnation of the Ascension. Diaz had taken leave late last year for a medical issue, but had returned to NXT late last year, although she was never shown on the WWE NXT TV program in her second run. Diaz is the daughter of Vickie and the late Eddie Guerrero.

Oliver Grey had just returned from a major knee injury that kept him out of action for over 8 months. Grey had been featured prior to his injury as one-half of the British Ambition tag-team with current NXT Champion Adrian Neville, notably winning the tournament to crown the first-ever NXT Tag Team Champions in early 2013.

Danny Burch was signed in 2011, but was mostly used as an enhancement talent on the WWE NXT TV program.

For what it's worth, I thought Mason Ryan was better than Rob Terry, so he can at least claim to be the best Welsh wrestler in the world today.

Then again, that's not saying much.

I'm almost disappointed by Oliver Grey's departure. He was trying out a new James Bond gimmick that had potential.

If you think this is going to stop Raquel Diaz from getting released I'M AFRAID I'VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS!

Ryan made legitimate improvement! This actually upsets me.

Danny Burch and Oliver Grey debuted a tag team at live events for a little while called England Fighting where Grey was this upper middle class guy and Burch was the roughest cunt about the place and it was great!

Raquel diaz had great mic skills and her release is genuinely confusing since as I've already pointed out, she seemingly had a gimmick with Baron Corbin.

We’ve got a big show to build towards now, meaning things should start coming together in the near future. On top of that we’ve got a challenge from Adam Rose to face Camacho at some point in the future, which isn’t a terrible idea for an opponent for Rose, especially when he’ll be in WWE very soon. Let’s get to it.

We’re getting closer to Takeover and the big story is the lack of a challenger for NXT Champion Adrian Neville. After dispatching Brodus Clay last week, Adrian needs someone new to fight and odds are we’ll find out who that is tonight. The Women’s Title tournament will also continue tonight and since this is NXT, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Let’s get to it.

We’re two weeks away from Takeover and the main story coming into tonight is finding a challenger for Adrian Neville’s NXT Title. Last week, Tyson Kidd, Tyler Breeze and Sami Zayn tied in a battle royal, setting up a triple threat for the show this week. My guess is the two losers will face off at Takedown as well. Let’s get to it.
