It does have a certain punkishness to it that suits Zayn - or at least Zayn's taste in music. This is the man that got so over that people sang along to the Bouncing fucking Souls though, so I'm not worried.

They seem to be pushing the already known fact that she's Flair's daughter very hard, seemingly why they mixed his theme into hers. Same happened on a much lesser scale with Curtis Axel.

I dont really watch NXT as in Australia its on at like 2:30 in the afternoon, however I did manage to watch Takeover and the question I have to ask is: Why is everyone given slight gimmick changes? Specifically the Ascencion, the last time I watched they came out with long fur cloaks with lights basically out and I thought "this is pretty sweet" and I would imagine them being bought up by taker as part of like a new ministry or something. But now they look like BDSM enthusiasts or some shit.

They're an LOD/Demolition esque theme where their name seems to imply something mystic/dark but rather they're just there to wreck shit.

Its not that I disagree with tweaks overall just who it was that was tweaked. The Ascension were amazing, 90% of wrestling at the highest level is about telling a story not just wrecking people the occult mystique has more legs on the main roster than whatever you want to call what they currently are.

Yes but their being occult is very similar to that of another group on the main roster. Plus the Ascension never really went anywhere with the "We will rise" stuff( Seriously they had a vignette where the said they hated smiles, one where Viktor was holding a cool glowing blue book and another where they said they were the gatekeepers of the tag team division which is still intrinsic in their current characters). Wrecking people as a team works, Ascension aren't even face or heel anymore, they are a duo exact, they have no preconceptions.

Funny thing is Curtis used that on the main roster, like the 2 times he wrestled on it, and NXT pre-reform too.

So people seemed to be split on the new Zayn theme, what's the general consensus here?

I like Sami's new theme, but I worry that it's too bouncy and happy, kind of like Yoshi Tatsu's theme. Althogh Shawn Michaels had just about the least intimidating entrance theme ever and it worked out ok for him.

We’re starting a new cycle tonight after Takeover blew the doors off the place last week. There aren’t a ton of stories coming out of the show but the main thing was Tyson Kidd refusing to shake Adrian Neville’s hand after his loss in the NXT Title match. Kidd as a heel is an interesting idea and might lead to either a rematch with Neville or a match with Sami Zayn. Let’s get to it.

God, I love NXT. I almost don't want Sami to leave. Much as I want to see him blow everyone's minds, I like having him as my little secret - like a great band that none of your mates know about. Moreover, I like him being featured prominently on a tight one hour show rather than as a bit player on a bloated three hour show. Think of my poor thumb, having to fast forward through all that.

Mojo's finisher - as an extension of his now infamous 'arse-based offense' - is seriously bad, the people are right. Can't say I'm thrilled about Aiden English, my favourite former jobber and the man whom they wouldn't let Colin Cassady get a win over, getting pinned by it.

Seeing The Ascension posing with the Special Olympics team does go some way towards eroding their mystique. One can imagine Bayley being in the team though (and, despite implying that she's developmentally challenged, I mean that as a good thing - she's adorable). Charlotte has come along so much since her debut, it's astonishing. Sasha Banks is, to steal a phrase from Infinite Jest, the P.G.O.A.T. You've obviously all read Infinite Jest, right?

Is there some backstory behind Jason Jordan and Ty Dillinger? These can't be the guys being groomed to best The Ascension. Doesn't appear that the rest of the NXT universe has really taken to them either. It's actually a bit irritating that so much of the show was taken up by four randomers. Jason Jordan just straight stole the Angle Slam.

It's still upsetting how Tyler Breeze's theme was murdered and presumably left in some sort of theme music ditch, they don't have to rub it in my face.

This Bo Dallas video package is my new favourite thing.

"Knock off" is my least favourite phrase in the world and it's all Michael Cole's fault. If you knock someone off, I'm imagining you wanking them off, not defeating them. Fact.

Other than that last week was pretty much just a placeholder show until we get to the next big show around here. Even last week’s relatively meaningless show was fine though and that’s a nice thing to say about a promotion. Let’s get to it.

You know all those squealing fangirls do when Cena whips his t-shirt off? That's me when Paige whips hers off. Sasha Banks rarely wears a t-shirt, meaning I'm screaming all the time.

Who is Mr. NXT? I suppose it will forever remain a mystery.

Sami Zayn versus Mr. NXT? I think I just legitimately swooned. Oof. The guy in the RVD shirt dancing like a motherfucker during Sami's entrance got me.

Oh my God, Bo Dallas getting dragged out of NXT again has to be the funniest thing I've seen in wrestling for a long time. "This is illegal! He touched my bum!"

Great main event. Neville/Kidd was good, the sequel was great.

Maybe the best episode of a wrestling show this year. Simply magical.

NXT has been better than Raw and Smackdown consistently since the launch of the Network. The talent is hungry and you can tell.

I also really like Renee Young on commentary. She should be rotated into some Raw and Smackdown episodes occasionally.
